Well Alan Jeans (an ex cop) famously beat the shit outta Dipper (made him cry) so could well be Parkin in a similar roleThe head shot in that youtube clip lol. Whoever that guy is.

Seriously? I never heard of that one.Well Alan Jeans (an ex cop) famously beat the shit outta Dipper (made him cry) so could well be Parkin in a similar role
Well maybe beat the shit out of is a slight exaggeration, but he pinned him down at training and made him beg for mercy to the point of tears in front of everyone.Seriously? I never heard of that one.
****. Humiliating.Well maybe beat the shit out of is a slight exaggeration, but he pinned him down at training and made him beg for mercy to the point of tears in front of everyone.
After a few injury interrupted years (1992 and esp 93) he was offered a pitiful contract-- we're talking base salary and no incentives -- leaving him little choice but to leave, as the club no doubt hoped. After the service he gave the club, incl so many injuries sustained he can barely move today, it was nothing short of appalling to treat a legend like that. Gary Ayres got the same treatment.
Ironically i think Derm was the Swans highest paid player 1994.
Sorry, that's what I meant by it sounding fishy & when Sheehan asked him that question I nearly chocked on me lucky charms. He donated to an Irish charity. Nothing fishy about it except that he was falsely accused of supporting the IRA. Brereton himself addressed it publicly and there are plenty of online resources about it.
Wallace def left on his own accord, few left for Brisbane Bears early days and not sure what the link was with St Kilda but a heap were traded there over a short period -- Wittman, Anderson, Morris, Russo, Handley, Ralpsmith, Harding. All we got was Ricky Nixon in returnWhat's forgotten is that Hawthorn had a long history even then of showing veterans the door once their use by date was up. There's no shortage of premiership players from the 1980s who were exited fairly unceremoniously once the time had come - Wallace, Russo, Morris, Judge, Eade, Abbott, and Curran for starters (probably others I've forgotten). Brereton thought he was different. He wasn't.

So like the opposite of my teamWhat's forgotten is that Hawthorn had a long history even then of showing veterans the door once their use by date was up. Ahhh, 1985, what a way to send matthews into retirement, well played Stan Carey.Brereton wasn't scared of anybody, Merrett was there in 85 when Dermie started to throw his weight around on the field and didn't do much about it from memory.

Few in there who prob weren't thrilled to be let go like Gowers, Curran and Eade, but otherwise i flatly reject yr statement. Trades happen, that's just clubland
Difference is that in the 80s most players on the Hawthorn list were premiership players. i mean playing 8 grand finals in 9 years is fairly unprecedented. But lot of names listed above were prob fringe players with that said, so again dont feel like we were particularly ruthless in our list management. Which is why a lot of Hawthorn supporters remain dirty of the treatment of BreretonTrades happen for sure, but I can't think of another club that so consistently moved premiership players on. The total lack of sentimentality (which was unusual and probably pretty smart) was striking for that era.

93/94 was the only year we blantantly disrespected our players . Along with Derm, Gary Ayres, and Tony Hall could've been another one who left for what was a combo of the club being cash strapped due to financial mismanagment and players falling out with then coach Alan Joyce in 1993.

Angry Derm (with an angry perm)

Angry Derm (with an angry perm)
yeah they were all pretty ordinary trades that left a bad taste. Though the Croady one somehow turned out beautifully with his return for the 08 flag. What about Mitchell and Jordan Lewis?
Moved em on?
McPharline and Croad? they were used like Kennedy was to get Judd.
McPharline and Croad got you Hodge and Mitchell.
Hawks have always been cold blooded at the backend of their players careers.
Still don't know what the free kick was for. Kissing?

Ridiculous. Wouldn’t even be a free these days probabaly. In that era it was playful banter and nothing more. Dermie had every right to be seethingStill don't know what the free kick was for. Kissing?
as insane as it was, Derm chose wisely to run through the huddle and not the umpire.Yeah I don’t think Dermie thought it was a great call either
I think the two of them were trading some sneaky clips and as umpires tend to do, he looked up and paid whichever one he happened to see.
