It sounds like there might be a number of decent ruck prospects (saw that on a youtube video from Knightmare / Chris Doerre ESPN).
For our list though we could really do with:
1) Midfielders for 2021 (we have too many injuries) - this is kind of the short term approach
2) Small forwards
3) Small defenders

I'd personally be happy to take any standout small forwards or defenders - as I think even a decent quality player could easily be on our list in future years and make a real impact.
If we drafted a midfielder I reckon they might play games this year and then be scrapped when we have Shiel, Caldwell + our first pick (almost definitely a midfielder) this year all available next year.
I don't see the point with rucks - Phillips is performing well as depth, Bryan is nearly there and already capable at AFL level and Draper should be just about back by the time the midseason draft rolls around. Plus Wright is pretty solid as ruck depth as well. That's seems like enough to me.

I'd prefer to focus on youngsters with upside than more mature role players. You can fill in role players later on, we need as many shots at talent as possible.
Not convinced we have one between Reid and Brand?
+McBride
And that assumes BZK and Stewart fail. We've got a lot of tall back options at the moment.

I would think another Ruck, Lock Down Small Defender, big bodied midfielder and a small forward

would be my shopping list
Personally would love a midfielder in the MSD (and a ruck). If we have 3 picks then take a second mid.
Why ruck? We have Bryan & Draper developing towards both being legitimate #1 options, and Wright as a relief ruck in games (and stop-gap for injuries). We really only need one more as depth, a role Phillips can play for many years to come. I would think ruck is near the bottom of our needs.

From our list we can lose
Cahill
Mozzie
Phillips if we pick up a midseason ruck and he goes past him
Clarke
Gleeson
Zaharakis
Cutler
Hooker if he wants to retire hope not
Johnson doesn't look like he will make it (re-rookie if we need)
Hird doesn't look like he he will make (re-rookie if we need)
I'm not sure why Phillips is on the list, he's perfectly good as our depth ruck. On Cahill, he's been amongst our best in the last two VFL matches playing as a full time midfielder. He’s had 21 and 23 disposals the two weeks and around 5 marks & 5 tackles per game. He’s been our third highest disposal getter in both games (one win, one loss). Playing both in the clearances and as link-up. He's looking quite promising given its only his second year.

Also, Clarke and Gleeson are rookies, and Hird is a Cat B rookie. We've really only got Zaharakis & Cutler as "obvious" senior delistings/retirements, with a few maybes as other options. I wouldn't be surprised if Johnson is moved to the rookie list. Although I believe Snelling is still on the rookie list and this is his third year, so he'll have to be promoted to the senior list. Johnson/Snelling could be a straight swap.

That said, MSD picks can fill the rookie spots Gleeson & Clarke give up.

Because Phillips is consistently injured, regardless of how you rate him, and therefore inadequate as the depth ruck.

TBH who are we shopping for? Are we going to look @ Nigel? Trew? Maher? maybe Walsh?
I say pin the tail on the donkey and nab who wants to come to us.

In the last 6 years, most of the players we have drafted after pick 50 of note have been players that would be availiable in a MSD. There are very few exceptions.

Mitch Brown (mature age)
Michael Hartley (mature age)
Anthony McDonald-Tipungwuti (mature age)
Dylan Clarke (junior)
Sam Draper (junior)
Zerk-Thatcher (19-year-old)
Matt Guelfi (mature age)
Brayden Ham (19-year-old)
Ned Cahill (junior)

I guess in my mind the question is:

Do we want to pick MSD eligible types in June or November?
Matt's only 23 now and has been with us for 3 seasons, so when picked was barely 20. Hardly mature age if Ham & Zurk were 19.😂😂👍

My point is that 6/9 players were eligible for the MSD in the year that we drafted them. 19-year-olds are just a sub category of mature age, so I probably should have labeled all the 19-year-old recruits as mature age.

Remind me again - if we take a player in the MSD - is their contract length 6 mths or 18 mths?
up to player to nominate how long

Tyrone throne is one we could go for, dominating in the wafl and fits a need with mozzie most likely done.
He is playing in the WAFL vs SANFL game, we could learn a lot. His WAFL numbers are incredible for a 19-year-old.

Anyone watching Brisbane vs Gold Coast right now? Brisbane have some interesting prospects on their VFL list.

Zane Trew is with West Coast.

Andy is a midfielder. He was drafted as a midfielder, averaging 32 touches in his TAC cup year. He also had 38 touches (21 contested) and 8 clearances in the granny for sandy. He is a ******* midfielder. Stop saying that he should play in defense he legit had 12 clearances on the weekend the kid is a gun. He's only 22, and already one of our best mids. Just because he had a couple of average games (by his own standards) doesn't mean he should be moved to half back. Yes his disposal efficiency isn't amazing but not many inside midfielders are too good in that category, let alone 22 year old ones, playing in their second season in the midfield (the first being last year where he was one of our most consistent players before he was rubbed out for the season with syndesmosis). Their job is just to get it out of the pack and give it to the likes of Merrett.
Half of yous need to shut up with this nonsense about moving him back, we don't have enough defensive mids as it is, let alone good ones. Him parish, Merrett, caldwell and Perkins are setting up a very very high quality and classy centre bounce mix in the future for the first time in a very long time.

Only read 4 words of your post. Gavin Wanganeen was a midfielder also, won a brownlow as a backman in a premisrship year?

I love how people have 20/20 vision and yet wonder why we still fail to match it with the powerhouses of today.

It's one of those things where the individual parts are fine, but don't mesh together that well. Whereas the good midfields are more than the sum of their parts.

I don't know too many that would say Hugh Greenwood is a 'better' individual player than Merrett, Shiel, McGrath, Parish et al. But our midfield would work a hell of a lot better with him at stoppages.
