Hartlett will not drop to 10
You had Stanton getting drafted last year as a bottom ager, but can't find a spot for him this year ?
He's a little raw, but very athletic with an AFL build and plenty of upside.
It will be interesting to see if he's drafted.
Good effort Foj1. Im hoping that Melbourne would take a ruckman at 51 though because our rucks are almost as bad as our forwards. Also 19 is probably a bit high for strauss, but he will be good and selected early.
I saw Luke play about 8 times this year and he has improved his kicking a little and is positioning himself a bit better on the footy field. However with GC coming in, I probably put a few more 17 year olds in the draft and reasoned that each club have 8 rookie selections which would be definately a go for him.
Hamish Hartlett could go as high as five for mine. I just think Mckernan, Ziebell, Trengove and Yarran have a bit more AFL candy to them- mind you being drafted at 10 would still be an outstanding achievement for anyone!
I expected more grief over the Mckernan selection and I thought Rockliff and Zaharakis being placed so low would ire the masses. Still its only early!
I guess the last thing to remember is when doing a phantom draft I try and predict what clubs will do not necessarily how I personally rate each footballer as my opinions even on the top ten vary quite significantly.
That's good work. foj1. I always read your stuff, because you obviously have seen a lot of U18 football (as distinct from just regurgitating everyone else's phantom draft).
From a Collingwood point of view, a best-fit policy would see us target clearance-winning mids. Good midfields can expose us at stoppages, and with Burns retiring and O'Bree ageing, we're pretty thin there. So, if they were available, I'd expect us to look very closely at the nuggety inside types like Sidebottom and Suban.
(Of course, who knows how the cards would fall if we followed a strict best-available strategy.)

Disagree about Strauss, 19 is about right for him and i agree with foj1. The guy just does everything right, he doesn't have many problems to his game and his kicking on both sides is one of the best in the draft IMO. Very under-rated around here, doesn't get enough credit for his talent, wouldn't surprise me in the slightest if he went top 20.
I've got no problem with Rockliff that low, infact, right now i have him going at the exact same position. Also agree with your assessment of him, very much have a few issues that could see him struggle at AFL.
Got two questions, one, for McKernan at 5, if you were making the choice for the Bombers in November, would you be doing the same thing? Or is it a pick that you see the Bombers recruiting staff selecting?
Two, Jordan Lisle at 27, have no doubt that the Roos would be very interested in Jordan but personally got him fairly high up at the moment, first round infact. What issues to do see with his game? or is it more you don't see his output at AFL level will warrant a higher selection?
Great read though foj1, definitely the best so far.![]()
There is a pretty big rumour going around that Collingwood are red hot for Blease which certainly influenced me- ironically the other club that is really linked to him is Brisbane so the pies might not get a chance at him anyway. I contemplated Suban for your second round selection but I really think Ashley Smith has a tonne of upside, serious speed and is a beautiful kick. The nuggety insiders are important but also quite abundant. For example Andrew Horne did a preseason at Collingwood a couple of years ago and has been very good in the VFL and Tom German was as good as anyone in that role last year in the TAC. I think the rookie list will be used for any players who have even a hint of vanilla in them as GC is really looming over the draft.
Hopefully the rumour is false as I am against taking an outside midfielder for Collingwood's first pick. Apparently Collingwood have been talking to Swift since the start of this year. (Source is a WCE supporter and poster on Bigfooty, I think 'Beatlesmith' but not sure.) He is a player who would suit us perfectly with that mixture of speed, skill and ability to play inside and outside.
Interesting to see who Collingwood take with their 2nd rounder, I was thinking DeBoer as we also lack a real ball winner and clearance machine, but we might end up taking a KPP with our second pick.
Fantastic job by the way Foj1, top class![]()
Can we swap our picks for these two just after us?
Very good effort, your knowledge on the youngsters cannot be questioned.
Strictly from an Essendon POV though, i'd be pretty disappointed with that draft. If we were looking for a more athletic tall at 5, then Trengove is by far the best option. And considering we've shown interest in him, i'd think that we would look at him before Mckernan.
Essendon have shown as much interest in Mckernan as they have Trengove.
