ESSENDON

Draft picks: 6, 7, 8, 44, 77, 85, 87

Father-Son/Academy prospects: Cody Brand, Josh Eyre

With three selections inside the top 10, the Bombers will be eyeing off a number of classy prospects. The Bombers are likely to put the feelers out to get higher up the board, but at Pick 6 they might be lucky enough to snare South Australian Riley Thilthorpe. The tall is in the mix for Pick 1, but could well find his way to the Bombers if the draft falls the way some scouts predict. A groin injury curtailed the end of his season, but his mobility up forward for West Adelaide suggests he has all the traits to be a key figure inside 50 for an AFL club. He has the ability to play through the ruck, he leads up the ground when required and his marking and goalkicking is very good. He would be the perfect player for Essendon to build a forward line around.

From Matt Balmer

BRB going to be physically ill

Riley Thilthorpe if he slips is a genuinely great option. I don't see him going further than Hawthorne admittedly but would be a great option.

But when they talk about groin, are they meaning OP? I’m not keen on that.

Although, you’d think our med/fitness team will have a pretty good idea about the implications.

Yes, but the thing is we have 3 picks. It's completely different to trading up to get a McDonald.

The guy is top 3 on talent comfortably and fills a massive need. If he slips to pick 6 it would be negligence not to take him IMO

I don’t mind us taking Thilthorpe if we are keeping all 3 picks
Thilthorpe
Perkins
Cox/Reid

now that would be a haul
I genuinely don't think we need Cox or Reid if Riley slips.

Dodoro would be really sticking out his chin after Gumbleton and Joe.

I dont understand what selecting thilthorpe has to do with Cox or Reid (Thilthorpe goes 1 anyway imo). Cox or Reid are much better prospects and id happily select either of them and pass on Brand.
I think it's important to realise we have more than one area of need. Is it a risk to go with 1 KPP and two mids (say Perkins and O'Driscoll or Bruhn)? Yes it is but when we have two KPP prospects later in the draft and someone like Thilthorpe slips, we can afford to spread our options.

As I said if Thilthorpe slips through I’d rather have Reid/Cox aswell over another mid. Next draft is stacked with elite midfielders and not many talls, why wouldn’t we sure up our tall stocks now. It’s not like we aren’t getting any mids if we draft Perkins. We have zero young tall depth on our list it should be our number 1 priority. Also we just traded in Caldwell who is moreorless just a 1st round mid.

Zerk, Draper, Jones, McBride, Bryan plus potentially 3 more KPP's as 23 or under come round 1 next year is quite a bit of young tall depth actually

Hey eDPS

What is the deal with the Alex Davies pick at 11 for GoldCoast? Is it an automatic selection?
That’s my personal ranking, yep he goes onto their list for free

Draper and Byran are rucks, yes Bryan has been played in defense but he’s a beautiful tap ruckman. Bzt jury out on - he was a late pick anyway. Jones yes but is he really going be a bonified key forward - not sure. McBride is Irish who knows if he even makes the grade. Not a lot of highly talent young talls on the shelf.

This has been to stop clubs from stockpiling late draft picks with the intention of only using them to pay for highly rated draftees, even if they had more picks at the draft than they had list spots available, which was an early loophole of the live bidding system.

But clubs will not be bound by that rule at next month's national draft after the League gave clearance for clubs to use points from draft picks even if they are not going to use the selections to draft players.

In essence it means that the Swans, who will be forced to match bids for Academy pair Braeden Campbell and Errol Gulden, could theoretically take six picks to the draft but only pick up three players, but use the remaining selections for points purposes.

What the honest **** is going on there what a joke
