Is this a joke?

We need another ruckman so I nominate Goran Grigic.

Koby Stevens, definetely

There are two or three mids with a bit more class that i would prefer at this stage. Stevens is a bit of a work horse with reasonable pace and skills.

If you are looking for pace, skills, good clearance work and a mid who is prepared to block then i would take Allen Christenson from the Falcons.

Ben Cunnington from the Falcons is another who i liked last year.Good skills on both sides and able to play midfield , half back or half forward.

Martin from the Pioneers is a classy player with good skills on both sides. He plays in the same mould as Ziebell in the midfield or at half forward.

There will be more of an idea of how they line up in about 4 weeks time when the Under 18 champs are over.

Apparently, that has changed.

Imagine the big unit - Bao Xishun playing for EFC. Where's Sheeds when you need him. :D

Maverick Weller.

You just know someone with the name Maverick is going to be a gun. Plus if Top Gun taught me anything it's that guys called Maverick live close to the edge, and as TV commentators keep incessantly reminding me Essendon love to play with dare and take risks so he has to fit into our team.*

who is willie dick

he wore no.2 for essendon in the 90s. a knee injury cut him down in his prime!

we'll come back to a thread like this later in july once there is more exposed u/18 form to review.

Michael Symons >>>>>>>>>>>>> Barry Young.

:p

That's funny as I thought of Symons first, but went for Barry. :thumbsu:

Damian Cupido (he deserves a second chance)

I think that it is at the that time of year where we should discuss possible draftees and delistings. The first round of U18 champs are finished and we are half way through the second round, and already draftees are being identified.

This year we should possibly only use 3 picks with a weakened draft, unless we trade for an earlier pick. I still think that we should look to possibly get 2 mids, inside and out, and maybe a ruckman or a key position player.

You have already made a thread exactly same!

Gah. Is there a way to remove thread creation abilities?

In terms of draft...

With Laycock's future in doubt.
Hille with an injury that may mean his best is well behind him.
Bellchambers looking like he is still quite a few years away from being solid AFL standard.
Bock being at least 2 or 3 pre seasons away, if he makes it all. Speculative.
And the question mark of how long Ryder, really a CH B/F can keep up his form in the ruck.

Surely we have to be looking for some more depth in the ruck department?

In a hopelessly optimistic attempt to get this thread back on topic (if there ever was one), whatkind of players should we be looking at?

The consensus after we drafted Hurley was that we'd pick up a few midfielders who could hit the ground running, but with the question marks over the forwardline, and the depth of the talls in this draft apparently pretty poor should we be looking tall for our first pick (in the late 10 to early teens range most likely), or should we go small this time?

This is clearly the question at hand Ben. Backline is fine... but

-if Neagle does not come on to become a 45+ goal a season FF (a distinct possibility)
-if Gumby does not overcome injury
-when Lloyd and Lucas retire

What have we got in KPF stakes = 0 (M Still obviously developing player)

I realise that these are just possibilities (which have been discussed on numerous occasions), but they could well be realities. Given the drafting of Hurley last year, it is possible that Knights takes a "safety first" approach to drafting by covering the bases that "really" need to be covered.

OF course, you could argue that the midfield is a bigger base to cover. From my point of view, it is actually riskier to not draft a key position forward for the "possibilities outlines above". But hey, just an opinion.

I think Laycock could become a 40-50 goal key forward if he was played as a permanent forward, but he is in the same boat as Gumbleton - will he ever string a full season together?

Still is an unknown quantity, Neagle and Gumbleton have potential, but need to overcome various barriers to unleash that potential and Ryder is better suited in the ruck.

Daniher may spend more time up forward, but even then, that would be plastering over a potential crack.

I would not be surprised at all to see us go tall in round 1, then pick midfielders for the rest of our picks.

I would not be surprised if we traded a fairly early pick for a Todd Goldstein or Mark Blake type ruckman either.

We are in desperate need of a quality genuine small forward (i.e. Mark Williams) and an a-grade midfielder (i.e. J. Selwood).

I would like to see McVeigh remain as the small defender and McPhee as the third tall forward once Fletcher and Hurley are back into the side.

Moving on to next season, I'd like to see one or more of Houli, Myers, Prismall, Hocking, Lonergan and Jetta have a breakout year like Dyson has thus far in '09! :thumbsu:
