I’d be ok with something like that. Ideally I wouldn’t have Mitch but let’s face it, he’s a lock. Looks decently balanced imo. Middle order looks slightly less susceptible to collapse with Finch there rather than Travis ‘lead boots, hard hands, slashing at everything outside off’ Head and Paine separating the Darsh brothers.
Lets just cancel Test cricket until we can find 6 guys that can bat. Like 3 years time.

This will be our first ever series lost at home against India, right?

That will do more damage to Australian cricket than anything Smith did.

Rubbish. There's so much cricket played now that if we lose a series against India it'll be forgotten in 2 years. No one who loves cricket will ever forget what happened in Cape Town.

Khawaja better be fit or else we are completely stuffed.

My XI at this stage:
Finch
Renshaw
Khawaja
S Marsh
Burns
M Marsh
Paine
Cummins
Starc
Lyon
Hazlewood

I like Burns in the middle order and as much as I didn't want to say Mitch Marsh there really weren't any other options.

No, our first ever Test series loss to India on home soil will be painful. I love that we have that over them. Losing the Ashes is more palatable to me.

A few scores recently. 64, 49 and 80*.

Got a shocking decision though first innings of this match, standard of the umpiring really needs to lift or else it just ruins players test chances.

Doesn’t seem like he’s smashing the door down then. Should be making hundreds

Rubbish, that’ll be forgotten in 12 months.

Losing a test series against India, at home, for the first time ever, is something we can never get bck.

This series will come down to our batsmen vs their bowlers. And I will back their bowlers to get 20 wickets over the consistency of our batsmen to make enough runs to win a test

Finch
Doolan
Khawaja
Burns
S.Marsh
M.Marsh
Paine
Cummins
Starc
Lyon
Hazlewood

Alex Doolan is a no brainer for mine with all other openers being in average form at best. he's experienced and is in good form and has made runs against every team, everywhere, so far this season. deserves a 2nd chance at test level. same for Joe Burns, i'd bat him at 4, could be the making of him.
id be keeping a close eye on Hazlewood and Starcs form as well. both haven't been bowling that well imo and need to step it up in the tests from the get go this summer. wouldn't mind seeing Pattinson get back into the mix as well to give a spell or keep the pressure on those 2 guys if they show signs of form dropping off.

What about Doolan? Currently leading the SS runs this season. Has been around the Australian test team before, 4 tests all against SA. FC career is pretty good. 5700 runs at 35. Could bat at 5? Is 80 odd no atm.

No thanks. Has be tried and failed before

Fully aware Maxwell won’t be picked, and it’s a disgrace he’s had no chance to press his case by playing in meaningless matches of lesser formats, however, I do not want Mitch Marsh in the side. He’s a dud.

Don’t think Finch should open in Australia so would put him in the middle order instead. I’d give Renshaw another crack at it and I’d pick Doolan on form. SMarsh picked on form, Paine selected purely because he’s captain and the bowlers pick themselves.

Fun fact
Pattinson’s test batting average of 27 is better than Marsh’s

All these guys were average in their first stints in the team, and went on to get second chances.

It's also worth noting that of the team that Ponting led to 16 wins in a row, the batting order for most of those games included Langer, Hayden, Ponting, Clarke, Hussey and Watson. Hussey - who didn't debut in the test team til he was 30 - was the only one of those players to not be dropped after their first stint.

I'm not even advocating for Doolan. If you weren't looking at the list of top run scorers so far this Shield season I doubt you'd even think of him. But suggesting a guy who got 5 minutes in the team against a formidable line up away from home should never get another chance is just crap.
