Does your interest in the AFL wane when the WC is on?

Its amazing how little you offer any thread at all, instead preferring to troll. Another example of how badly this forum is moderated. You are classic nerd in mums basement.

On topic, I went to Adelaide Hawthorn whilst WC. Wasnt an easy choice but I feel that I am much more attached to the Crows than Socceroos.

Although the times generally dont interfere between the codes so Ive been able to watch both. Long way of saying no, interest doesnt wane
You are the most tiresome poster on bf. Everything you say is just a drag. You needed more hugs as a child

While i dont share your opinion - I think the world cup is the best sporting competition- i respect your views. I for instance tried out watching rugby league even going to the first ever state of origin held in melb in mid 90s. But league leaves me totally cold.

You either like a sport or you dont
Yep, I’ve been watching the World Cup this year, as I have been with varying degrees of intent since the early 80s, and I’ve concluded my initial reaction is unchanged. To me it’s simply an inferior sport. And I don’t care if most of the world thinks I’m wrong.

It’s incomprehensible to me, raised on our great game, how anyone else raised on Aussie Rules could find much of interest in what is, let’s face it, the one Sunday School Picnic event that actually went on to achieve wider appeal.

Clearly you’re able to see something in it that I’m not, and I respect your ability, but I’ve given soccer several decades, more than enough time, and I just find it silly.

Of course it does.

You insular small minded people who hate 'sokkah' are embarrassing. All of you. Its a big world out there and they all love the beautiful game. You're not special if you don't like it, you're just wrong.

Don't @ me
What’s “beautiful” about it? Serious question.

I tried to watch it, it’s just too slow.
Agreed. Last night, finally got a chance to catch up on a bit more of the tape of last weekend’s Swans game.

FTA was on as I loaded the hard disk. Portugal 1 Morocco 0.

Watched a scintillating 30-40 mins of Swans/West Coast. We scored half a dozen goals, Eagles a couple.

Time to hit the hay. Switch off the hard disk. FTA comes back on the screen. Portugal 1 Morocco 0.

I’ve been in the same creative career for nearly 40 years, plugging away at what fulfills me for very little financial reward. But soccer fans tell me my love of AFL is proof I only want sugar hits and have no appreciation of subtlety and perseverance.

My interest is definitely off, to the point this is the first time i have logged into bigfooty this week. Did not watch any of the footy shows on Monday night and missed the front bar last night which i am a regular.

I think the world cup is the main reason, but also the bye weeks factors in. Actually not even sure if i will bother watching the match tonight, would rather watch the pre game build up to Socceroos match.

Does anybody know why the AFL spread 6 games over 4 days when it's a bye round?

Especially when the WC is on.

You’re watching to many geelong games, a defensive ugly team to watch.
I make a post about the sport in general. 3 Tigers flogs bring it back to my club.
Get over yourselves. The sport in general is piss poor spectacle atm.

The example used was the best game of the round which happened to involve Geelong. It was widely commented on as being one of the best games of the year given the physicality and closeness of the contest.

That you got so defensive about it is troubling

Which highlights my point perfectly. The fact that merely being physical and close makes it one of the games of the year is an indictment on how far this sport has fallen.

It was still a low skilled affair on both sides with few redeeming moments.
It’s actually sad that this was a contest between two top 4 aspirants and is regarded as one of the games of the year. It was crap footy, no flow, low skills and a dour affair.

I only watch Richmond games these days so following the WC doesn't impact my interest in footy at all. Been lucky that no RFC games have coincided with Socceroos matches. :p

Yes, but it happens every year around this time of year for me, I got Roland Garros/Wimbledon, Giro/Le Tour(Come on Richie) plus once every 2 years, either the Ashes/Soccer World cup. (Euros as well)

So many great sports on. Why bother watching just one.

I must admit my interest in AFL has waned a lot over this year compared to previous years.

Agreed that tonight is a big conundrum. If its a belting I'll be there for the bounce, even with replays.

Whilst the World Cup is the Olympics for many of us, even without it you have Le Tour, tennis Grand Slams, arguably State of Origin, which all prize attention at this time of year.
