Prediction Draft tampering is allowed now and AFL is completely alright with it this season. (Good to know)

I wanted to punch Kane Cornes on SEN today going on about how Reid has every right to not want to go to West Coast and try to avoid being drafted there. When Healy argued that the draft would fall apart if every player in the first round started doing that Cornes basically ignored the concern, despite the fact last year there were around 4 or 5 players in the top 10 who were considered flight risks.

How can clubs rebuild if half of the top talent can refuse to go to said club, especially if that club isn't Victorian.

Why is it ok that kids from NSW and Queensland get to choose which club they go to but everyone else can't?

The only way that the draft will be fixed if the majority of kids takes this stance

All other things being equal, that'd seem to be more of an advantage to the SA/WA clubs and perhaps the NSW/Qld clubs down the road if the emergence of the Allies continues, rather than the Victorian clubs.

Ignoring players trade/draft wishes carries inherent risk.

Let's look at a couple of examples:

Josh Dunkley requested a trade to Essendon - Refused by the Bulldogs, he won the best and fairest the next year, but then still requested a trade to Brisbane.
Cam McCarthy requested a trade to Fremantle - Refused by GWS - Cam McCarthy simply refused to play for GWS at all the next season.

It's time that clubs are allowed to trade players if & when they want to without their consent.

It happens in all US sports and we are obsessed with following their leads.

The only caveat to that, the player being traded out must be in over a certain pay scale (to be determined). It would be grossly unfair to trade out a guy interstate on minimum wage.

I agree with you, but the players union here is simply too powerful for that to ever happen.

In an ideal world if players (esp first round draftees) want to go home, they should only be allowed to nominate a state and not a specific club (at least until they turn 25 and or eligible for free agency)

Tell the players union to * off then !!

They can't have it all their way, since coming to fruition, they have made it near impossible for clubs to operate.
