Draft pick swap with WC

Why did we swap draft picks with WC? Someone might have answered this already but I dont have the time to look thru the threads

Coupled with the fact that we were extremely hesitant to part with pick 43 seems to indicate Hine has someone tucked away he's very keen on in that range.

I think from what I can tell that this sums it up.

We wanted to keep a pick in the 40's and to get Taz. WCE probably wanted to tuck their pick away for after the comprimised drafts to get better value out of the future draft pick.

Yeh I think you're right...which means that the Josh Fraser pick must have been higher than 46...

These recruiting guys get pretty scientific...someone should tell them that its more important to pick a good player when they get a pick - this is especially true to the WC recruiters who have been crap for a number of years.

We weren't going to use Pick 45 anyway...well, we would have on our F/S for Jacob Brennan but we can use a latter pick on that so it doesn't matter.

Goodwill trade I think, and one both of the clubs will benefit from.

With te amount of players lost we will be recruiting heavily in this draft albiet low numbers. Proberly to ensure it does not slip down to far. From West Coast prespective may have not much intrest in drafting around this number this year so gives them flexibilty in later drafts.

west coast want to save a pick for a future year

fraser pick was a third rounder. that means immediately after your pick in the 3rd round. for collingwood it would have been 61 or so. for west coast this year it would have been 46 or so. but for west coast in 2 years time it will be roughly 32-38 assuming they finish somewhere in the bottom 6. given what both clubs gave up in their view they both improved their draft position dramatically for specific drafts. good on the recruiters for spotting this loophole

edit: shit i meant for west coast to use it in 3 years time. i keep forgetting that the 2012 draft is comprimised

I like it. Probably a win for both sides as we've likely to be at opposite ends of the ladder for the next few years.

This year we've swapped pick 61 for 45. Depending on ladder positions/other compo picks the best it can be is pick 38 in two years time. For it to be better than 45 we'd have to finish bottom 8 and I don't see that happening soon.

Then there's the 2 year head start re development.

Im surprised about how much 'good will' there is between some clubs, not that I expect all clubs to be at each others throats all the time, but the way they carry on during the year...it's a bloody pantomime!

Incorrect. We have kept #45, and the deal was done after the Tarrant deal.

Really the only thing we lost in the Tarrant deal was pick #55, and we only picked that up in the Krakouer trade - It wasn't ours to begin with. The other pick was a downgrade of one spot from #43 to #44.

61 was the Fraser trade. We effectively traded 61 -> 45. I think that is a win!

As has been said very good move by West Coast and we were the lucky ones to have that comp pick.

West Coast look only likely to use picks 4, 26 (priority pick) & pick 28, along with the father/son pick which could be anything. So in effect they have an extra 3rd round pick to use over the next few years, along with an ealry pick in the pre-season draft.

We get a pick upgrade by 16? spots and it would be unlikely that the compo pick will ever get as low as 45. We'd basically have to miss the 8 between 2011 & 2014 and no priority picks and now use of other compo picks, for that to happen.

Now we just use 44,45 & 60 in this draft and upgrade some rookies.
