Junior umpires are supplied by clubs, all teams have two grounds and are on long term deals which cost bugger all, as councils want the grounds used. The profits made by clubs by having lots of teams far outweighs any of this

They have 200k in from their junior program, add in the fact all these additional families grows their ability to find sponsors. It might cost 30k to run junior football, that's 170k profit
You really have NO IDEA of what costs are involved running a club.

Well put it on here then, I actually see what clubs pay for ground hire, affilation costs are bugger all, kids jumpers aren't changed over every year.

I'd suggest I'd have a far broader knowledge of what it takes to run a club. Unless you can provide a run down on here, than you are the Keilor faithful actually need to.apologise to your junior members

I’m sorry
But u clearly do not no
All clubs have volunteer problems it’s just the way of the world these days
Enough on jnrs and they do pay or not pay if u don’t want to pay it just move
If my kids were at a club that was charging $460 for fees, you're damn right I wouldn't be volunteering for anything. My kids played at a club that charged $250 (less family discounts) and we had plenty of people happy to chip in. Comes back to what type of club you're running and what culture that encourages

I've provided affilation costs and ground hire costs, they are the biggest ticket items
Posting your stance on this over and over doesn’t make your points any stronger, give it a rest. The fact you didn’t know juniors had umpires shows you are pretty far removed from this competition.

Well it’s a bit of both as some games volunteers had to umpire..And yes clubs still take $$ for umpire costs 😩
But yes majority or lower age juniors have official umpires.

Well the fact we've got posters on here telling us that how much junior footy costs footy clubs is a crock of shit and deserves to be pointed out

As you say did play means they are not jnrs anymore
When I played jnrs it was 200 but that was along time ago
Live in the present

This isn't getting anywhere. Hopefully the Keilor parents here, and parents of any other clubs ripping their juniors off, are at least aware of it. It's their choice from there to either accept that or not. Bowing out

Yep I've sent another email to cancel my account.

My sons played at Gisborne rookies and it was nowhere near 450 a season. They now play in Geelong and I'd get change from 450 a season for one son to play junior footy and cricket

One cost you haven't counted is footballs. Match Day Sherrin's are between $150 and $180 each and you basically need 4 fresh ones every home game.
Then you have training footy's - you need about one for every 4 players. That's for both seniors and juniors. They are a bit cheaper and you can re-use some of the match day footys but thats no good early in the season.

Other costs:
  • Senior Trainers - generally 3 each for Mens and Womens and can be between $100 to $200 each per match
  • Player insurance
  • Fire, theft insurance
  • Gas, electricity
  • Football jumpers
  • Strapping - you would not believe how much a club has to spend on strapping every week. I would think 75% of all senior player have some sort of strapping on them
  • Other medical items, gatorades, pickle juice
  • Exercise equipment - most clubs have weights and exercise bikes these days
  • Licencing costs - food, bar
  • Weekly team dinners for Seniors - I dare say most clubs have weekly team dinners after Thursday night training. Some clubs charge the players a nominal fee, others don't. Feeding 60 people a week is not cheap.
Bar and canteen is basically a break even affair when you factor in wages, wastage etc.

All up it costs around 10k for an average weekend of footy at your home ground. The more teams you have, the greater the cost.

Yep do reserves and thirds get a new ball though? As the home club, you add the balls to your collection for training.

Playet insurance is the basic, most players have their own as well in the seniors. Most junior jumpers don't need new ones each year.

I just paid $225 for kids footy, per child, our club has all of the above. We don't pay 100k for our senior coach though, 2 guys from the club were drafted this year. Plenty in the falcons squad. If juniors at keilor are paying 450 it's a rort

Also does anyone actually know what a Keilor junior pays, or is it Chinese whispers
Keilor $475
Strathmore $595
Pascoe Vale $450
Doutta Stars $450

That’s the ones that I know of, Abers would be every bit the same + sports club membership. Imagine Greenvale wouldn’t be much different.

Heard on here Deer Park pay $200 and they get a bag and a polo as well in the price when I coached juniors over 20 years ago it was $10 a child please inflation hasn't gone up that much

why can't people be honest and just say as it is the kids pay for the seniors I just believe clubs are ripping families of how can one club have fees nearly $300 dollars less than others

That's massive isn't it, I'd think all parents should be asking the question, not just Keilor. And thanks for posting it

Yes you do add the balls during the season however as I noted, that does not help with pre season training.
Jumpers cannot be recycled for ever and a day. New sponsors come on board and some want naming rights on the jumper.
