Danger had a better season this year than dusty he was just robbed by the afl. Once danger got suspended then people got on dustys bandwagon. If youre gonna be fair dinkum youd have got fyfe 15 v danger 16 and danger 17. In which case you can't go wrong with danger in either year and then fyfe. Dusty did have a fantastic year though no doubt about it.

All 3 great players, IMO the thing that Dusty has over the other 2 is his elite disposal by foot, Fyfe and Dangerfield can both butcher the ball in general play on occasion and also their set shots can be iffy.

With the 3 of them playing at their absolute best I'd go with- Dustin Martin > Nathan Fyfe > Patrick Dangerfield.
The other thing about Martin is he is the consummate team player. He always gives the ball to a teammate in a better position, without hesitation. Danger in particular is more of a virtuoso.

The way I see it:
Martin: Had the best individual year out of the 3 years of the players in the poll.
Fyfe: Had the best period within a year (he was pretty insanely good before he got injured)
Dangerfield: Has performed the best of the 3 over the last years and also was not far off Martin in 2017.

Paddy and Dusty-This years stats .
Guess which ones which?
The stats dont replace game footage. Dusty breaks a lot more tackles than Danger and is a far better kick.
Danger is a far better overhead mark and is faster in a straight line.

Thats their main differences.

Fyfe played the best footy of the three by a fair margin in my opinion. His form pre-injury was legitimately absurd.
Lead the league in contested marks while playing as a midfielder.

****ing insane

Martin's amazing finals series has to be respected. I will give him the prize, if you are going to be hitting form that is when you want it. Lifted himself up to and then above the other two with a dominant last month.

As far as the season entire Dangerfield 2016 carried us like only early Gold Coast Ablett could. Every game he shouldered us to wins. Martin and Fyfe were not so consistantly at top shelf form as him in there brownlow seasons. Dangerfields 2016 as a whole was the best year of the three.

Fyfe does not leave without a pat on the back from me though as I think his best form that year is up there with peak Ablett jnr and Judd, a level above both Martin and Danger. I hope we havent seen the last of it.

It's easy to forget how good Fyfes 2015 season was but he never carried his team to a premiership like Martin did.

Martin > Fyfe >> Dangerfield

Would be scary if dusty had big sandi knocking it down his throat like fyfe did 2015

I'd rather Dustys extra 6 elite kicking disposals a game than Dangers 6 cheap handballs

Dustys 2017 from round 1 to GF (Brownlow, Norm Smith and Premiership) 》》》 Dangers 2016 or 2017

FWIW

For me personally, love Fyfe when he is firing. Fyfe is the absolute best all rounder, reminds me of the 2000/2001 season Kouta had where he was untouchable, Fyfe and Kouta weren't just midfielders they were the ultimate players who could play the ultimate game

Martin must be a butcher by hand then, as his disposal effiency for the season was 63.7%

Fyfe was playing some insanely good football in 2015, so I would go Fyfe --> Martin --> Danger.

Theres not much between the 3 - FWIW I think danger had a better season this year than he did in 2016.

Martin and danger hit the scoreboard a fair bit more than Fyfe did in 2015.

Martin 37 goal and 29 goal assists, Danger 45 and 20. Fyfe in 2015 kicked 17 goals and had 10 assists.

Martin breaks more tackles, Fyfe and danger get more contested possessions, Fyfe is a weapon in the air, danger not far behind, martin incredibly strong 1 out. Martins kicking is a fair bit better than Danger and Fyfe. before you start pulling out rubbish disposal efficiency, watch the games and you can clearly see who has the better kicking skills and who goes for the tougher line breaking kicks.

Like I said earlier this thread, you couldnt go wrong with any of them - but some of the comments claiming one is a fair way ahead of the rest are a bit of an exaggeration.

I think danger has played at a consistently high enough level now to be lumped in with GAJ and Judd at their best, amazing player, Fyfe and Martin need another season or two of elite performances and they'll be there too.

Watch a game. Please.

Dustys kicking is so far and away better than the other two youd have to be blind not to see it. Elite skills both sides of his body.

Disposal efficiency is such a stupid stat, belting it 50 metres down the line is "effective" lol dusty goes for tougher more aggressive kicks much more often than the other two

The emoji obviously didn't reflect my connotation :frown:

It is interesting that players can have similar metres gained (especially Danger who kicks less than Martin) and similar disposal efficiency, yet if you watched both on telly, you would agree Martin looks a better kick.

I think the similar metres gained is the outcome of danger kicking the ball long almost every time he kicks where as dusty is more likely to kick more sideways if its the better option.

Feel as though danger is a very straight line north-south player whereas dusty is more 360 degree player

Fyfe and Danger are a little bit better in everything then Dusty, both better all round footballers except for the one thing, and its a very important thing. They are poor kicks and Martin is not. If either Danger or Fyfe were at least an average kick, the poll would be over and they would stand above. They are not and so here we debate.

I think it's cool (and quite un-BigFooty-like) that people haven't forgotten how good Fyfe in full flight is.

Dusty's overhead marking isn't on terms with these two freaks but his kicking is probably a level above.

Interesting poll, no real wrong answer.

It's really impossible to tell who is better, unless you give them all a season or two in each other's teams. It is a team game, and you have to fit into a team structure.
Having said that, these 3 are clearly the top 3 mids going around (allowing for Fyfe's injuries), and probably only Buddy is near their level for overall effectiveness.
I went to a Richmond Adelaide game a few years ago and saw Danger live for the first time - Richmond won easily, but Dangerfield was clearly the most exciting, and influential player on the ground when he got the ball. Similarly, Martin and Fyfe at their best. They are so far above the stat-gatherers who often record more possessions, that I tend to ignore arguments that involve stats - it's how you win the ball, and what you do with it. And these 3 do it better and more often than anyone else.

Put a gun to my head - which one at their best? Maybe Fyfe. Then ask me tomorrow, and I might feel different.

Fyfe, just.

Dangerfield has been at this level for longer than Martin, but I do admit I think Martin is clearly better than Dangerfield due to his kicking and temperament (Danger kicked OOTF multiple times in the last quarter of a final against us, while Dusty stayed cool).

Fyfe needs to regain his form, otherwise he will be remembered in the same vein as Koutafidis.

By that logic Fyfes 2014 would have to come into play and then the answer is without doubt Fyfe!

Is that how its done?
