That's why I called it the "wild card" option.....if I was framing a market though I would have it way ahead of Darwin but well behind canberra[?].
Population of the Hunter is over 600K and there are another 300K plus within around 90 minutes down the road in the central coast. Almost a million pueblas

IMO, Sth. or SW Syd., will enter with Tas. in the next expansion (McLachlan in April 2017, & Demetriou have said Tas " will probably be next" expansion).
Canberra will probably have c.4 games with the new S.Syd. team, due to geographic proximity (ie GWS will vacate Canberra). Camden, with strong GR, is being "surprisingly" promoted in 2018 to the Premier Div. in the SFL -& is recruiting strongly.
AFL will "follow the money", advertising/media/top ASX 200 companies' concentration -thus Syd. gets a 3rd AFL team.

AF has shown strong growth in Newcastle, off a very low base, in last 3 years. The AFL has announced a proposal to take over the Black Diamond League, & wants to commence significant GR funding there. It is amazing the NSW govt. wants to demolish 2 very good stadia, & spend $2.5 billion+ for 2 replacements -but Newcastle/Hunter does not have a decent oval stadium for the BBL,WBBL, & AFL.

Newcastle has a 33k stadium for the NRL, International RL & Soccer games & ALeague. It would be a very long shot to think Newcastle would get an AFL/BBL ground. BBL expansion itself is a long shot, let alone an AFL club anytime this millenium.

One would think WA3&4, SA3, Sydney3&4, & Brisbane2, Sunshine Coast1, FNQ1, ACT1, NZ1 & God forbid, Tas1 would be on line far earlier than N1

Where does this "should" come from?

The other problem for darwin is the climate. Its already a challenge scheduling a couple of nt games with enough break for teams after. Have 11 up there and it would be a scheduling nightmare
