He'd find the step up a bit much at Old Essendon, seems destined to stay in the EDFL at this stage.

in relation to the kents, i know that the two oldest boys are not that good, but the last one is a good player. I played against him this year and he is ok.

Also you can honestly believe that Old Essendon would beat a team like greenvale, keilor, or strathmore. I played old essendon in a practice match this year, and it was little more than a training drill. We won by about 100 points. We lost to greenvale by 170 points and lost to keilor by a bit too.

If you're talking about the Avondale Heights/Old Essendon pratice match the defeat was 4 points not 100. And the Old Essendon side was basically an under 19 outfit. The oldest 2 Kent's played seniors this year at Greenvale which is a disgrace. They would be warming the pine in the 2's at Keilor Hill. Both also played 2's footy at Essendon Grammar while the senior side at Old Essendon is made up of former 1st players and A grade recruits from the country.

i watched the EDFL grand final and greenvales and strathmores side, were made up of ex afl and ex vfl players, not ex A grade players. There are MANY threads on this site that say sides like Keilor would be strong A grade ammos standard.

And school footy what a guide that is. I also saw the edfl reserve grade grand final, Matt Towner was o.k in that game. But wait a second, that was twos footy. Correct me if im wrong but wasnt Matt Towner on a footy scholarship at ess gram? He is certainly going places now

I noticed you danced around the 100 point thrashing comment.

Matt Towner is now fat and slow... this happens. Look at Dave Calthorpe!

I think Old Essendon has at least 3 ex VFL players in it's side, two of which were on AFL lists. I don't think having a team full of 30yr+ has been ex-AFL players necessarily means your better than players who are young and talented but didn't make it at the top level.

I also believe Old Essendon has the best Towner...Sean!

John Barnes seems to think differently.

"Think" is the keyword in that sentence. If you or Barnes can tell me that he has met and been interviewed by the sub group, (President and two VP's), tasked with finding a coach, I will withdraw gracefully.

lie.

Just thinking, Strathmore have 11 afl/vfl or interstate equiv players and greenvale have 13. i have played with and against most of them. Keilor have a fair few as well. Additonally, i watched the edfl grand final and only saw one kent playing not 3.

You are a fair clown DUDE!!!

I think you'll find Essendon has 6 ex/current VFL/AFL players on their list. Dan Winkel, David Biggs, Tim Biggs, Scott Howard, Lachlan Teal & Daniel Flaherty with rumours also linking Chris Goulette and Ben Clifton to Keilor Hiil. I would like you to name all Starthmore & Greenvales VFL/AFL links or your credibility is shot to pieces.

And if you actually bothered to read my posts instead of shooting your mouth off you will read that I said the older 2 Kents played seniors this season. Didn't say they played in the GF.

Pull your head in!!!

Nuffy it seems our friend likes watching "kick to pack" mentality football in which athleticism, skills and fitness play second fiddle to brutality and intimidation!

Winkle played in the essendon reserves during the 93/94 seasons....

so greenvale had 14 VFL/AFL players and then the Kent's making up the rest of the team, fair depth!!!

how many would play if you couldn't pay them?

A couple of challenges to the listings,

Strathmore, Craig Ednie signed, but went back to Yarrawonga, played most of the year there. Michael O'Brien, on the list but because of injury, did not play in the finals. If he played at all, may have been a few games at the start.

Greenvale. Paul Wynd missed most of the season did not play finals. John Tate, did not play at Coburg, played country, Euroa, then Keilor, then Greenvale. Andrew Bouzikas, born 1982, came to Greenvale from St Bernards. But you did miss one, Dean Smith on 2005 Coburg list. You can also add to that Andrew Garbutt from North Albury. Erem Karabjak also a 2003 inclusion to the club. The Kent's did go close to making up the few remaining spots.

How many would stay if the money stopped? Very few! There are a couple of players that hawk themselves around each year, and then go back to Bruce Kent to match their new offer.

Also heard a rumour that Tate wants to go back to Keilor.

we all love the Kent boys.

So Bruce Kent has a fair bit of money, well he is a lawyer.
Partner in a legal firm to be precise, and knows how to charge! Saw him in town a few weeks back, said to him, "nice day isn't". "Yes" he replied. Few days later letter arrives, bill from his company for professional service rendered! ;)

Also believe there is another Kent boy that is adopted and living away from home. Bruce wants to get him to Greenvale. Kid live in a place called Metropolis, first name is Clark. :p

There hasn't been an official interview. Because Barnes declined.
Keilor seeked Barnes' interest, however Barnes wants to keep his coaching in the professional environment.

Did look to move into the TAC Cup field, but with the only going jobs out of the Melbourne Metro region and with a young family, it looks as if he will remain at Essendon next season.

Yes, you are correct, ednie and o brien did miss due to a coach assult and injury, same with wynd. John Tait did play for Coburg, quite a few games, i played with him! Also Bouzikas played for Port Melbourne, i saw him play a game when plugger was playing. I think it was his only game in the ones.

In relation to dean smith, i didnt add him cuase he has not played a senoir game.

Also i did hear a rumour about tait, but i it wasnt in relation to keilor.

Andrew Garbutt must be one of the biggest guys playing local footy!

This fight is quite amusing, i find it funny how ausse_dude names all the players and you backtrack by saying 'how many would play if not being paid' thats classic backtracking and conceding the points lol.

Anyhow the EDFL is a shocking standard by probably Greenvake,Strathmoore,Keilor and Oak Park on a regular basis, i saw a few EDFL games and the EDFL Grand final and they where fairly good, the standard was good.

However spending almost 99% of my time in the GV (Goulborn Valley) i can categorically say without any hesitation that bar probably Greenvale and Strathmoore (on a very very very good day) the standard in footy is streets apart. The good players and sides in the GV would embarass EDFL sides, i mean really make them look like a bunch 3rd rate sods, the standard of footy is uncomparable.

Will be interesting to see how Adam Winter goes in the VFL next season if he actually does go otherwise he might be playing his trade in the GV next season, that would be a real good tester for him. On Matty Towner, how much has that bloke gone downhill, in under 18s he was a jet and used be 1 of only 2 or 3 descent Jets players along with Knez and say Mckenzie but gee Towner has turned into a complete camel, one of the worst downhill performances from a kid who played Essendon VFL i have ever seen.

Cheers

I find it quite amusing too Tige. An absolute back down. He asked for a list and i gave him one. The fact that they say i have no credibility, they give me a list of VLF players with guys that have never ever stepped foot in the club is an insult. The fact is that Clifton even played for Greenvale, and Howard just doesnt play for them. Lachlan Teal couldnt get a kick in a kung foo fight, and was a 3rds player at P.E.G.S. Tim biggs played about two games of VFL and so did his brother, but hey a games a game.

I couldnt agree more with what you are saying. A side like Mansfield would easily take care of the Greenvales and Strathmores, just like they would easily take care of a mid range b grade side. I reakon they would be the same standard of the top a grade ammo sides. To say how many would stay if not paid is pointless, those players are there and they play for the club. Sure they get paid, but how many would stay at Mansfield or St Bernards if they didnt get paid. The fact is there are many threads on big footy that say this. In a thread somewhere greenvale was rated in the bottom half on of the 12 best sides in vic footy. The top sides were all EFL and GVFL teams. The ammos hide behind a belief that other types of footy is slow, dirty, unskillful, played in packs and just pays old hacks. They need to wake up and read some of these threads.
