Re: Menzel's Knee

Josh Hunt came back from acl....

It is possible... obviously everyone is different.....

Best of luck to you Denz... you will be back...

Go Catters...

Re: Menzel's Knee

I really like this kid, would be so sad if he has done an acl/plc.

The boy love the game & the way he plays shows it.

Re: Menzel's Knee

ACL recoveries generally take a full 12 months if they do the traditional operation.. He should be right by 12 months and back to 100%. I don't know about the chances of redoing it being any greater. As you can see they're pretty easy to do if you twist a certain way.

There's been several multiple knee reco's, Rehn, Primus, Wilson, Bond, Francou off the top of my head. It seems there are no set in stone rules, you just have to work your arse off to make the leg as strong as possible.

Best of luck to the lad, it's never good for any athlete to suffer such a bad injury.

Re: Menzel's Knee

Knew from the start when I saw it. Looked absolutely horrible especially in the slow-mo with the knee twisting out and distorting. Really feel for the teenager, especially so close to October and his Birthday.

He overtook Bartel as my favourite Geelong player this year and it's sad to see him end up like that. Hope he and Buddy end up right and firing for 2012.

Great win by your boys. Once again showed the footy world how its done. Too old, Too slow, Too good.

Re: Menzel's Knee

so that now makes it Mitch Brown, Nathan Vardy and Daniel Menzel added to the list. We got those 3 boys up and running next season and the future is pretty damn bright:thumbsu:

Re: Menzel's Knee

It is really terrible news. On the back of the best game of his short career... I just hope he doesn't do a Prismall and come back half the player he was.

Re: Menzel's Knee

After they sung the song Ling went up to him and you can clearly see Menz saying posterior cruciate. So hopefully that will be the case. Bad luck for the young bloke.

I was trying to do some serious lip reading as well

I hope your right.

Gooooood please be right

Re: Menzel's Knee

PCLs usually happen when the bottom bone (fibula?) is forced backwards - it didn't look like that.

I think ACL is more likely.

Generally the players who have had recurring injuries are those that have done it in more innocuous circumstances (suggesting genetic factors).

Menzel's was more impact and twist, so I don't think he would be particularly susceptable to doing it again...

Didn't look good on replay....so innocuous, lets just hope it isn't as bad as it seems.

Worst case scenario....he takes the time out to rehabilitate properly.

Re: Menzel's Knee

Always tragic when one of the future elite of the comp goes down in such a horrible way. I was there for the Prismall knee a few years ago...both terrible.

I really hope Menzel gets back, because we need kids like him playing, and not in the rehab group.

Re: Menzel's Knee

Great win by the boys tonight but this injury to Menzel has really tempered celebrations. He looked set to light it up for the finals and will be sorely missed.

Re: Menzel's Knee

Just hope like hell it's only a PCL. Even if it is an ACL and they go with the traditional surgery, he could get back next year. It's generally 6-12 months, a lot of guys who have done them in the past have gotten back well short of 12 months after.

Re: Menzel's Knee

Terrible, terrible news. :(:thumbsd:

No way would they go with the Lars treatment for someone as young as he is as there are serious questions over how long this sort of treatment lasts (before more problems occur).

Re: Menzel's Knee

So shattered for Menzel, what a talent he is and he made a real impact early and I'm sure would have done so in the rest of the finals.

Really sad to think that we basically won't see him again until 2013, the good news is he's shown he's got a real long term future here and I have no doubt will come back and play very well again, the challenge will be getting him through the rehab period mentally, but we have a great leadership group who I am sure will support him and ensure he's still included and not feeling isolated.

Get well soon Menz :(:(

Re: Menzel's Knee

One thing this Menzel incident clearly highlights to me, is our lack of a qualtity replacement medium type forward.

Just wish we had another around the 190cm size like Johno, we either go bigger or smaller, the combo looked just right before Menzel went down.
He just gave that ability to do the job either on the ground or by taking a mark.

Could Duncan play higher when Joel Corey comes in, or is there any other option available I haven't thought of?

Re: Menzel's Knee

best of luck with menzels knee. modern practices suggest we'll see him back to his best in 2013.

obviously buddys injury is gonna get all the coverage this week, but anyone who enjoys the game for what it is will be thinking of this kid in hoops, who is proving this cats side isnt done with yet.

Re: Menzel's Knee

It's just terrible seeing a kid with so much potential go down like this - such an unlucky injury. Hopefully he can recover well and get back to the star that he's destined to be:thumbsu:
