Nicks will be outclassed by better coaches but there are enough mediocre teams and home games that we will win. At this stage I think we will be around the 6th to 8th mark. Basically Nicks will turn us into a team of downhill skiers.
We are good enough to sneak into 6th-8th. Forward line is fine but a bit reliant on talls with Rash out and Rankine up the ground. Midfield should be fine, just we were cooked off 5 day break. We took care of GC's AFL assisted midfield over there, have confidence in this group. Ruck is shambolic and defence is not far off. I remember us trying to switch the play last season and we didnt have the foot skills to do it consistently, it's a major issue to not have anyone who we can rely on to move the ball out of D50 safely (well we do, he's just on the Wing).We also like to drop talls for some reason, Worrell is a 3rd tall not a KPD. I'd consider Dawson playing mid/def but liecnce to move high up the ground, bit like how Sinclair/NWM are used at the Saints.
If you look at what Dimma did with the Suns last year, he pumped games into the kids constantly. He also rotated a stack of players at half back and quickly found out none of them were good, so he went for Rioli and Noble. Nicks doesn't have a good read on this list and has predertmined bias towards some players, especially senior guys, so is very close minded when it comes to selection and positional moves.

6th year and no finals he has to go.
No one was getting Adelaide into the finals in his first 3 years.
Maybe we need to be the one to take the punt and get Bassett as head coach.
4th year was close, can give him a pass mark. Last year we lost to Richmond at home, no excuse despite injuries. Bottom 4 was unacceptable. This year he has everything he needs (besides a ruck). If he can't put the pieces together to at least make finals then time to move on.

Thats fine. But a good coach would have gotten them into the finals in years 4 and 5.

Thats a massive assumption and one id argue is pretty wrong considering our list profile going into 2020. Our squad crashed under Nicks as he chased a full rebuild.
Looking at the draw - 3-2 with a strong percentage is just a pass mark.
We must do minimum 3-2 over the next 5 games, which won’t be as easy, but would put us in a decent position.
My expectations are we make finals and no reason not to push every team. Losing by 1 point and then giving up a 5 goal lead the week after is not ideal. After three dominant games, we’ve been unable to step up when things have got tough, so still much to prove. It can start next week vs GWS at home.

Especially with the bottom few looking unlikely to cause upsets against those competing for top 8. Early days, but I’d be guessing 13 would be needed to guarantee finals.

Injuries and suspensions will define our season, I think if we have a good run in that regard we are certainly capable of making the bottom half of the 8.

Considering we’re still in the top 8 with a healthy percentage, I’d say “why not”?
We’ve had 3 testing games so far: Dons (away game), Suns (away game; heavily biased umps) and Cats (home game). We’ve done ok in 2 of these 3 games. So as of the time of writing, we are showing a likelihood rather than not.
I still think the midway mark of the season will be the best point of judgment as it’s still too early, and the teams haven’t all played the top teams as yet.

Raises an interesting question, would people rather finish 7th/8th, lose week 1 of finals, get Nicks extended on the back of finals, or miss finals again and sack him?

See how Nicks goes for this year, I'd like it to be his judgement year, last year was a big X and another one in year 6 isn't good enough.
The club should be on the Phone to Adam Simpson. There is no saving WC in the short term. He probably let standards slip after the GF but this is a very hard working group and we need someone to get the best out of them.

Pencil in Carlton, WCE, Richmond (lol), Melbourne, WCE again and Kangaroos, which gets us to 11.
From there if we want to make it, we need to pick off 2 other likely losses. Best chances probably being the other Showdown, Freo away, Bulldogs at the shithole, Collingwood home (this could become a huge match - R23).

Just re-did ladder predictor and came up with us finishing 9th on 14 wins. It did have Suns playing twice in the last round, so might not be too reliable.
