is that fact though or lazy journalism as per usual? I thought we had 2 available with the possibility of 3.

Happy to be corrected but we are yet to add anyone this year, the spot is because McQuillan retired, Waterman was able to be added because we passed on a pick at the rookie draft to retain a bit of flexibility and Shiel, Hurley are yet to be added to the inactive list officially although they could be. Baldwin is for Mozz.

I believe Mozzie has already been added.

McQuillan was the Cat B rookie so I don’t think that makes any space at all - mid season should be Cat A I think?

And even Mozzie I don’t think is on the “inactive” list yet. Usually they announce it. He’d be the obvious one though.

Simply having a long term injury isn’t enough, and the inactive list is virtually permanent for the rest of the season so you don’t do it unless you have to.

Yeah I quick edited, Mozz LTI and passing at the rookie draft allowed us to add Baldwin and Waterman.

We’re actually quite fortunate because we had we flipped the Irishmen around and cat A listed McBride and then McQuillan left we would have one less spot. From what I can tell that was nothing more than a coin flip for admin purposes

Are you sure McBride is Cat B? I thought we signed McQuillan first 🤔🤔

I think in the end he was the Category A player and McBride the Category B.

If McQuillan was Cat B and Mozzie wasn't on the inactive list we wouldn't have been able to sign Baldwin.

Yep.

Yep.
All of the articles I can find say McQuillan was category B. Maybe there was a loophole when he retired to move McBride to the B list? 🤔

I think so but I guess I’m assuming, I figured that because you can only have one Irish cat B one of them would have to be cat A and if the Cat B left you wouldn’t get the opportunity to replace them, but maybe I’m understanding it incorrectly and as soon as McQuillan retired McBride just moved to being the cat B

Probably not worth overthinking to be honest.

Re Greg Clark, people already don’t like Kyle Langford, we don’t need more of that but worse

Either way, Baldwin wouldn't be on the list if McBride was Cat A and Mozzie wasn't on the inactive list. So one has to be true

Both look like good pick ups, anyone know why they've been overlooked in previous drafts ?
Baker never got picked up because of the NEAFL. AFL teams don't trust NEAFL form. His teamate Tom Highmore was drafted after his first year in the SANFL.

Clark was an outside mid with a mediocre tank, spent some time outside the midfield at Subiaco because they were a very strong midfield group. Has developed into an inside mid now and built his tank up.

Averaging 26 disposals a game this year is pretty solid. One I'd be okay with drafting.
5.6 marks a game spiked my interest.
To be honest I had not really remembered him from his draft year until I had a look at my champ notes from that season (must be getting old). He was very much an outside player back then. Lots of run but not much contested stuff and one knock was he did not progress a lot in his under 18 year. Was pretty highly rated in his under 16 year . Kicking was not great either was another thing I had noted. Looks like he has changed that a bit now.

Interesting that O'Kearney who was the same draft as Clark has been doing some good stuff for us in the VFL the last couple of games.
Snelling as well.

Trudgeon 36 touches, 14 tackles and a goal.

Liam Conway 26, 9 tackles and a goal.

It’s looking like we might well go for Baker for a bit of run and carry off a wing but if it was up to me I’d be taking one of those two.

Baldwin and Waterman have filled the vacancy we kept at the draft and McQuillan's spots. So our list is full, barring long term injuries. We could put one Irish kid on the Cat B, one on the Cat A. We put the tall who would (theoretically) take longer on the Cat B and McQuillan on the Cat A. Remembering that in 2019 & 2020 you needed a LTI to play a Cat B, but Cat A rookies could play anytime.

So we'll have one pick for Mozzie. More if anyone else is put on the inactive list.

What does everyone think of James Peatling? He has been great for GWS VFL off half-back this season. Good mover, good kick, pretty good in marking contests and is tough. An all-rounder like him would be good for us with our list position.

If you have a chance watch the last quarter of GWS vs PM. He was a big reason GWS held on.
