Re: Malceski to GWS ?

I just read the Swans season review, dunno how much to make of it but it says Malceski who suffered his third knee injury and played out the season with groin issues, with a good pre-season should be back to his best next year, no hint of him leaving.

Re: Malceski to GWS ?

Malceski doesn't fit the GWS profile. They're going for young guns and grabbing whatever retirees they can find. Rohan, Reid, Parker & Johnson will be their targets for next year.

Re: Malceski to GWS ?

Sounds like people just looking for reasons why he wasn't in the team.

I'd say he was definitely carrying a niggling injury. If GWS was a done deal I doubt we'd have seen him come back into the side or named as emergency.

And as AlibiMonday stated... He doesn't fit the profile.

Re: Malceski to GWS ?

GWS will be chasing Reid very hard along with his brother at Collingwood and if they had made Malceski an offer they may have withdrawn it after his third knee operation.

Gold Coast and GWS seem to announce signings after the players teams have been eliminated and with no announcement yet i would suggest its only a rumour.

Its up on the official Swans site now. :thumbsu:

I read an article in the paper on the w'end, it was Pendles interviewing Ben Reid, one question got me revved up a bit..

Pendles: Would you like to play alongside your brother Sam at the Pies?
Ben Reid: Yes very much and it doesnt matter where..

(or words to that effect)

They are NOT just going for young guns, Power, Macdonald, Brogan and Cornes just to name 4 !.

You don't think Power, McDonald, Brogan and Cornes fit into the 'whatever retirees they can find' bracket?

Re: Malceski to GWS ?

He's contracted until the end of 2012 so the only way they can sign him is if we trade him, leaving us still vulnerable to GWS poaching Reid.

If you want a good laugh go have a look at the carlton board!:D

They think they'll be bringing Reid to their club and one offer is Setanta, Lucas and their 2nd rounder for him!

They won't be getting Sam Reid, but getting Kane Lucas from them won't be too bad, but they can **** Setanta O'hAilpin off to somewhere else though, his name always comes up as trade bait for us after the season, surely they must get tired of suggesting that trade?

Pretty sure Reid is contracted until end 2012 as well. Still a chance to lose him next year. Would like to see a contract hit the table early next year. Give him whatever he wants, we should have the space available.

Re: Brendan Fevola?

The case for and against Sydney taking a punt on Fevola
http://www.smh.com.au/afl/afl-news/...t-on-fevola-20110918-1kg2n.html#ixzz1YNiLQFid

IF SYDNEY coach John Longmire inherited Paul Roos's ''no ********s'' recruiting policy, then it's highly unlikely such a move would ever happen, but humour me just for a moment as we talk about Brendan Fevola.

It would perhaps be the biggest gamble the club has taken, but let's not slam the door just yet.

I can't believe i am saying this but i am almost warming to the idea of Fevola at the Swans. Like the article mentioned he would take the pressure of Reid for a year or two and allow him proper time to develop and Fevola would also generate a lot of publicity for the Swans, publicity we really do need considering next year GWS will be entering the competition.

I don't think opposition supporters realise just how valuable Reid is to the Swans. I honestly think he is the most promising 19 year old the Swans have had since Adam Goodes and keeping Reid is crucial for our forward line for the next decade.

To me i honestly think Sam Reid is as valuable to us as Chris Judd was to West Coast back when Carlton were sniffing around a few years ago. In fact Reid might be more important to us as West Coast still had Kerr and Cousins when Judd left. If Reid left our forward line would be the weakest in the competition and it would mean we wouldn't have a hope of making the top 4.

Q.Would you like to play at some stage with Sam?

A.Yeah, I think in a perfect world I would love to play with him.

Q.At Collingwood of course.

AThe way footy is these days, it's pretty hard to get where you are or where he is.

haha thats the one, my wishful thinking might have got the better of me the way I remembered it. At least he didnt give an emphatic "Yes, at Collingwood"... Ill take that as a win in a warped kinda way. :p

Re: Brendan Fevola?

Fev is not the answer, yes a specialist full forward would certainly have helped but it's the delivery coming in that needs to improve. If we bomb it in like we did against the Hawks not even Fev at his best could have stopped Josh Gibson spoiling.

Apart from that, no, no and no. Part of the reason we were so successful with Barry Hall in the team in 2005-06 was that even Barry toed the line and bought into the Bloods culture, even if he went back to his old self afterwards hehe. I don't know if Fev has the same fire in the belly anymore. If he's more interested in partying off field then it's probably not going to be a success. He might kick a few bags of goals but I don't think he's the guy who's going to get us closer to a premiership.

Re: Brendan Fevola?

At the start of this thread I suggested that it could work as it would give our kids a bit of freedom to develop because he would take the number one defender etc.
Im under no illusion that he would be a risk, but if it failed? Big deal, it would just mean bums on seats in Canberra and I think we have enough senior players with great ethics to not let him lead our kids astray if Fev went that way, in fact Im confident we could pull him into line, he wants to prove people wrong and a bloke like Fev that would be dangerous for defenders, he is on a mission!
Fev is not a bad bloke, just a big silly kid with a good heart and a drinking problem.

Nothing to lose except maybe a spot on the list for a kid, ok, thats a fair enough argument but in the short term (30ish?)he still offers more than most kids.

My comments at the start of the thread were when I thought he wanted/needed to stay in Melbourne, things have changed since then as he has since said he didnt care if he played interstate and would play for base wage.
Alot of upsides, 2011 we an averaged 12 goals a game, worst since South relocated to Sydney, Fev could help with that.
