I'm a ranga and I do feel the bias and discrimination - I blame the government and South Park

I believe Trout has had some extreme mental health issues not the least being diagnosed with accute rangaphobia. After requesting that St.Kilda remove the red from their colours and that being turned down I believe has asked for a transfer to Collingwood but only if Treloar is delisted. Think there's something in it - discuss

Didn't this already lead to WW111 on the trade thread?.

There has been a fair amount of historical persecution of red heads, including in Europe when it was associated with being Jewish, there are many other examples just do a bit of research.

I can't think of many instances where you can refer to someone as a subhuman ape and get away with it, of course it's all just good fun.

I might also add than many beautiful women and leading men have been red heads, two blokes that spring to mind are Paul newman and Robert Redford. Historical figures like cleopatra had red hair, in homers odyssey and the lliad both Menelaus and Achilles had red hair.

So I guess from that many people must find red hair particularly attractive.

Poor old Jack Daniels had a rude head but hey so do plenty of people of all hair colours, I'm sure some of you don't own a mirror.

At any rate it's not funny I'm pretty sure that most red heads just put up with it and I have known a few over the years who would have really messed up anyone stupid enough to call them that.

Now here is something to think about mick hucknall has sleep with a who's who of beautiful women, models, actresses you name it literally thousands of women. I guess they must find red heads rather attractive.

Bottom line it's not funny it's just bullying at best.

We’ve really lost the ability to joke about anything now, haven’t we...

I’d say until redheads are getting lynched, slow your roll on the whole “woe is us” shtick. Probably worth noting that half my family are flaming rangas, including my beloved cousin, my own hair has a healthy slap of rang through it and I grow a beard that looks like it been dyed.

None of us have ever copped any ‘abuse’ for it.

In my mind there is a distinction between a Soft Ranga such as Jack Newnes and the full blooded Celtic Warrior like Jayson Daniels. I agree with the OP.

I'll admit first up I'm a brunette, so never had the word directed at me, so this is a genuine question....
Now that the word "ranga" appears to have been around for decades,
(although I admit I hadn't heard it in my pre-Australian life) is it really still taken as it was originally intended, as an insult, rather than these days purely a description of someone as is blonde, brunette etc? The term "dumb blonde" seems a lot worse afaic.

So often over the years, words become commonplace and not quite the way they were originally intended. Calling someone a bastard, doesn't mean what it did in the biblical sense and sometimes is used in a lighthearted manner, and even the F word has lost its shock value after becoming so much a part of the common vernacular.

So, do most people of the Titian or auburn coloured hair variety still get as upset about it as they used to? Is it still a term we still need to be sensitive about using?

I can tell it's the silly season...how long till the footy starts????
