Let's ALL be totally honest and admit that the Abers list put together this year would be close to the best list ever compiled in metro/country footy. I know some people don't like me speculating, but it could also be the most expensive. So for there sake I hope they win it. Pretty good club "but" you either love them or hate them.
If Greenvale win or even get close it will surprised most edfl followers.

The question is will the points system see other sides close the gap, or will it widen even further in 2016?

PS: The salary cap figure branded around just won't be followed by the majority of premier clubs in 2016 if we are all being honest, or we will see a lot of players leaving our league. I'm sure you don't need proof to know this...
Nothing wrong with you speculating as long as you do not portray it as fact, which is your tendency. For a change, I agree with something you have said. The first two aspects, the best team and a very expensive one. Heard John Larkin on SEN last night, think it will be a while before we see Abers sliding down the list.
I must be sick, all this agreeing with you. One more, actually agree that the salary cap is window dressing. Cannot see anyway that it can be enforced if clubs deviate from the "honour" system.

See some country teams had the points system and seemed to think it worked ok, but think they don't have relegation do they. So how will the side that gets promoted be able to recruit enough players to be competitive. It's the reason EDS, Airport West, Pacco etc find it harder to stay competitive without recruiting. The top sides have had a chance to keep a "senior" core longer hence lower points for good premier players.

The point system will not work in a metro comp, will simpky make it impossible for ambitious clubs like Pacco, Avondale, Marby etc to compete. Abers and Greenvale will still remain the strongest.

just watching ch31 and glad I saved my $18 and stayed home with a few frothies. Abers by how far!!! Not much Greenvale can do IMO.

-Oh and did you see the Abers runner standing on the wing at the first bounce. Seroiusly I just can't understand why you need to be out there..

-How did that umpire who paid deliberate out of bounce in the 1st quarter (which seen Greenvale get there 1st goal) get the grand final. Is he one of our best?? Umm.

Anyway back to the bar...

Abers and Greenvale will remain strong because they have got a fair few gun home growns back as well as being able to keep there high profile stars for many years. Pacco and Avondale will struggle but players do drop a point each year they stay. Eds will hopefully base there recruiting around bring back there juniors and topping up with some elite players for positions they will need

Congratulations to Abers on there win and undefeated season. Commiserations to Greenvale but don't think any other side would have got close. They tried there best and can hold there head high.

Unless some Abers players leave, retire or get injured (which I don't want to see) Abers will win the next 3 premierships if all teams have the same allocated points. They could be in trouble under the salary cap, but as stated I'm not sure it can be policed.

Enjoy it Abers and drink plenty...

Yes, Abers certainly were in a league of their own today. Capped off a sensational season for them. Have been following Premier division for 20 odd years. I had previously thought 2006 Strathmore and 2007 Greenvale premiership teams were the strongest teams I had seen. In my opinion this Abers team now takes that mantle, easily.

Hopefully Turbo, things get a bit tight for them as far as the purse strings go, otherwise your prediction of a dynasty may come to pass.

Thought the crowd numbers were well down on previous years, even though the weather was perfect. Maybe the widely predicted one horse race, or the $18 entry fee put a lot of neutrals off.

Just saw the scores..
Congratulations to Abers, they cop more than their share of crap but they're a proud club with an army of loyal followers - who I'm sure will be in for a big few days.
Enjoy it

Did you go to Eastern oval in Ballarat today BJ? If so, probably a wise decision, as that game was a fair bit tighter.

Hey Stax, can't see there purse strings getting tight mate. The salary cap just won't be followed by a few teams let's be honest. Guessing you know that yeah.

Hey Stax, Think the crowd was down due to most people knowing Abers just to good.
I must say I liked the game of #8 Cubillo strong, tough, skilful type who looks like a good leader. Been impressed with him every time I've seen him. #5 Blackwell all class. #38 Graham, I thought Deluca actually won the ruck duels ( however just my opinion) but Graham was to tall when going forward. Think Shiners should have went on him or Smith maybe. #29 Allan is a gun of the competition. Hope his injury is not to bad.

Maybe Abers and Deer Park ( who had a huge GF win) can start there own league to give the rest of us a chance of winning next years flag. Haha

Really glad the EDFL introduced the 3rd competition to even up the scores with all grades
Their biggest problem wasn't B grade, but was and still is A grade
Great job Pricey

This is the first blow out in a gf for at least 10 years, Abers exceptional the whole year and deserved premiers. Well done and enjoy it.

I'm a Roxburgh Park boy at heart, so we're plodding away in division 2. Admittedly, this was the first game of premier league footy I saw all year. I was super impressed by Aberfeldie. Undefeated and premiers convincingly, secretly a Nic Cattapan fan! Not much Greenvale could do really, any side in any league and division would find it hard to recover a 6 goal QT deficit.

Did have a chuckle seeing Kyle Reimers get into Fabian Deluca after he clipped Angus Graham on the back of the head after he kicked a goal in the 2nd Q.

Hey Outback, how do you see other clubs closing the gap. The thing is there better players (except Blackwell & Graham) might not be homegrown but have been at the club for a few years so will be low points. Even if they are found to be over the cap (like some others) you can't just rip up contracts and tell them to leave.
An idea could be Abers shouldn't be allowed to recruit any players outside there current list and juniors. Could that even it out a bit?? However is it fair??
I'm not sure of the answer but the points & cap system won't stop the Abers juggernaut..

I don't think abers deserves to be stopped or capped. They have been good enough to keep players like Davis and lynch Oswald reimers and a few others. Which is a credit to whatever is going on there. If they can keep graham and Blackwell as well as the others I mentioned for years to go with juniors like carboni McLean cattapan toy langwell why should they be crucified? Personally as a Douttas person I'd like to see them stopped. But as a neutral. It encourages players to stay at one club which is massive as these big names do get looked upto by the juniors at the respective clubs. And the juniors at abers get to see the same faces year on year. I think that Is important it creates a good environment for each club if players stay there for a number of years.

Hey mate, fully agree with you. Therefore I think clubs promoted to premier over the last 5-6 years need some assistance to stabilise their lists, compared to clubs that have been in premier for more than 6 years say. It's not easy coming up. Douttas recruited for b grade and these players come with high points and now they probably need another 6-10 a grade recruits. That alone could be around 25-35 points on 2016 recruits unless they recruit homegrowns.
Another thing is promoted clubs need time to consolidate for a few years as how many promoted clubs have competed for finals in there first year up. Not any that I can think off..
Interesting times but the points system was originally for leagues with relegation/promotion I think!!

I think eds best side had 63 points which drops to 41 next season because each player drops a point.
Buttergeig Carey Ramsey retire that probably brings you an extra 7 points.
So eds begin on 34 points.
Kazuro
Boyse
Hicks
Anderson
H.Moore
Morris
Kovac
Would all be 1 point then say you get 4 homegrowns back. Takes you to 38 points. Then you have 22 points to to fill how ever you like. If the cap is 60.

What's the ruling if a homegrown leaves his junior club then returns. Surely they can't be a 1 pointer.

Ever seen someone choke on their corn flakes? That's what Brett Scott looked like handing out medals to Abers people (the face of arrogance doesn't even change under duress.)
Anyway well done to Abers, not a single individual in that performance. A true TEAM effort.
Do agree with the mighty Stars and recruiting. Surely concessions have been looked at by the league.
