List Mgmt. Draft Watch 2015

Seeing as we all agree you should 'draft for talent, trade for needs' or 'take best available', I am a bit surprised to see so many 'if we take player X we shouldn't take player Y' comments. If Milera and Ah Chee are the best/most talented at our picks doesn't the best-available theory demand we take both?

This explains the purpose of why bidding is important to the draft integrity

AFL to 'come down terribly, terribly hard' on possible draft bidding collusion

If any clubs were colluding not to bid on players, we would come down terribly, terribly hard on that
AFL head of competition integrity Brett Clothier

THE AFL will closely monitor where star academy prospects attract bids at this month's NAB AFL Draft, but the League is confident they will come at picks that reflect their talent.

Many recruiters rate midfielders Mills, Hopper and Kennedy inside the first five or six players in this year's draft pool, but a number of clubs fear bids may not be placed on the highly rated players until deeper into the draft.

You think you are the only one on here that has a brain and that thinks pick 13 is still an important 1st round pick, were are all not thick, everyone knows this.

You are carrying on like a tool and are melodramatic and having read your posts it seems to be a common theme.

About time you got your head out of your bum..................
Ease up turbo no need to smack him down. Everyone has their opinions.

But collusion was all a-ok when MelTank did it with GWS/Gold Coast to score Viney for a second rounder. Nothing in that at all:rolleyes:.

Viney probably a second round player in hindsight though. Hard to tell with Melbourne though he could be better at a good Club

I'm confused as to why teams would bother bidding for academy players like Mills, Hopper or Kennedy. What's the point? GWS, Sydney and Brisbane have willingly traded down and stockpiled a bunch of later picks as currency so that they can trade them for when a team bids on their players.

So then why should other teams bother bidding if these academy teams will be able to get these players anyway? What difference does it make if Mills goes at 33 for Sydney? If anything, it also bumps the later draft up as well, as teams like Sydney will start passing earlier because they intended to use all those picks to bid for academy players, not on new players.

And I also find it annoying that our Pick 9 will be bumped down so that he won't be in that top 10 photo. Seems like we'll never get a true top 10 pick.
So more good players are available in the pool later on obviously

We have more KPDs than you think - whether you choose to rate them or not. Talia, Hartigan, Lever, Otten, Shaw. That's 5. Cheney isn't KPP height, but is often used as a 3rd tall defender.
.
Seriously Vader, you have to stop classifying Otten and Shaw as KPD's.

Particularly Otten. He'd get destroyed and rag dolled by any half decent Key Forward. In fact he can't even contain the decent 3rd talls.

Tell that to the selectors, because that's the role he has consistently played when selected.

Shaw has been played in a key defender role around half the time. The other half he's been a 'third tall' defender.

But I agree Otten is not really a KPD, more a utility

Well, we're in a position we wouldn't normally find ourselves in having two 1st round picks. So you can probably give yourself a few more scenarios to play around with. Still go with "best available at 9", but then you can either repeat that again at 13, or decide with the extra pick you go "OK, we drafted player X who plays at this position, so we can now go and find a guy who can fill position Y, since we need someone there". Obviously the key is that if you do decide to fill a position of need he still needs to be rated at around the pick and talent of what you'd get if you went best available, so don't just reach for a guy for who's rated as pick 25-30 just for the sake of filling a need.

Since when? I'm sure the last time he played we had Rutten and Talia both running around - he wasn't playing as a KPD.
He's played consistently as a 3rd tall defender. When he wasn't playing as our #1 KPF, ahead of LJ (Tex & JJ injured at the time).

Are you aware that a third tall defender isn't a KPD as you stated :)
He'd be 2nd tall defender, a KPD position, if Talia or Hartigan go down. He's been retained because of his ability to play that role if/when required.

You really don't watch much football do you, or is it just that you've got a very short memory?
Lol your the one stating Otten is a Key position defender!
It's like saying (our) Tom Lynch is a Key position forward :)

He is a third tall/rebounding defender fyi - do you get foxtel in Canberra? :p He did fill in as a part time second ruck/forward for half a season but you probably only know that because I told you last week!
