My personal preference is Ryley Stoddart as a medium/running defender and if we have another pick then see.

I am keen to see how Gregory Clark (193cm, 94kg mid from Subiaco) goes in the WAFL vs SANFL game tomorrow

Greg Clarks stat line was pretty good without watching. 23 and a goal in a losing side

Still only 23 years old and at that size as a midfielder

We aren’t going to take players just to increase the numbers we have. There arent that many players out there that are afl standard with potential that also fit list needs. We already grabbed 2 in the top up period. Thorne and Green interest me, that’s about it.

There aren't many 19 year old mids (non AFL listed) outperforming him at this stage. Tyrone Thorne is, Will Tasker might be and Toby Triffett is performing at a similar level. He also looks pretty good on the eye test.

I actually think there are quite a few players with AFL potential out there. I disagree with the assessment that the options are shallow from what I have seen.

No point grabbing a couple of players if they're not going to either plug a short term hole in the list or are shaping up to be a long term prospect.

Like we could grab a couple of midfielders but if they're going to be worse than Cahill and Zaharakis in the guts then what's the point?

We need a small forward, big bodied mid and probably a lock down small forward

Surely there is a couple of free hits in this draft

I think we should think about targeting the academy and father/sons that are available.

We might not have a shot at Lambert, Green, Reville, Tasker, Abberley or Triffett in November if they are wanted. Now or never for some of them.

Yeah, every VFL game I’ve watched he just does something that makes you scramble for the record to check who #53 for Essendon is.

Surely he is an upgrade on Gleeson

You’d almost have 2 lists, state leaguers and kids who missed out last year.

I can’t really say more than ‘I like the sound of him’ about the kids but from what I’ve seen from the state leaguers the ones that can really help us and should be around the mark would be Atley, Will Fordham from Franga (bigger, sturdier body than Freeman but less prolific) Bunker or Lentini from Coburg and Manteit and maybe Jacob Dawson.

Yes a lot of them are guys that have been previously cut from lists but they seem to have all gone back to the well and become very different footballers to what they were.

No doubt about that for me. I like Conforti too but need to see more.

It would be insane for anyone who is chance to get drafted to wait until the national draft. Injury or form slump could be right around the corner and you’ve missed your chance.

I was thinking the same thing.

I suppose player might not want to gamble on not having a spot next year but it seems to me to be easier to stay on a list than to get on one.

The list of players we could take that would be better than Cahill, Johnson and Zaharakis as mid would be, hmm, 30 to 40 players long.

I've been watching VFL mids belt the piss out AFL mids for far too long to believe the talent pool is as shallow as the stagnate list management suggests it is.

Fordham was so big I legit thought he was Frankston's ruckman for a second.
