Firstly i would like to say i admire the free flowing, running creative style of your team and look forward to the game between us later this season.
But here's a hypothetical trade for you. Seaby+Mackenzie+2nd rounder for Richmond first pick (4-9) + J. ON?
Seaby is a ready made ruckman who is out of form ATM, but has already proven himself but is still young at 24. Would be an ideal backup/longterm replacement for simmonds.
Mackenzie is a young rebounding KP backman who was very highly rated both before and after the draft. He is getting BOG performances consistently for Claremont (one of the best WAFL sides). His rebounding nature and his ability to play on the wings and swing forward would make him ideal for your playing style. He turned 20 last week and can't get a game for us because of the very promising performances of wilkes, schofield and spangher who all play KP back.
our 2nd pick should be around 22 or so and it is a fairly deep draft so you should be able to get some good talent there.

You guys are really emerging and with the performances of foley, deledio, cotchin, riewoldt etc, you ahouls really start thinking about ways to instantly improve the team to assure you are a finals force.

So Seaby+Mackenzie+2nd rounder for pick 4-8+J.ON?

nah i dont think so

we wouldnt lose picks 4-8 and we definitely wouldnt get rid of JON to another club only we can delist him no one else

Seaby would be good but thats too high a price to pay

Mackenzie has alright form, but he is something we already have, a rebounder, we have plenty of HBF rebounders at our club and could do with a culling of about 3-4 of them, also we have a few KP backmen that we are persisting with and getting results from in McGuane, Moore, Thursfield and Schulz.

Seaby would help out in the short term with the ruck, but I think the problem with Seaby is that he is only ever going to be a second ruckman, it isn't hard to look alright in the ruck when you have the best in the league in front of you leading the way, and you don't trade for a back up ruckman.

Also as much as many would like to see JON moved on he is still only 20yo and could literally be anything, lets not also forget JON was a Top 10 pick, also JON is being groomed as a CHB/Rebounder.

So basically we would be giving away 2 Top 10 picks, for a player which we have many of, a back up ruckman and a down graded pick.

So the answer would be no.

Last bite at the top echelon players in the draft for the next few years so I can't imagine many teams giving up first round picks. We need to use our first round pick on the best tall 195cm foward available

I owuld think that 1st round picks would be untouchable given that this is the last of the pure drafts. In my opinion we are only one more good draft away from being a finals side next season.
I'd like to see us hang onto out first two picks this year and use them wisely.

Sily suggestion beatlesmith. Not a chance in hell that would happen....

Spot on on both counts.

Can't really see us trading away our top picks, but because of the next few drafts being compromised, and also because of the state of our list..

What we have is a finals side. This year we should come close, but next year we should be that bit better.

How high in the finals we go, and how long we stay there are still question marks, but there is hope.

The past few years, we've drafted the best players we can, because we needed quality everywhere. This year, finally, we can draft for need & depth.

That might sound like a reason to trade, but unless there is some real quality out there ( ie, walk up top-5 player ), there isn't much point as there aren't any major holes to fill. ( some might say KF, but I still have hope two of Putt, Pattison, Polak, Schulz, Hughes, Riewoldt & Gourdis will step up ).

A couple of 'decent/average' depth players just wont cut it.

Good post.
I'd hope we have learned from the 'topping up' that was employed so successfuly by Spud the Dud. Let's build a side that will contest the finals series for five consecutive years rather than making a prelim once every 12 years and then disappearing off the radar again.

nah we'll be right.

no point in trading a great backup ruckman, a promising defender and a 2nd rounder.

ya seriously kidding, if the eagles did agree to that it would surely be a sign the kids nothing more than a lumbering average Ben holland style KPP..No more or less..NO THANKS

yes.....kennedy is like ben holland....idiot.

Jon wont be going anywhere
he is starting to play good footy or he was until he hurt his arm
if he didnt get injured last week he would of been promoted to that essendon game and not just beacuse it was dreamtime

and we dont want seaby
and we are supposed to be targeting warnock from freo

Another bogus trade that doesn't really favour either side. Richmond have a policy of always retaining a first round pick so we would only ever downgrade to a high 1st rounder.
