Match Preview: Gold Coast SUNS vs. Fremantle Dockers

A very unwise man once said 'boy oh boy, wowee'. While we don't endorse the anti-intellectualism of the originator of this particular statement, we can identify with the sentiment on this occasion.

A grand final fit for kings. Two teams who are yet to achieve the ultimate success in the inferior 'AFL' world. Two teams who have played with spirit and courage all e-AFL season, keeping their legions of fans engaged and entertained.

Take a look at these two men very carefully. Look at one, then the other. Then look at the first one again. And so on.

Because come Saturday night, one of these two men will be holding the e-AFL premiership cup aloft, and planning a night of e-debauchery.

With everything at stake, who will emerge victorious? Tune in to find out at 7:30pm on Saturday night.

PREVIEW

The SUNS
needed to face their 'home ground demons' when taking on the Kangaroos at Metricon last outing, but came through the test with flying colours. Touk Miller responded strongly to his lacklustre first finals outing, enjoying 28 touches and applying 8 tackles against a tough Roos midfield. After collecting 17 handballs and just 3 kicks in a match earlier in the season, Hugh Greenwood showed his flexibility by collecting 22 kicks and 8 handballs in his preliminary finals outing. Ben King (5 goals 4 behinds) was once again dominant up forward, but had an able support cast via Sam Day and Sam Flanders, each of whom kicked 4 goals.

The Dockers, meanwhile, trailed for most of the day against the highly-fancied Magpies at Optus Stadium before sneaking over the line by 3 points in a high-scoring and tense encounter. The match gave the platform for young Adam Cerra to play a breakout game, notching up 30 possessions, 7 marks and 1 goal. Rory Lobb, meanwhile, was the most dominant player on the ground - 18 hitouts, 30 possessions, 3 tackles and 2 crucial goals. The Dockers showed consistent class across the ground, and their winning form poses a formidable threat to the SUNS.

KEY MATCH-UPS

Touk Miller vs. Nat Fyfe

This column hasn't been able to get enough Touk Miller in our lives, and we were once again shown why we worship at the altar of Touk. The tough SUN was brutal inside and outside the contest and will cause headaches for the Fremantle midfield unit. Fyfe, meanwhile, played second fiddle to an emerging cast of Dockers midfielders, yet still managed 22 possessions and a goal against the Pies - regardless he'll be looking to step up for this match. The winner of this midfield contest will be critical to the outcome of the game.

Jarrod Witts vs. Rory Lobb
Jarrod Witts (or 'Wittsy' as we know him) has had one of the all-time e-AFL seasons. He's done it all - possessions, hitouts, goals, DT points - and is in the frame for an e-Brownlow. However, standing in his way is a strapping young George McFly lookalike who had a pretty dang decent match of his own last week against Brodie Grundy. Rory Lobb is the talk of the town this week after he almost single-handedly dragged the Dockers into the grand final - can he be a giant SUN killer?

Prediction - e-AFL will definitely be the winner on the day, but to be more precise we're backing the SUNS to win by 15 points.

Captains please have your team submitted by 11.59pm on Friday

Well it is game day and the e-AFL World is agog.

The derided Freo and the 'who are they' Suns have both been revelations this e-season.

I've already got the Shinboner stock gently bubbling away. Gonna make a sunny consomme with the stock and serve with Sth Melbourne Dimmies.

My tip is the Suns will prevail. Roll on the game!
