Hey all,

Thread is what the title says, post any unknown or rare facts about the VFL/AFL world.
From delistings and trades that never happened to the corporate side.

I'll kick it off with:
Did you know in 2004 Richmond offered Nick Maxwell a 3 year, 1 million dollar contract.

Over to you.

Tigerland55.

Good one.

At sydney, The leadership group (not just coaches) grill and praise players in an open room type player assessment. On and off field efforts and qualities are addressed. One of the reasons nic Davis delisted.

What did he start doing wrong? Do you know?

You offered a guy who had played 10 mediocre games for another club a 3 year, $1m deal? Righto.

Did you know...

Of all current players, Andrew Embley was the youngest to debut.

Of all current players, James Frawley is the only one in the top 10 for games played without playing a final that has at no stage played for Richmond.

Had Dream Team been around in 1992, in Rd 7 Jason Dunstall would have registered a score of 243.

Did I read somewhere recently that Dustin Fletcher will go down in histroy as the only player to play against Fitzroy and at least one of the two expansion teams in GC and/or GWS. Might have played against all 3?

Mind you, he's that old he probably played against University as well....

I say that as a compliment. His longeivity is remarkable. Not to mention a great player.

I'm pretty sure he once saw a gun as well....I'm sure I heard about it on Chan 7 at least 10 times?

No what happened was, Harry O'Brien was on Google Earth and he decided to zoom in on Brazil, and he saw a red stain on the road and a suspect man running along the street with Asics and soccer shorts on. He suspects foul-play.

also played against the Brisbane Bears before the merger. So until we add 2 more teams he'll hold that record. Boomer Harvey was around during Fitzroy era but didn't play them unfortunately!

His attitude and behaviors on and odd field wasn't acceptable in terms of club culture and club ideals. Paul Roos spoke at our work conference in 2011, was a very interesting insight.

He also spoke about the months leading up to goodes becoming captain (or into the leadership group I forget) when mayfield was captain and he had numerous meetings in Roos office asking him to put him in the leadership group and Roos made him put his case forward. Pretty boring overall but an interesting insight.

I like that sort of stuff, I find that all interesting.
Feel free to PM me with a longer and more in depth story about it :)

On retirement in 2007 Lance Whitnall became the first Carlton player to play 200 games for the club yet never win a premiership. In 2011 Ryan Houlihan added his name to that list, and remains the only Carlton 200 gamer to never have played in a Grand Final.
