The atmosphere in the Wawrinka match is great. Even though he is player a Frenchie he is getting all the support. Very vocal crowd.

Schmieds lost the first set 6-3. Forehand is breaking down. Reckon half the winners from both players have been drop shots. both are struggling to hit past their opponent.

Only watched the first set and thought Thiem was doing what the best players do. win despite playing poorly. 6-1 in the last tells me he warmed up.

Schmieds 3-4 atm...after about 45 mins. has come back from 4-0 down.

Some very very very good hitting from both players at the second and third set but Thiem wins the big and important points.

Credit to Podroska. Has played a tidy match with few errors. Has really targeted the weaknesses of Schmieds especially the serve. Schmieds was far from her best. Did take a medical time out in the first set but i doubt that hard any meaning. when you are serving an average of 50MPH on your 2nd serve, it is asking for smash back. Pod did her homework moved Schmieds around, including the net with drop shots and got the forehand to really break down.

Halep is winning this. not sure how someone will beat her on this surface. (well, maybe Ostapenko doing Ostapenko things)

Thiem got a huge break with Stan losing to a local no-hoper. Makes the 4th round a good rest before 3 tough games, if he is to make the final. good on Gaston though. Didn't see it but locals doing well in a tournament will give this event the atmosphere it deserves and its a good story. The 1/4s look good for both Nadal and Thiem with 2 tough opponents. Think that as important as it is to win easy, you do want to be tested somewhere before you play each other.

In the girls, I kinda would love to see Kiki win it, just to get a comment of Sara Errani afterwards. it won't happen cause Halep. None of 2020 US Open women' singles quarterfinalists has reached 4th round at 2020 Roland Garros. The last to fall was Mertens and Pironkova last night. Azarenka got beaten by Schmieds. Only Kenin(who has looked iffy), Kvitova and Martic made the 4th round. (US men 1/4 finals still in the draw, Thiem, Zverev, Busta and Rublev)

Could be some good womens matches outside the CC. Think Kvitova might struggle outside in the cold damp clay. Likewise Sabalenka. Not sure why Berrettini is on CC. The tournament needs Tsitsipas to do well.

You would be pretty disappointed if you had centre court tickets with the whole line up really. Organisers probably worried RBA v Busta would go for way too long but surely that is the pick of the matches tonight. You'd also prefer to see the Kvitova or Mug matches over Kenin as well. Not much you can do about the French girl on centre court I suppose but it blows for the neutrals.

it really is a weird one. Mug, after all, is a former champ playing a future star. And there is another french player on the 3rd court.

as for the mens, it kinda shows the lack of a 2nd big name on this side. I would have had Anderson, as he has made slam finals, v Rublev, he is a good player.

I was looking forward to some of the girls matches, but the FFT has made it hard to watch. One of those nights were i will have it on but I probably will be doing other things.
