Been some discussion about how we have drafted, so let's have a look in retrospect.

If we rank the players comparing their draft order to their games played as an indicator (obviously excluding quality of performance).

2007
+6 Dangerfield (10th pick v 4th most games played)
-3 Otten (27 v 30)
-28 Jacky (30 v 58)
-11 Cook (38 v 49)
+21 Armstrong (58 v 37)
0 n/a Kite (71 v 61)
+56 Walker (75 NSW scholarship v 19)
+41 Total

Getting Walker was a bargain under the scholarship, making it a winning draft.

More to follow.

Edit: compared to the recent premiers we had a better draft.

Hawks
+7 Rioli 12 v 5
+4 Whitecross 29 v 25
+3 Dew 45 v 42
+14 Total

Cats
+16 Taylor 17 v 1
-6 D Simpson 34 v 40
-17 S Simpson 44 v 61
-11 McKenna 50 v 61
-1 Donohue 60 v 61

+30 Sloane (44 v 14)

-5 Lowden 63 v 68

Danger and Otten too great picks, Otten unfortunately crueled by injury.

Yes wasn't a pick, he was a gift, doesn't really count.

The rest were shit.

Nailed our early picks. Pity Gunston's best work has been for the Hawks. Martin a bargain late pick.

Sorry but I can't work this out.

Eg: -23 Joyce (46 v 79) which no. is the draft pick and which no. Is the games played? Considering he didn't play any.
As far as I can remember.

2012

-27 Siggins (62 v 89)

Joyce was pick #46 & played no games. 78 players have played a game, which makes him #79 games ranking.

Ps. Should be -33 not -23, which probably confused things.

Great return in the 2nd year of Tippett sanctions, particularly 2 great rookie selections. If Knight stays fit, he will be great value too.

That's very misleading Laird was drafted by Adelaide as a rookie in 2011
Then he was drafted in the national draft.

Feel free to come up with your own formula, but just showing our recruiters have done better than average with their picks.

Feel free to compare us to other sides like the Hawks or Bullies.

The team I am interested in watching is freo, they finished as a top team in 2015 and clearly tanked last year to gain some picks and quality to make another assault, not sure if it will work or not. If it does when are we doing it instead of always being competitive

Then he was drafted in the national draft.

Maybe count him in 2011, the year in which he was first drafted?

If the ND runs to 90 selections, the PSD 5, then the first selection of the RD is effectively #96 overall. Is this not a more accurate reflection of the club's drafting anyway?

Counting Laird as a 2011 selection would make 2011 a big win, not just on the back of Wright. On the other hand, it would significantly reduce the margin in 2013.

Or we could just compare how many flags each club has won recently.
Hawks = 4
Cats = 3
Bulldogs = 1
Adelaide = 0

Picking up workman like B graders from late picks doesnt tend to get you flags.

We have drafted above average which is why we are above average. Most are happy to be above average

If we have late picks that is all they can do, I am keen to watch Freo's strategy over the coming years after last years blatant tank
