Like Marc Murphy, if Adelaide the only choice, any future offspring of Mardi Inc. would refuse the F&S and go in the draft.
I disagree ....think the Dangerfields would be more than happy for their son to come to Adelaide ......for 8 years

So her career is not as important as his because it's not as glorified nor paid as well? He kicks a bit of pig skin around a paddock. Let's call a spade a spade.

I'm not lecturing, or at least I'm not intending to, apologies if that's how it's being taken. What I was hoping to do was perhaps paint a different picture for those that haven't considered the other side. At the end of the day, we are all in the same boat - shitty that he's left us for the other wo....club. I wonder how many are shitty with patty in this thread and then salivating at the prospects of taking Aish and Redden from Brisbane in the other? Also, not quite sure how you compare me to danger?

Seriously, she would have to work for 40 years for what he can earn in four!

He is the prime income earner. She is there to support him given his career has a limited life. She doesn't get the right in this instance to call the shots. End of story.

Yes it is the 21st century but some rules still apply and will continue to apply.

Well I have heard on the grapevine GWS have already told Dangerfields management they will pick him up in the PSD draft. The list of clubs that will run a snatch and grab campaign on Dangerfield if he enters the draft is growing all the time. Geelong best be coming to the party I think!

Go to Sydney or stay in a big country town like Adelaide.

What would Mardi say?

I think we can come out of this stronger onfield.

Danger is a great player, I wont slander his onfield ability. But he has his faults and is not really top tier elite when compared to the best in the game. He aint no Fyfe or Pendlebury. If the sum total of his trade is that we can get two (or more) quality players to replace him we win.

I look to what WCE did with the Judd trade and feel we can emulate that.
I hope you are right but I doubt it. Dsngerfield is once in a decade midfielder, the best we have had since Roo and Goody.

If we do get 2 picks for PD, would recruiting Aish and Menzel more than make up for the loss?

Correct Mardi's career is less important than Patricks at this stage. This is defined/confirmed/accepted
by him being paid more.
No one chooses to have a career in the hope of not being paid. People in rural China don't leave there families to go to the city to not be paid.
It is always about the money and when it is so heavily weighted in one persons direction Re: pay, well that is more important. Once financial freedom has been reached, it does not mean so much.

So it's ok to leave a club for money, but it's not ok to leave a club to be closer to family or to go home?
exactly. At least with money you can match....but family....sheesh!!

Seriously though he can choose whatever reason. The moment he does not want to be a part of what we are doing....the right thing is to move on. We just want something decent for him in return is all!!

You obviously missed the extra year of security. That was reportedly the main issue, Betts wanted a 4 year deal, we gave him that and also overpaid. Search the history, I disagreed with the overpayment against the general vibe. But the extra cash is by the by, it as the extra year he was after.

I don't really care for Danger's motivations, whatever it is these days. I've posted once only, today, comparing my forebears own experience with elite sport and living away from home. It's the first time I've thought of it. But overall, yeh, money I understand, going home is something I realised I struggled a bit more with, especially when taking into account the strong bonds forged within team sport systems.

Mmmm....that assumes Geelong have a player the Crows don't want that other clubs do ...or we have to get a pick, but why do we need to get a pick for Geelong?
Check out my play station trade ;)

For a bunch of blokes that play a tough sport like AFL football, I have never seen a bigger bunch of pussies when it comes to professional sportsmen.

Hopesickness is a load of bullshit. Players need to have more control of where they want to play? Sure but you have to earn that right. It also means that you cannot refuse a trade. In the NBA the club can trade you where ever the **** they want and you can't do a thing about it. What it would mean is that Adelaide could have, if they wanted to, trade Dangerfield to Melbourne last year for picks 2 and 3 and there is not a damn thing he could do about it other than whinge. As things stand Adelaide had no leg to stand on.

Also if you are a restricted free agent and the team matches, you are staying there, no questions about it. If you really want to go, it's time for a sign and trade deal or you can sign for one year qualifying offer, play it out and then piss off somewhere else.

The whole AFL's version of free agency is laughable on so many levels but it's driven by a bunch of pussies crying like a babby about wanting to have the right to chose where you play.

Rubbish. I have on a few occasions in my life chosen a position that has paid much less - but is more rewarding / in a place I would rather be. (for me that is usually further from family - not closer!)

I can earn 10X what my wife earns ... but have made decisions that have meant my income has dropped a lot - but my wife's opportunity to do what she loves has increased.

It isn't always about anything. To each their own.

Why anyone on the AFC board would care how a guy that has chosen to leave our club - made the decision to leave ... I do not know.

All we should care about is what we end up with at the end of the trade period.

At least be honest .....the whole homesickness thing has become a cliche and somewhat embarassing to what is supposedly a professional sport

We'd be laughed at overseas
