Dees v Bombers 2011

Although my opinion may be somewhat skewed by the club I support, I really don't see any way that Melbourne couldn't finish higher than Essendon next season, unless something largely unexpected occurs.

I've got Melbourne making the 8 next year, and I really can't see Essendon doing the same.

Melbourne have a ridiculously good draw: Only three away interstate games (one home interstate game on a neutral ground); they play GC, West Coast and Richmond all twice each; the only two finals sides from 2010 that they play twice are the two lowest placed ones (Carlton and Hawthorn)...

And people talk about Collingwood being favoured?

I think its fair to say if this question was asked last year Essendon would have come out on top, fast forward a year and it's Melbourne, who knows what could happen next year?

Stupid poll and I honestly don't understand why people bother making them, it's destined to just turn into a shitfight between the clubs supporters.

Melbourne are Top 8 chances, while I feel as if Essendon will be struglling to get out of the bottom 4. They are both young lists so anything can be expected. At this early stage I would lean towards Melbourne though.

Not really. From memory we finished 6 points clear of Essendon last year. Anything could happen depending on injuries. For example, if Jamar went down in round 1, we would struggle enormously.

Hird is another unknown.

yes how stupid of us to discuss our football clubs on a football discussion forum

what would you like to talk about?

That's what individual clubs boards are for, or didn't you realise they existed?

You know exactly what I ment so stop playing dumb, no need to start a poll comparing two of the youngest lists in the comp. Both have different strengths and weaknesses and both are exremely incosistent, trying to predict who'll finish higher the next year is guess work.

Ofcourse there's no use in me to telling you this because you already know all that don't you, so why did you start this poll? Didn't get enough kicks on your own board?

If you don't approve of the topic that is put forward, then donot enter the thread. Simple!

He's comparing two opposing clubs. What would be the point of starting a poll on his own board when it would wallow in team bias ?

I'm not suggesting that it's a great topic, but one wouldn't bother starting it on a team board.

Well if Melbourne fans expectations on next year are anything to go by on this forum the past couple of months they will finish streets ahead of Essendon next year.

I suspect they will get 7th or 8th while Essendon around 10th.

As bad as Essendons year was we still only finished 6 points behind the Dees and beat more top 8 teams than they did.

That said the AFL clearly wants Melbourne to play finals nex.t season and has gifted them the easiest of draws. Oh and their midfield sh*ts all over ours.

Melbourne to finish higher

This is probably the worst place to bring this up as people will probs just think of me as one eyed bombers supporter but thought it for a while now.

I think the Dees are going to stagnate next season. This isnt due to them having a bad list or anything just a natural development to the future success they will eventually be competing for. With such a young list cant help but think a lot of the younger players will be given a bit more respect and their output as a result will stagnate. Predict them to finish around same mark + or - 2 positions.

(also bombers will win the flag so bit unfair to compare as hirdy is back? havnt u heard a hird is the word? i said a hird hird hird a hird is the word:D)

a possibility to happen rusman but the way i see it is that it was joint improvement from a lot of our player, not just the young ones, which helped us Green, Jamar, Frawley, Moloney as well

some of good younger players stagnated a bit last year such as Morton and Jones and should offer us more next year and players like Grimes and Sylvia will hopefully put a full season together

Watts' improvement will be crucial, if he can become a 25-35 goal forward next year it would add a lot to our team and be a good step for him

im not sure how the Essendon players will react to Hird and i suspect them getting a quality young mid or two through the draft will help them enourmously (if i were essendon id be drafting Caddy and Prestia unless Polec or Gaff slides)

melbourne should finish above Essendon, because we probably are a bit further ahead in the development of our younger players
