Defeat still driving Mooney

It was one of many stark images of a remarkable night of football at the SCG.

The Sydney Swans had come from nowhere to steal an amazing three-point victory over Geelong in last year's semi-final thanks to four last-quarter goals from Nick Davis.

The Cats were heartbroken, no-one more so than Cameron Mooney who left the field in tears. He wasn't alone. Geelong was devastated and the raw emotion was amplified by the fact that the match was veteran defender Brenton Sanderson's final game with the club.

Mooney is a passionate person who wears his heart on his sleeve on the field. The 26-year-old agrees his emotions were simply a natural reaction.

In fairness to Johnson#26, I've never seen him troll before and I don't think this is an attempt at it.

But J#26 - why not post the whole article. Selective editing for what reason?

Good. I hope it stings because if it didnt we might as well forget any happy summers for the next 5-10 years. If that didnt hurt, who knows what it would take to get them to focus on what happens when you miss.

Missing ones chance should hurt. Talk to Budda, talk to Hinkley , talk to Sam Newman , talk to Dougy Hawkins, talk to any champion what its like to have have that little hollow piece of hell that never fills. To have Richard craniums like Dermie rub your nose in it when hes showing of his 5 medals.Or worse have a guy thats played just a few games or big over rated duds like Headland give you a put on the shoulder.Talk about something sticking in your throat.

Having a read today in the press about Casey Green going from West Coast to the Kangas. The article painted the picture of the player that knew he basically pushing the proverbial up hill to get a game all 05, knew no matter what he was gone at years end but he got into the side on the last day of footy for the year and was nearly a premiership player.Fate has a sick sense of humour.Finacially he will be so much better of being at club hes in their best 15 but how many footballers would give so much up for that medal.

It can be cruel this game of ours, that players like him, a worker bee if you like, might become Premiership players if they just happen to be in the right place at the right time.Ita team game.Im not dening their right to it but look at some of the players that have a flag next to their name and it makes you wonder about its relavtive fairness. History is littered with them guys like Mario Bortalotto , Teddy Hopkins to name a but few that were nothing but good ordinary footballers while champs like Robbie Flower or Gary Ablett Snr or Tony Locket have this little missing tick on their CV.

So back to the point of the pain of the miss, if they didnt show that it hurt Id be worried.Pain can be good.Pain can make you bitter, twisted and very determined.Pain can make you do what needs to be done. When watching the big Cam on TV , he always gave me the impression that he was unsure what it ment to him. I hope he has a better idea now

The best thing is that he knows what the ultimate achievement feels like and I bet he can't wait to do it again. He should be hungrier than anyone.

Guys, its no troll. I've just been posting all news from the AFL, Herald Sun and The Age on the different club boards over the past few days. Not trying to stir the pot - its just the news. I'm not the trolling type.:)

Generally the AFL (I think) doesn't want the whole article published on the fan sites. I've always done it this way on Nicks BB.

Larrikin transformed into a leader
By Lyall Johnson
February 16, 2006

LATE last season, with pressure mounting on Geelong as it endured a four-game losing streak and threatened to slip out of finals contention, Cameron Mooney sauntered up to Mark Thompson and his coaching staff and, with a wry grin, invited them out to lunch.

"You look like you could do with some cheering up," Mooney suggested. "I'm paying."

The group headed off to the Cats bistro and spent a light-hearted hour or so discussing just about everything — except football.
