Re: Essendon list changes

Yeah, Silverlock would add a shit load more than Lonergan
He's done sooooo much at AFL level

Don't be surprised if Lonergan and Atkinson are re-signed at some stage.

And please keep Crameri off the senior list.

If this happens, it shows the dire situation of our list.

As for Silverlock, he was showing plenty playing as a midfielder for Benfigo last year and may have actually been the first of our rookies to have played senior football (after the nominated Howlett of course), due to his injury, he was left to contemplate the 'what if's' about season 2010.

I would not be against upgrading Silverlock DeSawx, however, you would think there are better prospects at pick 81 rather than pick 100 - odd (rookie pick 8 or what ever it is), so this begs the question, do we upgrade Silverlock?

DeSawx

Have you seen Silverlock play? What are his strengths? what are his weakness'? why do you not promote upgrading Silverlock ahead of maintaining someone like Lonergan?

Please elaborate, I am intrigued now :D

Re: Essendon list changes

Lonergan isn't best 22 every week type player but IMO a more than handy depth player to cover a Howlett or a Welsh, teams need players like these.

When he went into the middle last year he actually lifted us a few times with his clearance work and got us back into games, then of course with typical Knights style, he got left there too long and got tired instead of being rotated out.

I've seen Silverlock a few trimes, didn't really show me any traits he was overly good at. The fact he hasn't played an AFL games tells me why not just keep him on the rookie list another year, if he grows like you all think he will then we can promote him.

We'll have to replace players like Welsh, Dyson quite possibly next year anyway.

Lonergan's lack of pace is a worry for mine.

Yes he is a hard tough uncompromising player, but I think he may have peaked and will only ever going to be a 12 - 16 possession a game midfielder..

I would look at try and improve the team, and that would not involve Lonergan (and I am not advocating having Silverlock instead, merely pointing out we could upgrade him as another option).

Would you prefer Lonergan playing as an inside midfielder rotation for Jobe Watson and Ben Howlett or would you prefer someone else? Welsh perhaps? Myers perhaps? McVeigh?

I'd prefer all of them ahead of Lonergan but I'd also like to keep him for when we have injuries and form slumps. I think he's a more than handy 23-28 type player as I've said a few times.

We're not losing Silverlock, I'd let him show a bit more at VFL level or AFL level if he forces his way through before promoting him.

P.S. Would rather de-list Atkinson before Lonergan.

Still think we'll only use 3 ND picks or we would have traded Houli.

Re: Essendon list changes

How on earth does Atkinson get a gig?

Point 1.

Extremely disappointed with those.

Still and Bock were both project players.
TSlatt had done nothing wrong.
Lonergan very lucky.
Atkinson stays. Give me a break.

Point 2.

****.
Atko has 9 lives.

Stilly and TSlatts really, really unlucky there. Reckon we're trying to run the gauntlet on getting them back in the rookie draft.

I think Slattery is right.

Still would only be 18 or 19 because he was drafted underage. A 194cm guys with excelent hands who is a natural goal kicker is the kind of guy I want being given more than a year. Even if players have gone past him there has to always be a spot on a rookie list for a KPP.

Edit: feeling better about Still because I just read that he has broken his foot. It makes a fair bit of sense now. My guess is that it is a bad break (Eagan / Croad) that needs a long recovery. Take him off the list to get an extra pick and put him on the rookie list because it is very unlikely that another club would draft Still with a broken foot. A goal a game from an 18/19 year old in that Bendigo foward line is not really that bad an effort (it seemed like they were all a bit starved of chances).

Re: Essendon list changes

Oh yeah, fair point. Gee pick 46 would of been better than pick 64 hey?

Houli for pick 46 (which is what was rumored to have been offered up) is looking more likely a crap decisions, an upgrade of 18 positions in the ND would of been good, very handy, some handy prospects still around that mark..

Oh well, will wait and see eagerly with what happens..

I was thinking about why Richmond wouldn't have accepted a pick upgrade off us (perhaps involving a 3rd party to get them three 3rd rounders), given they've slashed quite a few off their list, and I got to wondering how many other clubs would be drafting deep into 4th and 5th rounds. Probably not alot, and those that are probably using rookie upgrades with those picks.

If half the comp drop out after 3 or 4 rounds, the upgrade of 18 spots becomes 10 or less pretty quickly...

Re: Essendon list changes

HFF

I would take pick 46 every day of the week.

Collingwood seem to do OK with latish picks.

Anyway, I'll be interested to see what happens with Atkinson and Lonergan.

The club has wriggle room with picks if they are BOLD enough.

Re: Essendon list changes

Why would you announce delistings prior to any conrtractc announcements with Atkinson and Lonergan? Either of these players could walk out (other clubs may offer them a 2 year deal if they can get them for free).

Smacks of poor list management once again. What was the rush?

Yeah, were Essendon trying to be "macho men"? trying to be strong and hold off to see if Richmond would indeed give up there second rounder.

Collingwood are not us though mate, we need to get better at picking later ND picks.

I am with you, would love to see Essendon make some "BOLD" decisions, but think they may take an easy path and resign them.

Re: Essendon list changes

3 ND + Howlett + PSD

Houli will be the last to go, but if he somehow stays, probably Atkinson.

Why do you want to go into the PSD.

Our fourth pick is 64 - Wait to the PSD and it becomes 75-80.

Dont understand your line of thinking.

No idea mate, people have this obsession with the PSD

I personally think they should scrap it and just make these players go into the main draw if they want a shot at the AFL again..

Whether 10 or 18 places it is still an upgrade.

You wait for the PSD to use your last pick and you are further down the pack.

And rookie selections will start at about 100 - after ND, PSD and GWS picks 8 rookies.

Posters are happy to have pick 130 ( rookie draft ) but say that Pick 60 is too low.

Strange logic.

Maybe a floater will nominate for the PSD rather than the ND?

C'mon Yaco, you're smarter than that. The club stated that they will only use three picks, so they must have something in mind.

Re: Essendon list changes

H Slattery #46.
Sam Lonergan #50
Kyle Reimers #47
Cale Hooker #54
Michael Still #55 *
Tyson Slattery #67 *

* Prove me right, guys

All have the potential to play a role in our side, and I'd argue all of Hooker, Reimers and Slattery are integral.

Top three rounds (16 picks per round, plus any priority picks = top say 50) are what I call later picks, bar Hooker, all the other guys are either not quite up to it (according to some) or have been delisted.

Ah, no, it's a mechanism to bypass restraint of trade. The only reason the AFL have been able to justify not having free agency

The final list lodgement is between the ND and PSD and also considering our first rookie pick is something like pick 12 any player that is overlooked that we would like a closer look at can be invited to train beforehand.
