I'm pretty over the 'web defense failed on the MCG' (or that it doesn't work against the hawks) nonsense. The issue in the GF was our midfield (the bane of our team for almost 10 years now), not the game plan. Our midfield was awful, poor decision making, poor disposal, and poor pressure. Any zoning defense (which every team uses in some form or another) fails if the players up the ground fail. In fact, any defense fails if you're midfield fails, really. We panicked, we couldn't deal with the pressure, and we paid the price. Then game plan (which is really just team defense and zoning) is fine. It works. But until out midfield take that next step, we'll fail again. Whether they can, remains to be seen.

A bit overplayed in reality.

Our record against Brisbane 2001-2004 is 4-2 which is better than anyone else at the time but they did beat us. 2003 was the only one of their premiership years that they didn't beat us, but beat them in 2002 then in every game from 2003-2006.

Brisbane would have probably won approx 75% of their games over that span. We were nothing better than mid-table, yet somehow we managed to win four out of six, including a few away from home.

We were definitely a bogey-side for them in terms of winning record vs presumed winning records. I am pretty sure there are teams that went 5 years without beating Brisbane at some point.

Not just that, but a few of those games were decent beltings as well. Brisbane had won 20 straight and we rolled them by 46 points in 2002, and then in 2003 we won by 69 points after having won 10 of our last 20 (they had only lost three of their last 20)

Yes in a few years the dogs will likely be ahead of us if last year is anything to go by.

Although the same was said of Port 2 years ago - interesting to see how that plays out as well.

I think Jack is one of the most underrated players in the comp.
He cops a bad wrap for his immaturity at times, and being a Richmond player you're destined to fail.

Based on the last 2 years performance which is was CD do with their ratings - Roughead, Franklin, Jack and Kennedy are top 4.

If I could pick just 1, I'd pick Jack, closely followed up by JK.
Hang on, Jack Reiwoldt? If you could pick one forward you'd pick Reiwoldt??

We got smashed in contested ball and clearances ....the web defence didn't work because Hawks won so much easy ball ....This meant space

One action leads to another .....the web defence can work on the MCG but you must win the contested ball count and put pressure on them all over the ground

Compared to our heroic captain who missed from, what was it, 35 out dead in front? **** me dead.
Deer in headlights.

Flowed down from him to rest of squad, Gaff excluded.

Be safe to say that Bunga & the lads have fire burning after that.

Just finnished a 20ounce bong?
Doesn't help when good bloke Hodgey pulls out a bullshit goal at a crucial point either
Really sucked the wind out of our sails. Each time we got some good shit happening, there was a BIG stuff up that ruined our run. Without the nerves, MAYBE the boys could have made a game of it and actually won.

Thats exactly what I meant DTF.. thanks for enunciating it correctly. tbh we were thereabouts for most of the day in terms of margin, and we played the worst game of 2015 on that day. Imagine if we played well...

First quater set up the game. Dominance of quite a few important stats, they kick goals, we kick points. Catch up footy.:(

Sorry but not to derail the thread entirely but we flogged the hawks two weeks prior to the GF (yes on our own ground) so the only excuse for the terrible GF performance is nerves/mental preparation. As others have said, it's like they thought they didn't deserve to be there so reverted playing under 10's timid defensive footy rather than owning the game *

*My recollections of the game may not be accurate as I threw a brick through my TV at the start of the second qtr.

I think Clarko learned a hellova lot during that loss actually. He's like the bloody Borg. Adapts as soon as he needs to.
Yes, we were shit, and nerves had a lot to do with it still.

If there was ever going to be a Borg King. Clarko would be it.
