I remember posting like this in 2014. I certainly didn't expect to be fed up 3 years later.Let's be honest, this board has bordered on pathetic all year and for the most part is unreadable.
Even the posts with the most likes in this thread are predictable.
"Port sucks blah blah blah" is a sure fire way to get some freebie likes around here these days.
Very Good Summary...although I don't believe an offer from GC would need to force the clubs hand as Ken still has a year to run on his contract...assuming nothing in fine print allows Ken to move with 1 year remaining..Put your October 2102 glasses on. In 2013 and 2014 we overachieved. In 2015 and 2016 we underachieved. In 2017 we were very close to the expected/hoped for trajectory of a list that was in disarray in 2012.
I think Hinkley thought it would take about 6 or 7 years to get us to the top. It was in his 8th year that Mark Thompson got Geelong their first flag. At the end of 2006 they very nearly sacked Thompson after not making finals in his 7th year. They had gone 5th, 12th,9th, 12th, 4th, 5th, 10th up until then.
This year was a pass albeit a bare one. Hinkley deserves to see out this contract. Personally, I would love to NOT extend Ken's contract until the end of next year- Buckley style. I'm a Ken man but the message has to be sent loud and clear to the players and coaching staff- we are playing for "now".
If we bomb out next year (and by that I mean we don't make finals) then it might be time to let Ken go and we can't afford to pay out two extra years. If we continue to improve on 2017, he thoroughly deserves an extra two years. If we make a GF he deserves an extra 3-4.
Ken's selection on Saturday night was for the future and not for the now. WC played for the now (i.e. recruiting Mitchell and Petrie). It's time to play for the now- put the coaches and players under that pressure by NOT extending Ken's reign until later. If Koch wants to back his words with action that's what he'd do.
However, GC's interest in Ken may force our hand.

Kick straight and you end the negativity. Simples.

Forgetting who is coach for a minute. I want an answer to the question: Do people feel like we will improve next year. Yes/No and why
Well written Shew.......I agree with all of that...
I have no doubt we were overs because of what Ken brought to the club in the way of attitude and game style........
Yes and dare I say a lot on here are going to hate my first baited comment, growth from within.
Look at the age demographic of our list.
Over 30's have a natural progression backward. The only player of note in that Category is Westhoff and he is not showing signs of regression.
Other older players to say goodbye are Monfries, White and Krakouer. Fair to say these guys gave us a combined total of 90 minutes of quality AFL football.
A very good to elite batch of player in the 27 to 30 age group. Ryder, Gray, Boak, Ebert, Hartlett.
Then you have the 24 to 26 year olds about to enter their best years of football. Dixon, Wingard, Polec, Jonas, Pittard
then you have the 21 to 23 year olds who should still have rapid improvement but also develop greater consistency. Wines, Clurey, Howard, Amon, Bryne-Jones.
Cap that off with the pure talent to be developed below that. Powell-Pepper, Houston, Frampton, Bonner, Marshall
Around this you have depth in Broadbent, Grey, Neade, Impey, Atley, Drew
Even with that list I expect us to get better, Our percentage suggests that we will get better as well
Our only losses from this years team is Trengove and Young and that does not appear to leave a massive hole in the team.
Then we will bring some players in, one at least who we would expect to be best 22.
Now to take your bait. We have a great coach in Hinkley. Before everyone comes swinging at me just sit back and look at the players who have come to the club whilst he has been in charge compared to the players who came to the club between 2005 and the end of the Primus disaster.
Ken is a loser. We simply must turn the tables on the close loss results to be seen as a serious threat again. I believe it's now 4-15 in last 19. That's not acceptable.
Mate you are one funny poster, I love it.Ken is a loser.
Way over achieved because he says the right things.
He has now infected our players with the ability to turn a win into a loss
He is a loser coach.
Koch wants to make a loser coach a 10 year coach.
Forgive me, but exactly what are Koch's football credentials again?
Koch is a player of the "mates" game..the in club
"Mates games" keep a butcher out when 5 of your forwards are out injured.
It keeps a Ken farmer medalist in the 2s and keeps a Trengove up forward.
It keeps a Trengove out and puts a west Hoff Wat chb.
It doesn't give Ryder any chop support in round 24.
It's why we aren't playing this week
Ken is a loser with a capital L. Koch is a Muppet who wants him there for 10 years.
Losers
Lol is that the standard we are setting for ourselves now?
We are good and happy coz we are not losing by 100 points
Give me a f**king break
Depends who we trade in, if Rockliff, Menzel and or Motlop are playing for port I can see us improving
But if nothing changes nope, tougher draw, probably tougher run with injuries.. but don't worry kenny will still have 2 years remaining in his contract after we extend him until 2020
We probs won't get to play the bottom 2 teams twice. Why are you convinced we'll have a tougher draw?
The draw will be similar to this year. We finished in the 7-12 range - the same as last year, which means
we'll play minimum of 1 and maximum of 2 return meetings with clubs ranked 1-6 on the ladder. This season we had 1 from the teams that finished 1-6 (Adelaide). Yeah, it may be tougher - we may draw 2, but one of the will be the Adelaide.
We'll also have a minimum of 2 and maximum of 3 return meetings with other middle six clubs and a minimum of 1 and maximum of 2 return meetings with clubs ranked 13-18.
The same as last year...
But depending on who you draw, we could have an easier draw...
I didn't mean to credit Ken wholly, but I see why you got that impression. It would be remiss not to mention the hand KT, Burgo and Kochie had in our rise from basket case to contenders...........and of course the playing group...It was Ken that gave them the confidence to play the way they did however and it should be acknowledged...Saying we overachieved in 2013 and 2014 - and wholly crediting Ken for it - is an astronomical cop-out
Actually we played better against the top teams (hardly down hill skiers at that stage) and dropped the should win games as you pointed out......I believe the players started to believe their own press and got ahead of themselves, untimely injuries meant gutsy, statement making changes were limited and Ken gets labelled for picking mates.....although I admit there were times when I thought he held the faith in certain players for too long also.....but wholly crediting Ken for those seasons is folly alsoto downhill skiing pretenders
For the record I don' think we should have renewed just yet I just think he deserved to see out the current contract........Our club is about to double-down.
I want a harder draw.........to be the best you have to beat the best....if we go another year and can't beat top 8 sides I'd rather miss the finals and have change.....it's a young side but we will be developing with sides like Saints, Dees etc with, in theory, players with more potential (higher picks) while the Crows, Swans cats reset so if Ken can't get it done I want to know about it sooner rather than later......But depending on who you draw, we could have an easier draw...

I often misuse irony in the correct sense so can someone help me is this irony or a misnomer or something else?
'when thundercloud accuses Boydman of repeating himself adnauseum' - what is that called?
#NotEvenDrunkMate you are one funny poster, I love it.
