Says 'blues 4 flag'.
Don't see how Carlton are related to the thread. Show me one post where I say we will be premiers. Of course I want us to be premiers, however I accept that we're a few years off. The same can't be said about Demon fans and Mclean though - he might be very good but some of you would have us think he's right up there with Judd and Brown as the best in the AFL.

You talk too much.

I know. Who wouldn't pick the guy who carved up St Kilda in the finals this year???

I didn't say I don't rate him.

But given the choice, I'd take Dal Santo any day of the week.

I pick McLean just to piss off JeffDunne
Why would I care?

In fact I get a little worried when I agree with the outcome of a BF poll.

McLean easily, he can't be tagged out of a game for a start.

Secondly, he's way harder at the ball and the man, he get's more possessions, more tackles and only marginally less goals than Dal Santo and when you need someone to step up Brock does it so I'd give him the win in teh leadership stakes as well.

Dal's awesome though when he has a good midfield around him taking the pressure off, and he can use his awesome skills to good effect.

Brock is three or four years years younger and performed better over 2006 than Dal Santo did so for me it's quite easily Brock McLean.

Mind you, if I had a good midfield team that were capable of getting their own ball and EVERY other consideration was taken care of EXCEPT having a classy winger then I'd take Dal because he's deadly by foot when he isnt' under pressure.

If Melbourne supporters weren't so blatantly one-eyed about McLean, the poll results could be different.

Dal for that position?

If anyone, Wells.

But yes, you'd take Brock because he doesnt rely on anyone.

Depends what you want in a midfielder.

Dal Santo is deadly by foot, very clean hands and very good awareness. Can hit a forward on the chest 50 meters away. A downhill skier but a very good one. Isn't that good close in, not great awareness close in. Tackle doesn't hurt the opposition.

McLean does the other stuff, tackling, pressure on the ball carrier, clearances,
but isn't as good kick and isn't as good a handballer (IMO). A burrower but a very good one. Not that fast, not as good in awareness of play further ahead as Dal Santo, but good awareness close in, like in the ability to handball off to free up a player.

I'd have both at Richmond in a heartbeat. If I had to decide, I'd choose McLean only because he is younger and Richmond needs tough inside players. But Dal Santo would work wonders as well. Richo would get decent delivery for once. With Dal Santo, our forwards would be served the footy on a silver platter.
