3 game, free with auskick or pet memberships.
If super fans from USA buy block to give away I bet they all count too?!

pet memberships havent counted for years.

yes, cause it is only non-afl fans who think AFL clubs memberships are a bit blurry.

you must not spend much time on this forum.

its only people who believe that headlines are everything and dont pay attention to details. Theres some in this conversation right now.

how many watched on fox? on streams? you dont know anything. Netball averages out to 26-28k on Nines main channel.

Don't be an obscurant if you know the numbers then post. Streaming numbers are next to nothing anyway. Fox wasn't bigger than usual.
You know TV - year on year FTA number a big drop.

Keep on dreaming Wanderbaby.

There will always be contact sport. There will be changes made to protect the players but it’s in our nature.
Any situation that makes litigation in contact sport so bad contact sport is banned ends soccer in its current form.

The possibility of head knocks being such an issue whole sports are banned ends heading, at all levels.

Soccer wouldn't ban itself in this situation, it would change.

As would all other sports.

So, put that hard on away, your premature, again.

Particularly if it we learn more about adverse effects of sub-concussion than soccer is in far more trouble than football.

Banning heading in soccer has pretty massive consequences

AFL should make a statue to Pippen, representing all soccer fans like him. The gift to the AFL that keeps on giving.

Used to frequent the soccer boards quite a bit, not so much now.

Pippen94s were all over them. They always bemused me. They talked about how, just signing the right broadcaster would unleash the Kraken. People would suddenly discover A league, fall in love, and the AFL would die (hoorah).

If the FFA just did the right publicity campaign, people would discover the A league, turn on in droves, and the AFL would finally die (hoorah).

All those 10s of millions of people playing soccer would one day realise we had a national league, and they would turn on in mass (perhaps next Tuesday), and AFL would die (hoorah).

There were a very small number of soccer posters putting up reality check posts, and boy, did they get hammered. Not drinking the Kool aid made you a hater apparently. I tried to stay out and just post on verifiable numbers to avoid "trolling".

So when they posted AFL average ratings were lower than NRL, soccer can catch them. I might point out AFL averages included broadcasts into 1 or 2 states only, which drops the average. Outrage, hate, gnashing of the teeth.

If someone posted participation numbers of Soccer and footy to show how popular soccer was, and no one played footy. I might point out, if you take out of the AFL figures those numbers you consider rubbery or padding, and take out the equivalent figures from soccer participation, the difference in participation basically disappears. Hate, loathing.

Pointing out, soccer campaigning on safe, easy simple, or whatever it was, attracted people not really into sport. They wanted little Johnny to play some sport and socialise, for his developmental well being. These people aren't avid sports fans, they're not sitting down on the weekend to watch a few A league games. Watching little Johnny stare at the grass in under 8s is the closest they will ever get to watching soccer.

Soccer is the most popular sport, look how many people watch EPL. Yes, but many of those people are AFL fans and NRL fans or RU fans. They watch EPL because it's the pinnacle. They already know A league exists, they just don't care.

Realising much of soccer's missteps over the years was due to the FFA and the A league believing these things, or being influenced by them was revelatory.

Pippen94s believes this s**t. The Pippen94s have ALWAYS believed this s**t.

They simple first step you MUST get right in going from here to there, is knowing where here is. Soccer has never known where here is.

The right add campaign, we will take over.
The right broadcast deal, we will take over.
Activate our massive participation base, we will take over.
Convince EPL fans to watch A league, we will take over.
Get the right grounds, we will take over.
Get pro/rel and a second div, we will take over.
Scrap the salary cap, we will take over.
Get the government to love us, we will take over.
When contact sport is banned, we will take over.

One comp, to rule them all, starting next season.

AFL would love to rule in Sydney. But there is no add campaign, media deal, tricky government deal that will do it.

Constant effort, for generations, is what it will take.

Something the A league is above, because it's the world game, and all contact sports will be banned, and AFL will die (hoorah).

What Pippen refuses to see. Hitting the head is banned in footy. It's the goal in soccer.

When in the extremely litigious US, sports like UFC cone under pressure, I will start wondering what more AFL can do.

But, on the basis liability is greatest where head knocks are an intended part of the sport. AFL is well down the list, and after soccer imop.

Yes, I'm familiar with those soccer boards.
The funnier moments came when attendances dropped consistently over the course of 6 or 7 yerars and you'd hear hilarious excuses: it's too hot, too cold, too wet, too dry, too early, too late, there's a carnival on down the road, there's an exhibition on, the scanners aren't working, etc, etc

This is Part 2 of the very lengthy & detailed 3-Part Series on "The Development Of Women's Footy In Qld".

Female AF is a phenomenon in Qld. Until 2017, Qld. had more regd. females than Vic., &, in 2021, Qld. is only second to Vic. in having the most regd. females in Aust. 42% of all AF participants in Qld. are female- the highest % in Aust.

K. Fenwick & G. Bastiani have done an excellent job, but Warning- this is a very long (but worthy) read.

For Part 1, see my post#368, 18.11.20

1. AFLQ CEO T. Squires announced that the no. of registered AF club players & club Auskickers on the Gold Coast, by 22.3.21, has risen by 15%, cf. the covid-interrupted 2020 season final figure.

2. A comprehensive, but succinct, history from 2016 of the impressive growth of GR female regd. nos. all over Australia, & statistics on the AFLW, are provided by the innersanctum.com article.

Full details of both in this link below

3. Furthermore, this superb hanger (& other sublime skills of some AFLW players) by Richmond's Ellie McKenzie, taken on 26.3.21, is helping to drive the success of the AFLW- & is an inspiration for many aspiring female footballers.

Then click on post#1, in red writing -this is best, enlarged vision of the hanger.

I like the big grins on two of her Richmond team mates when she took the mark!

Daily Telegraph J. Bednall 23.3.21

The NRL states that Brisbane 2, if it becomes the 17th NRL team c. 2025 (as seems likely), its creation would be worth c. $50m (probably pa, & not dependant on an 18th team)- based on extra, non-detailed "broadcasting, fan & commercial worth".

NRL CEO A. Abdo has indicated that, if Brisbane 2 is created, then it is possible or probable that NZ2 (not Perth) would be later created.

Furthermore, Nine's former CEO D. Gyngel said, in 2013, that if Brisbane 2 was created about that time, Nine would be willing to pay an extra $100m, over 5 years (ie $20m pa) for it.

If the NRL can expand to 17 or 18 teams, & the NRL continues without any significant dilution of skills, it will enhance its financial strength, ratings, & crowds- & be better able to withstand AFL & GR AF advances in NSW, Qld, & ACT.

To be fair, maybe our favourite troll Pip shared the view of 'The Australian' who obviously found it incredible that a NSW boxer wasn't familiar with Dusty Martin - which tells me that Dusty must be pretty much a household name in NSW in order to make this news worthy.

And Pip seems to have somehow missed this article, about the need for more Australian Football playing ovals across NSW due to the explosion in NSW participation numbers and a resulting ground shortage -

AFL BOSS ON NSW MISSION

The AFL continues to march into rugby league heartland in Sydney.

AFL boss Gill McLachlan was in town last week for talks with Premier Gladys Berejiklian and government ministers. Topping his wish list is more ovals across NSW with four posts instead of two. Participation numbers — especially among women — are taking off.

“We got a terrific reception — the Premier was great,” McLachlan said, “The agenda for us is community facilities in Sydney. It a huge issue. We have outgrown the space. There are not enough ovals for us. We’ve actually got a waiting list for clubs and players...”

1. Professor Knowall- paywall.
Are you able to produce the full Daily Telegraph article on BF?

2. "Earlier last week NSW/ACT hosted an event at NSW Parliament House to launch the Parliamentary Friends Of The AFL. More than 50 people attended the event, including the NSW Premier, G. Berejiklian, Opposition Leader J. McKay, Friends Of AFL Chairs M. Coure MP, S. Bali MP, & around 20 other MP's".

A momentous & historic occasion for AF.

There is now almost a crisis in Sydney for the AFL & GR AF, as the GR boom is continuing in 2021, due to the shortage of ovals for training & matches.
My understanding is that many AF clubs are being forced to turn away potential players, because the clubs are simply "too full".

We shall see from these two momentous developments (inc. the link above, from Professor Knowall, where Mc Lachlan has made formal complaints to Berejiklian re the GR facilities' problems) if the discrimination against AF in NSW, that has existed since 1888, will continue.

3. "Our U11's side is becoming 2 teams due to the number of regd. players". 24.3.21

"The Cats U12 side has so many girls regd. we have decided to split this into 2 teams...". 23.3.21

(Scroll down to tweets 24.3 & 23.3 respectively)

Afl trying to influence politicians what's new?! Blacktown still has a ground nobody plays at due to past engagement.

If you know Sydney almost every suburb has an oval. Where do you think Cricket teams play at?!
