Very frustrating at first but I think I see what they're trying to do here.

If I can get over the learning curve I think I'll find a better balanced game where defenders aren't overpowered to make it less arcadey. Still think the AI cheats too obviously though.

Finding this crazy frustrating this game. Player movement doesn't seem as good. Least I didnt concede a goal this time and on harder difficulty, trying to use tactical defending. They'll probably try iron out the legacy defending in future versions so should try get used to it.

I'm not conceding but they're owning me when they have possession. I feel tactical isn't right because this game moves too fast. You jockey them and they'll just burn you. You call someone over, they'll just pass it off earlier. Not sure if I'll ever master this being the impatient idiot I am.

Cannot wait for career mode! Looks like more people are going to come in and out of the computer teams unlike previous years they signed 1 player and sold 1 player. Still though on that video there's still the occasional 'Carragher to Tottenham' which you doubt would ever, ever happen. I also hope player growth has improved, last year if you bought a 17 year old kid at 63 overall that's how he stays till he's 28. SHould be easier for your player to grow, specifically if your playing him at a young age.

The demo impressed me, so much more realistic than previous years which not everyone will like. Does anyone know if there's handballs in this years? Last years handballs were ****ing shit and every shot blocked was a penalty?

Also when you slidetackle, you rarely ever get the man, so it's hard to get bookings.

Has anyone had any injuries to your own player or the computers, out of like 10-15 games I've had one and it was a knee hyper extension.

Also anyone had the opposition booked? Still think it's clear they are saving a lot for the real thing and I'm quite surprised they got rid of the holding X celebration.

That's some sweet copy-pasting..... ;)

I just turned handballs off, they were balls last year. And I agree about CM, hopefully it actually is as good as it looks!

not being sarcastic here, but could you recommend any other funny commentators? lajide is the only funny one i've found so far and would like to hear more. i might even make my own soon hopefully my rage commentary when playing online with a laggy connection will make people laugh

i'm getting used to the new defending system kind of. i prefer it now, its still shitty but it's a slight step up.

they basically have replaced holding down the pressure button with holding down R1 so now instead of controllong one player going after the ball carrier you have your cpu team mate jockeying the ball carrier while you can run around and block the pass, run in to rape the ball carrier or chase a running winger etc. i'm sure you have all worked this out but i just feel relieved that my anus isn't as sore after these past few winning matches

edit: also thought I'd share this decent goal with you, nothing special but i hadn't scored in ages so i was basically dripping when it hit the back of the net

Honestly, not really. A lot of commentators out there are as bland as a plank of wood. That's why I enjoy his videos so much.

And top hit. :thumbsu:

I've been permanantly holding down R1 whenever I dont have the ball. That way I get some bitch to do the jockeying and tackling for me while I either run somewhere else to intercept or i sprint in and break the ball carriers legs while distracted. But then again I'm still too scared to try this on something like legendary, i feel like I'll ruin the game for myself if I find out it doesn't always work

Thoughts on tactical defending and EA making it tactical only for ranked games?

Having played PES and FIFA's demo's back to back I really enjoy the pace, feel and look of FIFA immensely over PES. So incredibly sharp and amazing to look at, really outdone themselves this time.

The problem is the defending...it's just so horrible. It really feels terribly unintuitive.

The player impact engine is still shockingly buggy too. Had several spaz out moments. One where a player on the ball just went arse up for no reason (had a hand on him...that's it:confused:).

I want to like it, but it's such a struggle due to the defending!

speaking of the player impact engine

in penalty shootouts if the penalty taker misses the shot required to keep them in he falls to his knees, sometimes the goalkeeper tries to run past him to celebrate with team mates but ends up getting headbutted in the crotch by the guy on his knees

That doesn't sound like a bad thing to me. :D

Agree with the defending part. Fair play to those whom have mastered it, would like to watch you play and get tips from you. I'm no star player, I just play outdoor with mates sometimes and indoor in a local league. I know jockeying is an important part of defending, I just find it hard to jockey in fifa as the game is so fast paced. I'm trying to start at semi pro and work myself up but the difference between semi pro and pro is crazy. Semi is extremely easy while pro seems more of a challenge.

Happy that the defending is being modified instead of just sprinting at them, but not too sure how this tactical defending will work most of the time. Not complaining or anything, just not entirely sure to how it'll be largely successful. Will keep persisting with it, but the bolded part pretty much summarizes my feelings as well.

I've called people over as well which has been slightly effective but I just feel like if you play patient, while it does add a BIT of realism, I just don't feel massively comfortable them having possession of the ball for large periods at a time. A mix of the heavy pressuring and this tactical defending needs a middle ground but yeah, like I said - i'll keep persisting with it.

Patience definitely does seem to become the key in the end.

But that just makes it boring...imo. It was something I noticed in the PES Demo 2, that the more you pressured the easier it was to force a mistake from the opposition, this seems to be the complete opposite in FIFA with the opposition gaining the ability to pull off more and more ridiculous passes and plays than anything when pressured.

I completely get where they're going. Actually making defending a skill. But they could've done it better, introducing elements one by one, instead of throwing so much in at once that it really throws off everything we've known. Really make it an evolution of defence, rather than just a complete change up.

Is it just me as well or has the AI gained extra ability to nail ridiculous passes? They get anywhere inside the box and they'll throw up some crazy flick/low/medium pass across goal to a guy standing right there for a little pinch hit in. In fact it happened in that KSIOLAJIDEBT's first game on the demo.

Once again, on the same page. They usually introduce new aspects bit by bit but a complete overhaul of the defending may scare some people off. AI is crazy better now, just can anticipate tackles a lot more, crazy passing and just great ball movement. On professional in FIFA 12, I find the computers attacking movement a lot better than Legendary on FIFA 11. I think that's what makes defending seem a lot harder as well. They're just so intelligent and quick on the ball with crazy good passes.

I'm all for more of a challenge but it seemed to take a massive boost. It's good to take solace in the fact there seems to be a significant drop in number of shots though and you have this, what I call "Pro evo" feeling, where you have to work more for your goals. As much as I think defending should change, it's a dramatic change at that and I've really never been a patient player haha. :o

Once again, just calling it how I see it, good for those whom are dealing well with it. While you're at it, give me some damn pointers! :D

When I played my first game of the demo the other day I had the biggest miss I've ever had. Had a 2 on 1 against the goalkeeper. Passed the ball across to the other forward so he then had an open goal in front of him, strolled in and thought I would just bang the ball into the net from about a meter out in the middle of the goal. The ball went at right angles and out for a throw in.:o
Even went to check I had the controls set up right. They were.:o

- Tactical defending is a piece of shit.
- When attacking it feels WAY too slow.
- Before passing the ball my players sometimes stop for a split second which causes me to lose the ball.
- The aiming is off for me, lots of passes not going to the player I intended it for.
- Players doing shit passes.

Demo sucks badly, was it necessary to make all these changes? I thought FIFA 11 gameplay was very good.

the more i play it, the more i can pick it apart and find how annoying and costly the bugs can be.

passes not going to intended player, this has once or twice had me score a goal by accident by more often i end up getting screwed.

defenders standing still for a few seconds to allow the attacker to run away

the fact the cpu (even in semi pro) can pull off some amazing attacking plays with near impossible passes consistently and score freak goals while my defenders obviously don't care

Achievement List looks pretty sweet this year, certainly a lot more variation than what we've seen in previous years.

Nutmegging an opponent and getting an achievement for it will be fun.

i can smell the platinum from here

I had a fair bash of this with a mate yesterday and while it can be frustrating at times, once you get your head around the defending it could be an improvement. The game seemed to be a bit more open than last year when it could almost be impossible to go down the middle at times due to the amount of defenders around the box.

The full game will probably be slightly different to the demo, pretty sure there were a few differences between the two last season, but it should be a good challenge to learn the new game. Only two weeks away so I am looking forward to it.

Volleys have been improved, you can actually hit them now if you time it right. We scored a couple of cracking volleys yesterday which was fun.
