I would think that clubs that have loaded up and overpaid for glory For a long time will struggle to field a side this year
Ask your players to play for zero or u already no the answer and now go the high moral ground and put it down to safety
Stick to the course and play homegrown for majority of your side and success will come
For the clubs that are in that position good luck to u all

Very hard for clubs like Roxy, Tulla, EK, APW and Taylors lakes to play majority of homegrown talent in senior footy when the reality of these clubs are that their juniors have played low grades over a long period of time which means they will play a lot of reserves / thirds footy over a long period of time which has its benefits but not as beneficial as having your juniors playing A grade footy, Hillside probably the best placed div 1 club with most of their junior first teams in div 1, Roxy under 17s last year finished last or second last in div 4 or 5, that’s your next crop of 1 pointers, how can you blood them kids?

But the ones that do will be playing for the love of the game/team. That still exists in spite of all the talk otherwise.

And if it takes combining the two Div.s to make 1 as suggested then so be it. Great idea!!

Lets play footy, lets not complicate it more than it is. The juniors are going to play. And if the seniors play it
will be for the same reasons the kids do...For the joy of playing and mateship.

Don’t worry about EK and APW, Tulla also have players coming they just haven’t lodged clearances yet as no point untill season officially is starting.
I know of 3 players that have committed at Tulla that will defiantly get tounges wagging and for the record all playing for FREE

You might as well just admit your the coach of EK with your rambling I highly doubt there is an email going round saying we don’t want to play because ek and apw will be too good maybe some clubs just aren’t stupid enough to pay blokes a truckload for a 9 game no relegation or promotion season because let’s be honest everyone here knows the big names are getting payed

Problem is clubs are paying players money. APW are paying sign ons to their new recruits. Just ask them if you get the chance. Wouldn’t surprise if tulla and EK are doing the same.

I’m sure as a footy person you can see where people are coming from on this topic. Season in doubt and with the financial problems ALL leagues with the clubs blessings have said no match payments and 0 salary cap. Then we hear of “big name” recruits coming into clubs. Surely you can see that other footy followers and clubs will be raising eyebrows. Yes it could be put down as being proactive but also could be seen as being arrogant and “up yours” attitude to the league, opposition clubs and footy in general.

let’s remember this also, and be real.
-With Covid19 and so many people being unemployed a player (Currently our of work) could be inticed with a money offer. Most people would probably say yes if struggling.
-If you have a good job where you are out in the field would you want to risk it by playing a part season for no payments if you are usually paid to play?
-Others might just want to run around with mates and do something rather than be bored. But hey there is risks involved.

Most on here probably believe that certain recruits were offered a figure of say 10k to come across and play 8-9 games plus maybe finals. If the season doesn’t get started you keep the 10k otherwise you play and this covers your season payments. It might be to cover some players on your list who don’t want to commit this season. It could be a master stroke to getting players into your club (although it’s really outside the laws) however it’s risky as you might lose your $$. At one point a few coaches were confident of getting a season up but it’s in major doubt as of yesterday afternoon. It’s changing each day so it’s a risky move.

Another scenario could be that in 2021 the current coach might be leaving so now is the perfect time to get a player in who might be looking to coach in season 2021. Cant see Pat stepping aside but maybe Bongetti is looking to get into coaching so he brings in Dennis. Just a far stretched observation of a club looking forward not back.

Surely the nail was just hammered into the EDFL’s now farcical attempt to get a 9 week 2020 corona cup up and going.

Dan Andrews and Brett Sutton CHO of Victoria just announced 25 cases today another big jump and community transmissions.

Due to this they are now winding back:

• Family Gatherings allow 5 visitors down from 20.
  
  
• Public gatherings now less than 10 instead of going up to 50 as expected today.

Dan Andrews cites local council areas with the highest cases as possible targets for local stay at home shut down orders as “hotspots” they were:

• Brimbank
• Hume
• Moreland

The EDFL board will now surely pull the pin on this mess.

And clubs would be foolish to invest their time and money towards such an uncertain environment where the government is getting more restrictive not relaxing especially in the EDFL catchment

Nobody said they didn't want to play EK and APW stop making up rubbish. I just don't understand why clubs are recruiting POST covid-19 to get new players in for a season where you can get promoted... why bother?

Of course all clubs have recruited but since covid-19 very few have chased new players. No issues with clubs building better lists, just don't understand doing it AFTER it was announced the season would be compromised and nobody promoted.

Each to their own and good luck to anyone who does decide to play. RPFC have made their decision for their reason and NOBODY on here is privy to club finances, volunteer numbers or anything else so should just say "That's their decision, I don't agree"

Well haven’t posted for a while but this one caught my attention UTR, in particular the comments about the email going around, totally understand the players point of view for not playing with risk for work commitments ETC, ETC.. , I wish them all the best.

I was well aware of this email that went around with 6 of the 8 div 1 clubs not wanting to play against EK + APW, bit of a throwing the toys out of the cot situation if you ask me. My question to you is how are EK + APW making a joke of the comp? By signing players? Roxy haven’t signed players? Tulla haven’t signed any players? I think the real problem with the player signings is the quality of the signing, whilst Roxy is signing a good player in Dimech, Airport west signed Dean Limbach, Roxy signed Nathan Reichelt who is a division 1 premiership player and had one of his better years playing in premier for Crazyburn, Tulla went and signed Shannon Broadbent, but that seems to be ok.

If the World health organisation was a part of this forum they would probably blame COVID-19 on EK because of the bias opinion about them. What do 6 of the clubs want moving forward? Should EK and APW just be moved up in to premier, would that make the comp happy? Airport west went through a year of heartache in Premier last year and in my opinion they would not be in a much better position now, these clubs are recruiting to build something, everyone takes pot shots at that guy that coaches EK trying everything possible to win a flag? When I have been part of the recruitment process at a club for a coach, I didn’t want to hear that they were there to take my clubs money and do nothing with it, I want results.

So turning the attention back onto the other clubs, I like Farrelly and what he has done at Roxy, but he hasn’t done it without recruiting, Craigieburn didn’t win their senior flag without recruiting.

Before Covid-19 restrictions kicked in I was able to get around to a couple of scratch matches, I am not sure why everyone is worried about EK, they were sh*t against Caroline springs, Tullamarine against Altona (flag favourite in WRFL div 1) were really good, Tulla have some good kids now and good depth, my money is on them if the season goes ahead.

Anyway I wish nothing but the best for every club that is facing financial hardship and I am sure all the Presidents will make the right call on their Own club.
