Re: Odds & Ends

Ed Reed is hugely over rated and didn't deserve the defensive MVP award. Reed makes a ton of big plays but he gave up a ton of big plays too and was not a deserving MVP candidate compared to someone like Pittsburgh's James Farrior. Teams attacked the hell out of Reed because he was prone to big mistakes. A game against Cincinnati late in the year comes to mind where Carson Palmer torched the Ravens secondary for 24 pts in the 4th quarter. Reed conceded the second-most deep pass completions and the fourth-most medium pass completions in the whole league. He is a player that will appear often on highlight reels but is not as valuable as ESPN would have you believe.

Season 2006 Futures Sportingbet

Was looking on Sportingbet the other day and they have some interesting lines for total games won during the season by each team.

I dont have access to them at the moment but I think a few were:

Miami Under/Over 9 wins

Denver Under/Over 10 wins

Arizona Under/Over 8 wins

St Louis Under/Over 7 wins

...etc

yeah mate. went through all the games and tipped them. will be interesting to see if I'm remotely close

Doubt it

Miami will push for division, Vikes also
Indy wont dominate like that! Neither Pats
Jax are better than 5-11

Why didnt you put them in standing order, looks better, easier to read?

Cuz im a tool. I just made up standings then decided to work out each game and missed re-ordering those ones.

Vikings dont have a defence, no running game, and no passing game but yeah they could push ;)

Re: Season 2006 Futures Sportingbet

Interesting you've only got the Bears at 8-8.

I'd have thought a team that went 13-3, swept its division 5-1 and earned a home playoff game while starting a rookie QB, that's had a remarkably stable off-season, with all of its starters returning, added a few key ingredients (Griese for backup QB, Manning Jr for nickelback, Hester and Manning for return game), is playing in the weakest division in the NFL (3 head coaches and major personnel changes), has the weakest schedule in the NFL, a dominant defence, a top notch running game and the NFL coach and defensive player of the year would be better than 8-8.

The Packers have regressed, Farve is a year older and losing Walker and Flanagan will just mean the slide is accelerated. The Lions are...the Lions. Plus I fear everyone is buying into the hype of the Vikings again, remember about this time last year? Weren't they supposed to win the Superbowl? I'm sorry, but replacing Culpepper and Moss in two seasons with a 36 year-old Brad Johnson and a Nate Burleson/Troy Williamson combination (though all good players), doesn't equate to one of the most dangerous passer/receiver combos in NFL history.

But I guess we'll see who is right, but I personally don't see the Bears losing anywhere near that number of games.

burleson is no longer in minnesota either, he headed off to the seahawks, sort of a payback for the vikes getting hutchison. Therefore it will be two of williamson, koren robinson and travis taylor who are the starters for the vikings. I dont think many people are building up the vikes this year either, it is clear they will probably struggle.

Concerning the Bears, i think they will win the division, but will not go 13-3 again, i think 11-5 or 10-6 is more around the mark, the packers will not be that bad, the addition of woodson helps and the loss of walker hardly makes a difference as they didnt have him all of last season due to injury. They will be second with perhaps a 7-9 season, but will try to do well in favre's last season. The Vikes will go 6-10 and the lions 5-11 IMO.

This division is quite pathetic and i think the bears will make it to the playoffs and not much further, they will not make it anywhere near the NFC Conference game.

Yeah thats all well and good. So Phili will come last at 8-8... not only is that just stupid but I dont even know if its possible.

A lot of wins there and not many lossses, nice work.

Its hard to forecast the Bears better than 8-8 (or give them more wins considering I went game by game)... as they lack the offensive power to beat teams if they sneak a few scores past the awesome defense.

Defense wins games yes... but they really have NOTHING going on offense and thats cause for concern. I really dont see them doing much better than that. You've got to consider that they were VERY lucky to win a lot of close games last year... they got everything out of that team and I dont really think that have improved any.

Who knows, someone might win that division with 6-10 or something. jokes. But I have little doubt someone will come through.

I honestly hate to to admit it but I could see the Packers being the team. Favre is reckless but he isnt gun shy...so they will take their chances... Green is back with the rest of the RB cast... and they can really eat up the field. They have got the lineback group together.. secondary still a cause for concern but are Minnesota or Chicago really going to burn them there? unlikely. Could be interesting... in a boring crappy teams way..

Yet highly unlikely..

Its just a stupid statement that doesnt add up

isnt really logical... there has to be one sub .500 team in there if teams are getting 12, 11, and 10 wins.... and there will be.

ie...

AFC North
Cin 11-5
Pitts 11-5
Bal 6-10
Cle 6-10

AFC South
Ind 14-2
Jax 12-4
Ten 4-12
Hou 2-14

AFC West
Den 13-3
KC 10-6
SD 9-7
Oak 4-12

Found myself a good bet on the weekend, Baltimore at 2.25 for the in over Tampa and won myself a nice $112.50 out of it.
Anyway just having a look at some odds now that look tasty.

New York to beat Philly is paying $2.20.
Baltimore to win the whole thing is paying $26.00.

Think i might have a little wager on both.
