Sure he was doing some stupid things in the 4th quarter but go back and watch the match winning burst in the 3rd.

Sure he can be frustrating but you take the good with the bad.

(Will admit he looks at his best when he brings players in around him)

Yeah He did well.. Just some little stuff ups in junk time.. He will be massive the next two games..

He had in interesting chat with MRobbo on twitter last night about being on the WEst Gate long enough last night to through his boots over the edge. haha

Hes one of those players that it only takes him to be off 1% and thats the difference in him having a good and a bad night.

You have to take the good with the bad from Johnno, but he was certainly up and about which is a good thing!

Prolly had a mindset before the game how he was going to tackle the wet weather conditions, thats all.

Didn't quite work for him by his lofty standards. Still, close to votes, and would have been Hawthorn's best by a good margin.

He will be better for it.

Yeah, very strange last quarter. I don't think he will be thrilled with it. The torpedo was just a moment of madness. Still, as you point out, that patch in the third was key to us hitting the front. I think one of the problems is all those passages required something kind of flukey/tricky to work (kick over the top to a running pods, handball over the shoulder, kick off the ground). That stuff he does well. But when it comes to the basics - a handball to the loose playing running past - he seems to stuff it up too often.

As you say, however, you take the good with the bad. There were a few Hawthorn supporters last night around me saying Stevie was a downhill skier. While I don't agree, unfortunately the games I remember him playing well in recently are those where we beat up on sides. With Menzel going down he has an increased responsibility. I hope he can handle it.

and the 2-3 missed shots from 30-40...basics that should be nailed.

the sublime of the goal off the ground v. trying to outsmart his opponent, getting tackled and kicking it out on the full. i dont think he realises that good teams have an idea of what he can do and corral him.

yer right kanye, there was another time when he should have handballed to varcoe but hung onto it too long and when he did eventually handball varcoe got crushed by 2 defenders.

you do take the good with the bad, but very frustrating.

dont the hawks fans usually call him stevie "junk time" johnson

last night he was just stevie "junk" johnson

he really was terrible most of the night, he really needs to pull his head in and stop trying to do stupid shit like taking fresh air shots on the boundary line

Lets look at what he did. He wasted ball but he was in play a heap and got into space kept the ball in the forwardline by marking it. Far more important to my mind.

Anyway whats he carrying? Something is not quite right. He had a left thigh wrapped then late the wrapping was gone so was it restricting him?

I still think Steves hip/ankles/ groin prevent him form kicking with the distance he once had . He kicks it better around the corner better but rarely these days does he get 50 M with a straight drop punt.

Wrong. Varcoe was slow to find space and SJ probably waited too long for Varcoe to go by. If Varcoe had taken off straight away, it would have been an easy goal.

I noticed SJ drew both men and got Varcoe free but his handball was a loopy one which gave time for the Hawthorn cover.

Johnson's handball to Christensen underrated, did it brilliantly.

Spot on. This was a piece of magic.

Sure he did some STUPID things, but the people bagging him out need to step back a bit. It wasn't his worst game ever. 09 Granny????

I actually though he was a big part of our win. Did quite a few good things. Definitely not his best game, but the abuse is a little over the top!

Johnson is a much better player under Scott, than the final two years of Thompson.

He is contributing even when not kicking goals.

I think you should watch the game again!!!

Had a few more then usual "SJ moments" but was a solid performer overall.

Missed several shots you'd normally expect him to nail, so 27 possies and four goals as it could/should have been would have been a pretty handy return.

I must be in the minority.
I thought he was super. Why do teams allow him to get so much of the ball?

Thought his barrel in the last 1/4 was dumb though.

which time? in the middle of the first or near the end of the first?

if varcoe took off in the first occasion he would have been in the goal square checking the lenght of the grass before sj had decided what the most difficult option to choose was going to be.

I must be in the minority.
I thought he was super.

have you seen the first half yet?
