What I dont get is why people are already concerned and expecting him to sign? There is no way he will sign this year so no point in worrying about it. Do many players sign with 18 months remaining on their contracts?

I disagree, clubs like Bulldogs Saints Essendon Melbourne Carlton either aren't keen or can't afford him

Geelong and Collingwood are shaping as the big players

Pretty sure Hawthorn would be quite keen. In fact, I think if Dangerfield gave any of the teams mentioned an indication that he wanted to go there, they'd find a way to make it happen.

Wouldn't Danger be a restricted free agent at that time?
Geelong or Adelaide is what's gonna happen. No way he's gonna dog us and go somewhere else

Doesn't quite work like that mate, no club has ever matched an offer before and for a reason. If a player decides to leave the club will let him go.

Heard the expression, first time for everything?

Being a free agent I don't see how choosing 1 victoria club over another is dogging the Crows?

He means that leaving to return "home" is one thing, but just leaving because you get a big money offer elsewhere is a step too far.

In any event, I have no doubt Collingwood would be going hard as can be at Danger, and as of yet he hasn't said either way whether he'll stay. This is a given - any club with pockets deep enough will be throwing whatever they can at Danger until he either accepts the money or turns them down. At the moment the signs appear to be that he is likely to stay but you can't rely on that.

no club has ever matched an offer before and for a reason.

Because none of the restricted free agents thus far were one of the top three midfielders in the AFL, absolutely crucial to their club's success and on the right side of 25 years old?

Yeah that's true, I'm not saying he will come to Collingwood or even leave the crows, I just have heard from several people we are going hard after Danger and then it was confirmed by someone I know at the club.

It'll keep the media busy at least

I remember going through the media circus with Cloke.. wasn't fun
You are very generous to come on to our board to share this inside knowledge, just curious why you haven't shared this info on your own board? You've posted on their thread and not once have you mentioned that you've confirmed it with someone at the club. If anything you've just regurgitated on here what you've read.

So please shut the **** up and stop talking shit on our board.

If he decides to leave, the Crows won't force him to stay. I can guarantee you that much.
I think you would have your work cut out to keep your stars Pendles, Beams etc. How do you suggest you are going to afford Danger?

I thought the story was that we had committed, in principle, to taking him, but then changed our mind when Carey became available.

Ayres didn't even have the decency to do that, stabby.

His dad told me face to face that Pav approached Adelaide at the end of 2002 and almost begged to be traded home to Adelaide, he was that home-sick. in his wisdom, Ayres said that we're knee deep in the Carey thing and we'll get back to you once we finish that deal. Pav never heard another word from Adelaide - nothing. Our lack of common decency was something that offended the Pavlich family greatly.

Brilliantly done Gary Ayres, you buffoon.

At the end of 2004, Pav was within the arse hair of a gnat of becoming a Port Adelaide player, a deal which fell through at the last moment (because of his WA girl-friend I think). Once he made that decision to stay his roots went down in Perth and he was never really going to ever come home from that point on.

One can only speculate what Adelaide might have achieved with Pav up forward rather than Perrie, Gill etc

IMO the decision to ignore Pavlich at the end of 2002 vies with the Tippett affair for the title of the Greatest Adelaide Football Club Fk-up ever. :(

Now you've made me cry.

But we can't blame solely Ayres. Where the **** was the rest of our management team when this decision was made and lack of follow up? I blame Trigg.

Unfortunately we didn't have as complete a structure re list management at that time. The coach had the biggest say.

Traditionally coaches have proven to be one of the worst judges of who to draft and recruit.

That's why in virtually all clubs these days the list management team is all powerful. The coach will state what kind of player he needs for his team and the list management team do the rest. I dare to say if that same thing occurred now, Noble would have swallowed Pav up in a heart-beat

Just on Danger, and only based on gut feel, IMO he's going nowhere. All his comments and the very nature of the man are those of a very loyal guy who is very happy in his current environment. I genuinely believe he will stay given the right offer.

We have to get him signed up before the start of next season though. History says that a high percentage of non-signers at that stage are going.

Appoint him captain at the end of the season (he deserves it) and sign him up on a 5 year contract for big money - no fkg around.

Oh, and no illegal side contracts :)

I still blame Trigg

Oh dear God, the talk of Perrie and Gill as our forwards when we could have had Pav.

That is heartbreaking. Pav in our team would have won us at least one flag in the 00s.

Blame Ayres, whose only interest was that of benefiting him by seeking immediate short term glory.

WTF recruits a 31 year old at the time, dont forget we gave up on Wells in that deal as well. I was supportive of us getting Carey but in fairness I was naieve, the Club should have know better than me.
