Watching the second half and the third quarter in particular was even more depressing than the crap we have gone through in the previous five seasons, I thought we were past that insipid football where we are walked over like a front door mat, but apparently that is not the case.

It's not the best time to get Gold Coast, they are actually looking like a pretty solid unit for the first time in the franchises history, but I hope to see a better and more competitive performance.

Yes
Was there
Clapped the boys off at 1/2 time
But to just roll over was so utterly absolutely pathetic
Sure they are better but the complete inability to sustain pressure to just basically compete
Soft does not describe what these clowns are putting up
Disgraceful

Happy Meal had a good game you say, went 100% DE you say. Thats not 100% DE. How many goals he have kicked on him? He was playing on a VFL player. Sure he hasn’t been completely awful, but he is far from an AFL player

Was a shit kick that we are prone to.

What I want to know is why they are standing there. Not moving. Not screaming for the ball. Not leading laterally at place or running a tick lead back up at the kicker. Just...standing there. They wanted him to kick it long and they didn't want the footy. Sheezel puts his hands out in a token manner while taking a couple of half hearted steps backwards but only really gets separation that makes the kick worth it after the ball is already in the air.

"If he goes long here, I get a few extra seconds to catch my breath."

Lazy.

He didn’t even look at em. You need to scan the field when you hold the footy. Thats a cop out.

The only thing that creates this has to be coaches wanting a stoppage game. Thats the only reason for it. The players cant be that ******ed, can they?

Not excusing him. Just saying they did nothing and do nothing to catch the ball carrier's eye because they don't want it.

On that last point, they sure are, believe it or not. Clarko does not coach a bomb it long game plan. The man is in love with basketballing it laterally around the 50m arc so much that I disagree with it in some cases.

They are simply not committed mentally to delivering the ball well into the 50.

If you stand there with the footy.

You see them and call their ****in name when you kick it. Or you DEMAND in a big loud voice “****ing mooove”

The player with the ball has responsibility to demand the lead and Kick the ball to advantage.

Agreed. But it also goes both ways mate. As I said, it's not excusing him. It just illustrates that no one in our side is committed to delivering the ball intelligently into the 50.

LMac didn't want to scan the field. Sheez and whoever else on the flank didn't want to spread the field and didn't want the footy.

I wish it were just the blokes with the footy who were the problem.

THIS. I saw this from the outer behind oppo cheer squad yet Baily couldn’t ****in see it with the footy in his hands? He should be dropped from that alone

There were a heck of a lot of worse examples during the game than that one, IMO. At least, in that instance, we had practically a 5 to 1 representation at the drop of the ball. That created a very dangerous situation. I remember Jy doing a lot worse, kicking it straight to a defender.

Our kicks are always hurried. We are always under perceived pressure. Once that happens, turnovers inevitably follow. It’s a holistic problem. I think (hope) we have the players now. It’s a matter of our game plan gelling from here. However, I haven’t got the patience to wait at this stage.

McDonald generally makes two decisions.

1. Kick it as long and as far (mostly as high) as he can
2. If point 1 fails, kick it as long or as far as he can.

If he's within 80m of goal, he will always drive it long to 35m out to a pack of 10, without fail.

I forget when it was, but Dal Santo was telling a story on radio about him 3-4 years ago.

Hard to recall the exact wording of it now, but it essentially revolved around Luke genuinely thinking he was one of the best kicks in the comp.

Story was, Dal Santo was laughing at him, but Luke was genuinely serious.

EDIT: I just looked it up. "The biggest fan of Luke McDonalds kicking is Luke McDonald. He genuinely thinks he kicks it like Nathan Buckley, he believed he was the best kick at the football club"

This hubris comes out in his play, he thinks he roosts it 20m further than what he does, he thinks he's the best user at the club etc.

His footy IQ with the ball hasn't changed since junior footy. He thinks if he just simply bangs it in we are a good chance at a goal.

Its a confidence thing and a lack of skill thing. The lads are too use to losing and its mentally stuffed them. When you are winning and doing well the confidence is up and you want the ball to come to you. I doubt the skills are there to kick accurately kick to a player on his own like the 2 above video examples

That kick is easy to hit if he looks and they move. It's 100% mental application IMO.

I haven't read the thread yet, deliberately stayed away from Bigfooty and all footy media since leaving that debacle at 3/4 time. I don't want to comment on the game itself, as it's pretty obvious what most North supporters could say about it. But what has really pushed me over the edge was Clarko's press conference. FFS.

I was expecting some answers, some honest admissions and maybe even an apology. Coaches have to be mindful that they aren't just talking to annoying journos during those pressers. They are talking to the fans and members.

If Clarko came up with that rubbish during half time interview, I would have been ok with it, even though all the rubbish about Swans being more polished, us going too wide and allowing them to own the corridor is really ought to be on him. How the Fukk did he allow them to own the corridor? They had a very young team out there. And to be fair we did play with some endeavor in the first half and if not for a few mistakes and some rubbish umpiring could well have been in front.

But his presser was at the end of the game, not at half time. He completely failed to address the second half, and that wasn't about the corridor or polish. It was about us giving up, showing no effort and bringing disgrace to the jumper.

Now after that disgraceful performance and the shameful press conference I want to hear from the club. Maybe from the CEO who has been even less noticeable than our onfield improvement. Maybe from Sonja. Maybe from Todd Viney. But after Clarko failed to address that debacle, somebody damn well should.

More like this yeah? Its because we are a weak club and instead of giving a metaphorical back hander, we give cuddles. Its a joke

All the good sides move the ball quickly, so why does Clarko have this side chipping it around slowly in the back half?

The result is usually a turnover or if they do manage to get it forward the opposition has had an age to set up fill all the dangerous space.

It’s like we are trying to nut punch ourselves.

Two reasons.

1. We do not have speed coming off HB to challenge opposition defences. Been saying it for 16 years now, but we are living in the age of speed and agility and we are left behind.

2. We do not trust our players to win one on one matchups or split the contest to be able to turn it into a positive outcome. Again, on the ground, a lack of speed and agility to get to position, defend position and create havoc.
