Hugh McCluggage averaging 22.75 over eight seasons.

If I was half a foot taller I've found a list of AFL footballers I wouldn't be out of place on. It's not the second.

Weight is not appropriate to discuss in AFL context.
Sorry guys but an infraction is coming up.
The severity of your punishment is directly related to your weight.
For every excess kilo an extra week is added to your posting on the Sack Kenny Port thread.

On using the Fitzroy music with the Brisbane Lions words...

Here is my a suggestion: After a win the song gets played multiple times. In Victoria, play the current song first and the new song second. Simple. If it catches on then play at the Gabba and elsewhere second or third time.

Re the state of origin afl concept.

I'm in the no thanks camp, and I'm sure it won't happen. Just a click bait.

Sure it can get bums in seats but we don't have a problems with spectator numbers across the league. We aren't league games getting 10k to games.

I do not want to risk player injury, or compromise a team missing finals because players were absent for state of origin duty and critical games were lost.

I'd only be keen if it was in lieu of pre season games, as in a player only plays one official pre season game.

I'd rather see international rules ahead of state of origin to be honest. Love that stuff. Zorko was so good last time it was on.

Clubs don't want State of Origin and that's why it was canned.
Also playing AFL preseason would have limited appeal to most players and fans.
No one is fit enough to give it a fair crack and fans want a proper contest not a hands-off type of game.
Then we have 2/3 byes during the season and just can't fit one game let alone multiple games into the season when players are at their best.
After the Grand final also does not work as half the players are on holidays and would lack fitness not playing for 4 weeks.
I don't think it has much of a chance of making a comeback.

In the NRL winning State of Origin is on a par or more important than winning a grand final.
Everything on those nights is like playing in a grand final.
The ratings are huge as can be seen below.

NRL only have two states really interested in NRL so a real rivalry.
Most AFL players would come from Victoria (with 10 teams) so a much bigger pool to find a very good team compared to other states with 2 teams.
No matter which way they look at players qualifications the Victoria team will have a greater pool of players.

Basically, it is easier for NRL to do SOO with 2 states over 3 games compared to AFL with 5 and possibly 6 in the future.

Always been a fanatical SOO fan. Grew a SA boy.

In the internationalised world of sport, AFL needs higher honours, or we will wither on the vine.

Kids get drafted al over the country. They deserve the right to play for their home state - just ask Brownie.

Have a weekend mid year -
WA vs SA
Qld vs NSW
Tassie vs NT.
Vic Country vs Vic City - start with that Friday night.

Every one that plays is rested in the 3 rounds after.

What a festival of footy.

Without knowing how it would work State of Origin is a fantastic concept that would be a benchmark of achievement for players and the games would be awesome.

Looking at the injury list at some clubs players have just as much chance of getting a debilitating injury at training as they do playing.

It won't happen in the foreseeable future because the AFL is already squeezing the lemon for every drop it can eke out. Plus clubs and supporters are over self indulged to the point of narcissism. But one day the penny will drop.

Every other code promotes their players for representative honours, but the AFL clubs know better than everyone? Will be the, eventual , death of us.

Well not death, just being irrelevant.

I can't think of a sport where elite level competition isn't the pinnacle.

Particularly team sports.
Rugbly League - SOO, and Tests.
Union - Wallabies, and an international game.
Cricket - what can I say.
Soccer - World Cup trumps the EPL. Let alone every international competition.

I rest my case. Any sport needs higher honours to be relevant.

We seem to be focused on growing the sport by expanding it via a lower base level where players of lesser quality get a crack due to the expansion of the number of teams and an extended number of games requiring a larger turnover of players at what is currently the highest level.

Our 'Grand Finale' is often not much of a game.

It's too hard for people glued to their one eyed team bias to get their heads around. And as far as clubs go you can forget it.

Maybe one day an administrator with some vision and a plan will at least get some discussion going.

I remember a a kid watching Kevin Murray run out as Captain of Victoria and then WA ( when it was State vs. State based ) and Fitzroy could hardly win a game , how that made me feel , and I can't help but think a proper SOO contest would draw more youngsters away from Soccer an other International sports which is where they now envision themselves if they have a dream.

Afl will never be relevant on the international stage so those comparisons are irrelevant.

The derby's are genuine rivalry and honours above the average home and away games. Even gc v lions has genuine intensity. Plus the blockbusters. Our Easter Thursday game has a special feel. I've always felt these games rival the SOO experience for fans of the clubs involved.

I'd be interested in comparing the ratings of these to SOO. I don't expect any one blockbuster would be equal, but there are more of them spread over the year .

I like the SA round with all the teams - that seems to have taken hold and added a higher fan experience. Look forward to it being in qld at some point.
