We’ve really lost the ability to joke about anything now, haven’t we...

I’d say until redheads are getting lynched, slow your roll on the whole “woe is us” shtick. Probably worth noting that half my family are flaming rangas, including my beloved cousin, my own hair has a healthy slap of rang through it and I grow a beard that looks like it been dyed.

None of us have ever copped any ‘abuse’ for it.
Well like everything it all depends on the person, what finished it for me was an add for the tac.

When you have the government which is so sensitive to everything else running adds like that, then that's enough for me.

I have three red heads and plenty of red head relatives and when you have a beautiful little girl with magnificent strawberry blonde hair wanting to dye it because of a state government funded and encouraged campaign to belittle them that's enough for me.

Yep let's all have a laugh call a few people by the n word I mean why not? Can't we joke about anything now?.

I have referenced the historical persecution of red heads, it's a fact do a bit of research. It seems to me that they are the last low hanging fruit in Australia, IMHO it's just bullying.

I must live in the red head capital of Australia it's very common here in the inner south and bayside and I'm yet to find a child or parent who thinks it's all just a bit of fun.

If red heads have to turn the other cheek why can't everyone else? After all it's just a bit of fun right.

I actually found it far worse in the UK where I would have girls say to me outright that they would never go out with me because I was a redhead. After telling them to f**k off in no uncertain terms (yes really) it did affect me so that for a while I dyed it brown but stopped that after a while. My niece is also a red head.

I dont understand what the problem is as it is a beautiful colour. I would have countless people coming to my Mum telling her how beautiful my hair was when I was a small child so it wasnt all bad I suppose....

Exactly ace the point is their not having a bit of harmless fun and for a government to pay for a campaign that encouraged abuse is just a disgrace.

I had an interesting discussion with a commissioner from the equal opportunity board who expressed the opinion that whilst it would be hard to prosecute under the current law, the adds were a disgrace. She had plenty more to say on the subject mostly along the lines of what I have discussed.

The fact that you have kids being belittled and feeling they need to change their appearance should be enough for fair minded people to cut this bit of harmless fun out.

Yes every hairdresser my daughter ever visited said for gods sake don't ever touch your hair Colour. It was so light as to be almost white blonde with a red highlight but clearly the bullying affected her badly enough to dye it, mores the pity.

Chris Lilly is the guy who popularised the term. There are African Americans who want to knife him after he went black face for a character that was shown in the US. A few Tongans probably don't think much of him either.

Hahaha. Yep. Comparing ranga to n*****. Righto.

Well, those of you gifted or cursed with red hair can take solace from the fact that the Plantagenet kings of England were redheads.
You might all be of royal lineage.
Unlike this little brown and grey duck.

I have a line that goes back to the Plantagenets, I'm not sure anyone wants to associate with that, I'm pretty sure the red head thing was a mutation from too small a gene pool.

While I do sympathise with the offended on this one I think this thread was more taking mick out of austinn for his 'I think my team are racist' thread than anything else and wasn't meant to offend.

Any topic that can be used to bully is serious for kids and therefore serious for concerned parents and there's no doubt red hair is high on a bully's hit list.

It's number 3 I think. Just ahead of having no right foot.

I see one or two have taken this topic seriously. Common cant we joke these days. Eddie got in trouble for a little joke the other night, they want to change ruckman to ruckperson. The world has gone completely crazy. I Dad happened to mention he voted no for gay marriage last noght and WW3 nearly started with the youngsters in the house. Whilst I completely disagree with him he has every right to vote how he wants. He was voting for Hitler to be declared innocent. Lets have some fun back in our lives and lets let others have the right to opinion. This post is obviously a joke post so take it as that.

And I don't think we have enough blood nuts or rangers in our side.

This thread was a total pisstake and I took it as such. I totally get it for what its worth but it is also true that rangas are discriminated against still which is ridiculous in this day and age.

Funnily enough you wouldn't know that I am a ranga anymore as I shave my head!!!

I'm an old f**t of a redhead [yep even saw the triumph of '66!] and the term "ranga" is a relatively new term of derision for the supreme form of Celtic hair coloring. What used to be bantered around when I was a tacker was the term "Blue". Didn't know where that came from but it would drive me crazy because I couldn't see the connection with my hair color. Now I can see it was associated with the Celts and the way they painted themselves blue when they went into a bit of a stoush....! Perhaps that Celtic background is also why [some] redheads [not me of course] supposedly have a quick temper as well!!!
