Coach Did Hinkley underperform as Power coach?

Early years, overperformed with a reasonable list.
Later years, underperformed in big games due to a demonstrably poor game plan for finals.
H&A record is very good because we consistently won games we were expected to win. But H&A record against good teams mirrors the poor finals record.

Should have been gone a long long time ago.
My opinion only, but isn’t that the point of being a fan?

In 2014, 2020 and 2021 he had close to the best list in the AFL, but never had the best. Coaches have won premierships without the best list, but not Hinkley. He's simply been given more leeway than any other coach because every time he's looked to be on the way to sacking, he's made the eight.

2013 - finals
2014 - finals
2015 - no
2016 - no
2017 - finals
2018 - no
2019 - no
2020 - finals
2021 - finals
2022 - no
2023 - finals
2024 - finals
2025 - almost certainly no

He's never missed the eight more than two years in a row. He has also never made the eight more than two years in a row. One of the most unusual coaching careers in league history.

I'd say he's neither underperformed nor overperformed. He's had an extraordinarily long stint to achieve par. You could say he overachieved in career preservation.

I think Port were crap when he joined, and it seem as though he (and Koch) have had to deal with white ants like Tredrea wrecking the joint from within.

Very good coach with very few resources. I'd say in the second tier with Fly, Bevo. Scott, Dimma, and Clarko the top tier (Clarko fading now).

I think he's done well to get them competitive. Probably should've had 1 grand final appearance but I never thought of them as a premiership caliber team so have done well to be so close.

I see the opposite. He way underperform given the list after 2015-2019 especially 2018 when you were 11-4 and missed out on the Finals and overperform with the list from 2020.

Squad in the 2020’s ran far deeper than the 2010’s, which really fell off once you got to player 15-18.

Poor leadership, pitiful club, overrated list and a supporter base that does nothing than to try and "tear us apart".

Honestly between tolerating Koch and their supporter base for so long, Ken should nearly get a statue.

Though we know what the Power ferals would do to it.
Of course you know ferals, you invented it.

A solid coach over the journey, but could never find the secret sauce to turn Port into a genuine premiership threat (and I disagree with most, he had enough of the pieces to at least jag one). So, by that metric, yeah he unperformed.

**** yeah we did. Port are Temu feral
nah, not gonna go there.
I so want to go there about high profile Collingwood supporters in the crowd, but I won’t bite.

I’ll just settle for Pies fans bragging that they were smart because they invented the toothbrush. Everyone else used to call it a “teethbrush”.

You just did bite and lowered your colours. Pretty feral behaviour.

Didn't underperform, never had a great team but got a lot out of them.
Would be viewed as one of the greats if they nabbed a flag or two.

Never had the cattle to actually win a flag - despite what PA folk may think - they have always had easily identifiable flaws in personell.
Yeah always felt this, when we have had clear injury runs we have good years, suffered early on this year because of it.

His first team bottomed out when we were really bad as a whole club and had GC and GWS taking most of the picks.

The years we lost close prelim's, 2014 and 2020 (i think) we had chances but lacked that senior experience and clinical players on the day. The Richmond prelim at home Rozee and Boak both missed gettable set shots on the day which would have changed the outcome. Most other premiership teams at the time had more luck with there list build with F/S , Academy, and priority picks; or a superstar going for cheaper. Alot of that is out of his control.

I think Choco under achieved in the 2000-2004 period in comparison when you look at the lists.

Given where they were in the Primus era and then the immediate rise and perennial upper-middle table he has done wonders in an 18 team comp.

The only time they looked a serious threat was 2020, which was a winnable season and they had a rock solid window outfit then. Similarly good in 2021 but a few sides clearly had their measure by then. Also looked dangerous at times in 2014 in how they overran sides. But you can’t trust them in big finals against heavyweight contenders, that pretender tag haunts them. I’m actually impressed how they kicked on post-Gray with Rozee/Butters.
