Essendon have just set an new AFL era record

Yeah, good call. The Hawks only had 10 guys in last week's team who were aged 22 or under (compared to the Baby Bombers with 7 today.). Six of them with less than 20 games experience compared to Essendon's 4. Excellent knowledge of football outside of your Baby Bombers bubble. :thumbsu:

Sounds to me like you are dreaming...
16pt loss to Carlton, scoring 100+
vs
69pt loss to the Saints

would suggest our rebuild is further advanced

He was drafted by Port and then delisted after 3 seasons

You picked him up in the mid-season draft.

He was a reject. You can't include him as one off your "Baby Bombers" draft selections that you've developed.
another ground breaker.
no MSD players in premiership sides....

I’d much prefer going for Essendon than clubs like Melbourne or St.Kilda

Melbourne look nice but let’s remember they haven’t won a flag since the dark ages.

We’ve been over this in copious amounts of Essendon bashing threads but if you’re not first, you’re last.

Possibly because we won 3 in a row and went all in on winning a 4th but fell short.

Im pretty happy with the last 15 years and the direction we are going now.

Are you happy with the last 15 years and where youre going now ?

Yea but they win every trade period thanks to this genius..

I find this odd.

Essendon clearly have brought less joy to their supporters than the Saints in the last fifteen to twenty years.

Numerous finals appearances, three grand finals, albeit they’ve lost them, they still made it there. Isn’t basing your preference to support a club based on a history that likely predates you a little bit boring? I mean support who you like mate and I’d be disappointed if you didn’t do it ruthlessly, but don’t throw another team under the bus that has clearly outperformed yours in spades in the last two decades.

why last 15 years? I'm happy i've seen 4 flags vs. the alternative.

I am happy with how we're tracking now though.
3 losses under a kick. Another one under 3 goals.
Highest scoring team in the comp
Keep going even when we're down all the way to the final siren.

this "record" can keep ticking along. it means nothing when you look at the team we took it from, and what they've done in the last 4 years.

Claiming that a finals win means nothing is a bit disingenuous. Yes, at the end of the day every club wants to win the flag. But, the first step to get there is winning finals.

Seeing your team win a final, being there when the whips are cracking in September gives a bit of joy and hope to the fans. You can start to think we're not far off.

Not even being able to hang your hat on that means that Essendon have been non-competitive for 15 seasons. Its got to be demoralising. There's been so many false dawns, but not once have they even been in the conversation, except for a few rounds in the dank era.

Last 15 because thats about how long Essendon have been making terrible decisions.

Ive seen 10 flags BTW :)

FMD. our last flag wasn't that long ago.

Been to winning GF's and a losing one.
I'll take memories of one of those flags over 2 decades of losing them.
Or finals wins that don't lead to anything. How'd the blues go after a couple of EF wins? 2 spoons + 2 bottom 4 finishes (3 if you count 2016 and you don't count essendon as a true last place side).

Picking up the likes of Scully, Patton, O'Meara, Wingard, Vickery etc has really worked wonders for Hawthorn. Your 10 x U'22s are pretty much all later draft picks who won't take you anywhere. For whatever reason Clarkson decided at some stage using high draft picks isn't much of an idea despite it being the cornerstone of your recent successful era and despite not getting them all right. Getting former number 1 picks on the cheap with major injury issues is the go apparently although O'Meara did cost you a lot on the trade table. Hawthorn are starting way further back than where we currently sit in our rebuild. The loss of Saad, Fantasia, Daniher and McKenna while not great has fast tracked our rebuild, so far the signs are looking good. To say otherwise is ridiculous.

North made 2 prelims. Carlton made 2 semis. Both beat us in recent finals.
All in the last decade. both have premiership droughts longer than ours. And are as far if not further from it than us.

Hope can bring false dawns
I prefer to see a team have a good season and miss finals, than limp in, win one, then drop away soon after.
Tigers hadn't won a final in 15 years before the year they won a flag. I'll wait for a finals win when we can take it somewhere

Actually think Essendon are on right track. Some promising young talls are the building blocks of future success
More to that, we are playing with far greater direction and with a clearer game plan than i can recall for a long while.

One kick away in 3 games from being 4th.
The fact we aren't is fine. We aren't there yet. List needs more work.
Lions were the same in 2018. More than last year, i'd say this offseason is critical for our future.

Spot on. Don’t care about winning a final of it doesn’t end in a flag. Its just another game.

Where would Richmond be without Martin/Cotchin? Hawthorn without Roughead, Hodge and Lewis? Melbourne currently without Petracca/Oliver?

We haven’t been gifted priority picks like the first two. Exactly the reason I’m happy to stay low. We need another few high draft pick talents. Keep playing entertaining football with kids and add a top 3 or 4 talent is what is best.

Its easy to say that in hindsight. When north was playing in those prelims or carlton was playing in that semi, were you pleased Essendon was nowhere to be seen, building to a non existent future that still hasn't been realised?

This is such a moronic way to look at things.

My team’s lack of success is better than your teams lack of success :drunk:
