Explosions in the Sky and Post-Rock Appreciation Thread

Balmorhea. All Is Wild, All Is Silent. I am not sure that I am enjoying it as much as the 2 previous releases, though I have only been playing it over the last 4 or 5 days. The early albums are a touch sparser and All Is Wild, All Is Silent has a much fuller sound and maybe that detracts a touch for me. But with all this style of music it tends to grow with each outing.

And for the 2.365 individuals who read my drivel this album has indeed got better with each listen. A grower for sure.

Also I have found an album called Fog Dance, My Moth Kingdom by Worrytrain. I guess Post Rock is the style but it is also very neo Classical with Ambient and Noise elements that certainly add to the texture. The more daring and patient will enjoy this if they can find it somewhere.

I could not agree more. Cant Speak highly enough of them.

I haven't heard of God is an astronaut and Sigur Ros. What do you recommend?

Their whole discography. Honestly, can't go wrong with any album from either. If I was to choose a favourite from both though, it would be Agaetis Byjurn from Sigur Ros and the S/T album from God is an Astronaut.

Listened to the S/T album from God is an Astronaut last night and it is awesome. Cheers for the recommendation.

Godspeed you! black emperor reform

after a decade’s retreat, god’s pee has decided to roll again.
we are, as always, stoked, stubborn and petrified.
between now and the live-dates, there’ll be rivers of noise and distraction. and the internet is a petty tyrannical monster. please remember that really all that matters is the keep on keeping on. and all that really matters is the shows. and physical engagement in the world. and folks like us and folks like you. thanks for understanding, and thank you for still listening.
see you next winter.
xoxoxox godspeed you! black emperor

epic win

Fan of Explosions in the Sky and Sigur Ros.

I Hear Sirens aren't too shabby either.

I haven't really been keeping up too much with the post-rock side of things lately. What has been released in 2010 so far?

Explosions in the Sky, God is an Astronaut and Sigur Ros are really quite superb.
Yes. Only seen Sigur Ros live, they were absolutely amazing!

Anyone listened to the new God is an Astronaut album, Age of the Fifth Sun?

Not quite as good as All is Violent..., but still an excellent piece of work.

Thought it was kinda meh TBH.

I'd say my favourite GIAA would be All Is Violet, All Is Bright.

It's one of the Top five albums of the year for me so far, easily.

All is Violent, All is Bright is still definitely their magnum opus though.

i got tix for this, so yay for me! is pretty close to my dream lineup. BJM have since cancelled though a few other great bands have been announced, including Shellac - which i'm effing ecstatic about.

Post-Rock is absolutely awesome if you don't feel like intense metal album listening, or just want some background music while you are occupied with homework, gaming or other diligent matters.

Im thinking it may be decent to sleep to as well, but I haven't tried this yet.
Or if you're hungover and you just need to lounge on the couch and have your head trip off into some pleasurable land while letting the body recuperate.

Russian Circles need to get a mention here for some of their work..

Also..
Eluvium...seriously underrated.

Then there's some others who like to kick it up a notch like RC but they're probably more of the post metal/rock/instrumental/experimental genre than post rock for the majority of their work.
