best mid available, inside would be the go, Bomber does not like the flashy ones.

Melbourne is crying out for mid-field class, especially with Scully's exit but with our picks we're not going to get that in this year's draft. We must look to the 2012 trade and draft to fix this problem and with Jack Viney and the Scully picks intact we can do it.

With 36, 52 and 54 in 2011 we are in the zone of picking for needs. We need small forwards and small backs and should be able to take some speculative picks here to suit. The attributes for both are similar - good pace, contested ball winning, good kick, big engine not critical.

Hawks need inside/outside mids to eventually replace Mitchell, Sewell, Burgoyne and Hodge when they eventually retire. Aside from that we don't really have any pressing immediate needs which is nice.

Personally id love North to find a Gorilla forward. None of this lean leading junk, someone with power and attitude. Screamed to trade McIntosh to snag Hurley, although happy with Atley really wanted Darling 1st pick last year. Would have thrown the house at dawes. Dont care about off feild issues want on feild performance.

But 99.5% of North ppl will say outside mid flanker, blah blah yawn.
..Lol?

Definitely highest priority would be defenders given the age of our defensive group, and at least one key defender in particular.

Another key forward might also be a good idea, although we might go that way through the rookie draft and pick up a long term project there.

We could use another inside mid as well although that's probably a lesser need, at least in the short term.

This, but I still sense we'll go after a small forward since we chased Hill in 2010, and also enquired about Campbell this year.

Definietly a project ruckman to add to our depleted ruck stocks - Bolger?
And probably key position forwards as we just lost a couple in trade week - Dobosz?
Possibly a ready made mid that is right to go next year - Ellis?

In my most recent draft of my mock I had you guys snagging both Bolger and Dobosz incidentally.

For North I would try and draft a quality KPF (A power forward type to replace Petrie). However I doubt there will be one available at 18 given GWS will no doubt load up on talls.

So next best would be a HBF. McKenzie would be my choice at this stage.

Indeed, the KPP depth in this draft is very weak, factor in GWS looking for talls and it'll be very slim pickings.

Not:
- inside mid
- small/medium defender or mid/def
- ruck
- key forward
- mid sized marking forward

While we hardly need to go looking for one, I wouldn't say no to Kersten if he was available. I don't think our stocks are that deep, especially considering Darling may not end up a traditional key position player.

What we don't need:
- 3rd talls, either forward or back
- inside mids
- key defenders
- small forwards and ruckman (with our 2 ND picks anyway. we might take these types in the rookie draft).

With 18 and 40 we will take best available as long as he's not one of the above. Not particularly fussed if we don't take a key forward this year and there will be scarce quality left at our picks, I imagine.

So the end result will probably be 2 mids/flankers with nice skills.

Something like:
18: Docherty/Ellis/McKenzie
40: Ross/Sheridan

definitely don't speak for other Pie fans buy IMO we need:
- a mature backup for Jolly (prob addressed via PSD or Rookie)
- a replacement for Leigh Brown.
- and we can always use an extra pacy mid (not urgent)

I base this on immediate need rather than thinking long term

I've noticed alot of posters mentioning KPPs.

How deep and talented is the talent pool for KPPs, outside of Patton?

Feel free to correct me on anything:

Adelaide - A quality outside mid with good footskills/burst of speed. Liam Sumner if he's still available.

Brisbane - Getting Ben Hudson to the club hints that they want insurance for Leuenberger. Todd Elton or possibly Myles Bolger

Carlton - I think its pretty obvious they are lacking a key forward. Jackson Paine certainly fits the description.

Collingwood - They need a mobile ruckmen who has skills of a midfielder. Will get Jarrod Witts on scholarship.

Essendon - Essendon's interest in Caddy hints that they want an in and under midfielder to complement Watson. Mitchell Grigg, solidly built and would slot perfectly into their 22.

Fremantle - Possibly need a FF who can pluck a mark. Shane Kersten will add to their impressive forward line.

Geelong - No specific needs, but I think they could do with a crumbing forward. Devon Smith comes into calculations.

Suns - Anything

Hawks - Backline seems a little bit wobbly. Michael Talia won't be around at the Hawks first pick... Henry Schade anybody?

Melbourne - Every other year, I would say a FF who can take a grab and/or bring the ball to ground. However, with the recruitment of Mitch Clark, I think we should add to our midfield. Brad Hill is an option.

North Melbourne - Probably want a replacement for Brent Harvey. If he's not already snapped up by GWS, Toby Greene is an exact clone.

Port Adelaide - After an impressive trade week, I think their choice will be at mercy to whatever GWS picks first. Billy Longer/Chad Wingard/Will Hoskin Elliot probably.

Richmond - Their forward line and midfield is already mighty impressive. However, I do believe that their backline is expendable. Rance and McGuane seem to play their best footy as third talls. Michael Talia will be a handy addition.

Saints - Probably a ruckmen to support McEvoy. Callum Sinclair could play straight away.

Sydney - Classy half forward with silky skills. Crozier would be perfect but unlikely to last that long... Elliot Yeo is also an option.

West Coast - A relentless, I don't care about my safety midfielder to help out Matty Priddis at the clearances. Shane Nelson

Bulldogs - Inside outside midfielder in the Matthew Boyd mould. Clay Smith is literally identical. Loves a contest

This isnt the year for chasing talls but from reading this board it seems it is on the top of many clubs need according to their fans.

As for the roos Post Petrie - welcome A.Black been playing alright hasnt he in the VFL kicking a few bags?

2010 was a write off for him. OP and other associated injuries prevented him from playing much at all. Last year he was coming from a long way back fitness wise. He built slowly and ended up playing the last game. He looked at home out there.

Not sure he will ever be the Petrie replacement though. Will never be that big and physical. More an athletic tall forward type.

Lachie Hansen and Majak Daw are probably the 2 most likely Petrie replacements we have. But they're not in the same stratosphere yet.

Petries, Judds, Ablett, Goddards, Pendleburys dont come around every year though.

No they don't. And certainly not this year (for Petrie anyway).

Fingers crossed there is no rush and we can still get 3-4 years out of Drew. By then who knows where Hansen, Daw, Tarrant, Pedersen and Black will be.

But we went OK without Petrie in 2010 it must be said. Right now, forming a more solid defense and adding some polish to our midfield are more pressing concerns. Our forward line simply needs to improve its accuracy.

Best talent available at pick 24. Wouldn't hurt to have a ready-made player that could come straight into the 22, but a long term defensive prospect would be handy too.

Nup, last thing we need IMO. Already got Stokes and Byrnes plus Varcoe to try and fit in the best 22, plus Motlop who the coaches rate, plus Simpkin who is playing very well on the rookie list. Duncan and Christensen, while not small forwards, are also agile guys who will play through that forward area next year combining that with being part of the midfield rotation.

We need players to re-stock the defence, in particular another tall defender, but a couple of versatile medium defenders wouldn't go astray either. Could also use an inside mid to start developing for when Corey and Chapman hang them up. Definitely don't need small forwards.

Would a KPD be a priority for the Gold Coast? Sam Frost/Tomlinson may be considered?

Pies have a need for a ready to play tall forward.

Jack Anthony and Leigh Brown are both gone and if Dawes or Cloke miss a game our best option at this stage would probably be our big developing ruckman to fill the gap.

I wouldn't be totally against Fev as a rookie on minimum pay with plenty of clauses to sack him if he stuffs anything up.

I guess your right. Your backline is aging so adding a defender is probably more sensible then my previous proposal. In saying that, you are getting Jed Bews via F/S so I think that with your first pick, you would go for a tall defender to replace Matty Scarlett. Ben Darrou or Brody Mihocek are both quality options.

Pretty good effort DeeWong.

The Bombers need midfield class more than anything but yes, it would be preferable if we had another quality inside type. Grigg would seem to fit the bill, based on my non-exhaustive scouting. Greene probably better but probably gone?
