His talent could add a dimension to the forward lines of clubs such as
West Coast, Adelaide, Melbourne, Essendon, Richmond and possibly Port Adelaide. He also has strong ties to Carlton.
Drafted (pick No. 23) by Collingwood in 1998 under the father-son rule, his dad, Craig, played for the Pies and Carlton and his godfather is Carlton great Alex Jesaulenko.

Personally, if we manged to get him for cheap, i'd definately give him anoher shot.

Always been a big fan of his talent, and at only 27 (the same age as Fev) has a fair few years of good football left.

Everyone knows that we have a shallow forward line, and giving it a bit of variety would do the world of good. Just look at how good Welsh has been for the Bulldogs.

Thoughts?

No.

You don't want two forwards in the one forward line who when they have an off day, they have a really off day, and end up spending the whole day sooking about it.

Throw in Betts' tendency to become somewhat lazy at times, and that would not be the ideal forward line.

He's certainly talented, but there's a lot of baggage there and if Sydney couldn't fix him, then I don't see a point in taking a risk on him. Especially since he's not a consistent performer.

Free or 4th round pick (which we wont be using), Small Contract, yes!

Otherwise, NO!

It seems Davis and his managment are after something more substantial than 1 year deals from Sydney.

No doubt they will be pushing for a 3 year deal at a new club. They wont get it.

I think any club willing to offer 3 years will have rocks in their heads, so i believe we can snatch him up for 2 years, without losing very much.

I'm not so impressed by Sydney's supposed culture of turning recalcitrants into good players.

Lockett. Champion player, didn't like the spot light. Performed well on a small ground. What did Sydney actually do to change his outlook?

Hall. Very good player. Traded. Realises he is on his last chance so tones down his agro, focusses on his footy, does well. How much did Roos do to change him?

Davis. Dropped. Knuckles down, comes back does well. Doesn't this happen at every club?

Roos has this smooth cool nice guy persona but after his pathetic comments about our season last year I think its a facade. I now think that he is a nasty sly bastard underneath.

Davis has dropped his bundle again. Maybe the tough love message doesn't work for all the players.

If he goes, I hope it is with Paul Roos absolute gratitude and blessing because without his contribution, Sydney would be where they are now....competitive but that's about it.

Ratten would be much better equipped to handle Davis.

I'd welcome him to Carlton.

Speaking of overweight lazy forwards.......anyone see the "Big Red" jelly roll playing th EJ Whitten game last night........yes Ricky......he still has something to offer an AFL club.

That's a no to Davis BTW.
Too old (27, 28 next year)..........and not disciplined enough.

He's not fat.

Just big boned.

We've had this before. For the 2nd and hopefully bloody last time I'll say this, NO. In fact, I said no 4 times on the other occassion, so it's 5 times I've said it.

Does it even need answering, FFS... not even in PSD because although he costs you stuff all he will impact on developing our forward line for the future and take away opportunities for a youngster.

yes aslong as i doesnt cost us a low draft pick. same age as fev and has alot of talent. As everyone knows our forward line is not the best he could be a valuable pick up

Oh, didn't realise that YOU'VE said it 5 times now. Thread closed, the great one has spoken!

Anyway, the thread seems fairly divided, leaning towards a NO at this stage.

The way i see it, he wont be doing any harm sitting on our list as long as it doesn't cost us too much. If he comes around, then it will be a huge benefit to our structure.

Sydney seem to be going along just fine without Davis supposedly corrupting the playing list. One guy wont be let to influence 43 other guys in a negative manner.

No wonder you call yourself FieryNayta. Geez, take some angry pills, I wasn't having a go at YOU. Yeah, the great one has spoken.

As it stands now, we have to take 3 players in the ND and Jamo will have to be elevated to our senior list after his second year on the rookie list.

To accommodate this, its probably safe to say that Ackland, Saddington, Blackwell and Aisake (assuming the rumours of his discipline problems and desire to go back home are true) will be delisted at the end of the year.

Which means that even if we got Davis cheap, that's another delisting that we'll have to make room for him on the list.

Who are you suggesting should get the chop to make way for him?

Wiggins?
Russell?
Bannister?
Hartlett?
Edwards?
Benjamin?
Anderson?

Whilst Nick Davis no doubt has great skills, is a very good small forward and would be a great foil for Fev, my view is that Eddie Betts fits the small forward bill in our team, with the only criticism of Eddie being that he should be front and centre of the marking contests more often, so he can collect the spillages.

If my recollection is correct, the new recruiting policy at CFC is pretty much that we largely recruit no one over the age of 24 and we focus on youth and rebuilding - Nick Davis would not fit into that broad policy.

Nick Davis (if he was traded from the Swans) would be a better fit for a flag contender that is within reach of a premiership in say the next 1-2 years. Given we are in a "rebuilding" phase it wouldn't really suit our medium to long term list needs.
