Okay so 3 weeks for an incidental trip, how many did Duncan get for this? I must have missed it, 4 or 5? Oh you mean he got nothing, not even a fine? Okay carry on...

Just another example of how pathetic the AFL is, they do not punish people for doing the wrong thing they just throw weeks out if someone gets hurt. I am not even so much worried about the loss of Howe, just angry over how BS the decision is.

If your boy broke my boys leg in that way ...

If this continues, do you think the lawyers can sue BigFooty for defamation?
It’s getting pretty close!

Do you know any of the lawyers, mate? They’re some of the best in town: it’s pretty difficult to run a case when the Tribunal has already decided the result.

One should only plead guilty if you know the resultant penalty WILL BE significantly lesser than a finding of guilt while arguing the alternative. Or if you have the conscience of a saint.
Was a dumb move by the legal team, and Hawthorn management signed off on the dumb strategy.
Really poor defense mounted to an act that was clearly arguable in act and intent.
Sue away.

If your boy broke my boys leg in that way ...

Rubbish.
It wasn't a swinging kick at another players leg.
Nothing vicious in it at all, and if you're the lunatic parent that can't tell the difference and charges the field cause his kid got hurt in a contact sport.......
We all know how those acts of stupidity end.

Well bugger me....
Scapegoat.
Anti Hawthorn for a finals berth.
Christian is a w***er
Why didn’t we take the Cats lawyer in??? Obviously we are paying overs elsewhere in the football department & are content with a rookie upgrade during the week to find a person to represent the club.

*Shakes head changing threads & refuses to read on as the whole incident & actions reek of manipulationfrom the AFL*

Cousins to come in & tag

Not sure you know how the legal profession works.
In fact, I’m sure you don’t!

I’m just sad for Howe, he’s established himself in the team by hard work, performs a valuable role, is looking at the possibility of the finals, and has this thrown at him for a couple of small incidents that just went wrong.

I hope he’s okay.

Still defending Carey......

I have no words.. I just face plant with your responses.

Howes suspension was a joke, he deserved 3 at a max however his punch was completely idiotic. The tripping suspension a joke

Outrage OUTRAGE!!!.... Come on... watch All of the footage.

Howe threw out a swinging leg which hit Fishers leg and BROKE it. Fact!... I saw deluded partisan people saying Howes leg was stationary. It was Not !

Come on guys, he threw a leg out and tripped a player with chalk bones. That is what happened. I concur with people thinking the impact seemed less than hard but he was dumb to throw the leg out.
The most important thing is that Dan Howe is getting a lesson. If he is told he did nothing wrong, he will learn nothing!

3 weeks is right.

And the punch: as a previous poster wrote: dumb dumb dumb

5 week: = Worpel stays in the team and a chance for Cousins to again show his talent as a blocker for the team.
All good as far as I am concerned.

I couldn't disagree with your assessment of the 'incident' any more.

Howe's tripping suspension is patently absurd.

In no way, shape or form was that a trip. Howe's own leg is rotated sideways by the impact of the player colliding with him. You can't trip using an action caused by a collision.

It was rightly adjudicated play-on.

The whole club has a right to be disappointed here. He was wrong footed, and charged with tripping a player who was also about to fall.

Maddnness.

Club should appeal, but won't. At least Howe will be fresh for finals.

AFL squaring up for Burton incident.

And what exactly would our strategy be in an appeal? Do you think we could invoke the Donald Trump defence..... "I misspoke... I meant to say guilty NOT....”

The defence strategy was absolutely farcical. He’s been charged on two elements
(1) that the act was careless; and
(2) impact severe.

How, in anyone’s sane mind, you would go in there and plead guilty to (1) and then try and argue (2) when the guy has a broken leg is beyond me.

“Okay boys this is the plan.... you’ve been charged with a careless trip that broke a blokes leg. The trip is clearly accidental which is how we’ll get off. But lets not argue that.... we’ll go in there and plead guilty to the trip but argue the impact, despite breaking leg, was not severe”..... “how does that sound? We all okay with that”? ..... “yep”..... “okay let’s do it”

Hahaha..... sad but true. Completely beyond understanding.

With dumb rule changes to appease the soft over protective parents whose poor lil cotton ball kids can't get a kick in footy.

Got to feel for the young man. Probably deserved a week or two for the chin tap but the trip looked accidental to me. How he comes out at the other end will be a true test of his character. Show us Dan!

Here's also hoping Zac Fisher has a full recovery and comes back fighting fit and in great form next season.

Hahaha..... sad but true. Completely beyond understanding.

Reflecting on this, we (the supporters) are all sitting back all saying "it was accidental ... it was accidental" ... outraged that he didn't contest this element. Nearly every poster is on here saying it was an accident/incidental etc etc. But the bloke (Howe) who actually executed the action has plead guilty to it not being an accident. He went in there and just put his hand up and admitted it was careless. Is there anything to this? Maybe Howe is conceding that he instinctively swung/put out his leg and it was not a tue "accident" but in fact careless?

In which case, I can't see how the tribunal could have come to any other conclusion. A careless action (which you've admitted to) that results in someone's leg being broken.... hard for any tribunal to say "nothing to see here young chap...".

2nd that. I still can't see a trip. I see a guy planting his leg to stand and another guy swinging into it. I think I need to watch it another few hundred times to make sure I don't have the worlds most extreme case of confirmation bias. I just can't see a trip in it anywhere. Am I missing something, other than Hocking?

You're dealing with an expert here.
Twenty-two years of being screwed over by a corrupt “sporting” body ever since we voted no to the Demons’ takeover bid. Twenty-two years of fighting with one hand tied behind our backs. Twenty-two ****ing years of the same old crap.

I’ve had a gutful of this crap. At some point one just has to cut their losses and walk away.

“But if you walk away, the terrorists win.” Well, I've got news for you: they way they've been allowed to completely **** up the game, they’ve already won.

Yeah 22 years and 4 Premierships. Oh and 2 Brownlows and 4 Norm Smiths and 2? Colemans.

You see this is what makes Hawthorn the greatest team of all (no apology to Geelong for pinching their theme song)

We always do it the hard way and bullshite like this only make us harder and stronger. Unlike other clubs who always chase the easy way which always ends in failure. What do you think our players, coach and match committee are thinking? May I suggest that they are thinking "we will show the bastards" and they will all unite behind Howe. It's all about Esprit De Corps and this is how it is built. The VFL, AFL and all other clubs will never understand how Hawthorn have been so successful. The harder they hit us the harder we fight back.

To all those who say they are no longer going to watch the game remember you are Hawthorn and Hawthorn don't give up.

I think I will change my signature to

Hawthorn! Giving the finger to the bastards since 1957

Anyone care to follow me

Or in other words ….

I’m charged with murder.

Yes your Honour, I shot the bugger through the heart. Guilty as charged.

His Honour – You’ve admitted guilt. Convicted. Sentenced to death.

Whoa, Your Honour! Hang on a minute. I thought I’d just get 20 hours of community work!
In that case I appeal. I’m innocent. Didn’t touch the bugger.

So it's about billable hours instead, right?:p

I watched the replay to make sure of my facts. When the tripping occurred, it was so innocuous that it went totally unnoticed by the commentators, even after they saw a replay. No Carlton player came in to remonstrate, it just seemed like one of those things that happens in a game of footy. It was only after Fisher was found to have been injured that it became an issue.

I guess this is the problem I have with it. If we want to penalise tripping, why wait for an injury before we do anything about it?

Seems you're the one with all the outrage.

How many weeks did the guy who stuck out his leg and hit rioli in the knee ending his career get?

In addition to that (and without seeing the tribunal transcript), it didn't appear as if there was any request for a discount on sentence based on an early guilty plea.

So why even plead guilty in the first place?

Just a complete debacle.
