And this year has very similar feel to season 2016 - we didn’t lose to a side outside the top 9 and we went 4-6 to those in the top 8. Even in seasons 1997, 1998, 2005, 2006, 2012 and 2017 when we made Preliminary Finals we lost to sides outside the top 8. Only in 2002 did we make a Preliminary and not lose to a side outside top 8.

Unlike 2016, lets hope we secure a top 4 spot.

Just highlighting how close the top 9 are and one team will miss out - in a thread titled "will we make the finals".

People shouldn't be looking at the ladder, seeing us third and concluding "of course we'll make the finals".

Yes we are third but we're only in the eight on percentage, bloody weird year.

Yep very compact ladder 3rd to 9th, But I feel we probably should have one more win and be a game clear in 3rd at this stage.
Lucky to win the Brisbane game but probably should have beat Hawthorn and Gold Coast.

Got overrated by lots of the so called experts preseason. Just a bland defensive team with a couple of good midfielders and a shit forward line.

Had us beat pretty early in our worst performance of the year though which was very disappointing.

yep and at the moment I'm hoping Geelong lose to GWS, But if we lose to the Bulldogs I'd be thinking our top 2 chances are gone and thinking 4th is the best we can finish therefore it might be better if Geelong finish top 2 so we wouldn't have to go to Brisbane for a cut throat final.

We've gotta take care of business ourselves but other results are going to be big in the run to this September

If we finish 2nd. Dare to dream. This idea we can’t win the thing is BS. ‘why not us’ should be the new mantra. As a complete squad we don’t have finals experience. But don’t discount the experience Tex, ANB, Laird, Smith, Cumming, Crouch and co bring.

We're 2 games behind Collingwood now, if we manage to win out from here we beat Cwd, which puts us just one game behind. If Brisbane beat them too, we finish ahead of Cwd on percentage, and I can't see Brisbane winning out with their tough run home. The bookies have realised this too, we are now second favourite behind Cwd to finish top at about $5.
