Sorry if this has already been made as a poll but i couldn't find it anywhere.

Not who's having the better season, but who is the better player?
IMO Ablett is still comfortably the better player.

swan is a gun player, top 20 in the afl, but ablett is a champion, an all time great

no contest

wow great thread
a carlton supporter trying to degrade a collingwood star

theres no way you can say swan is the better player though he is having a better year.

maybe at the end of their careers we can judge.

but they're both better then Judd IMHO
But Hodge is better then all.

Ablett hands down, more all round player and has been consistantly doing it for longer. Plus is Jesus.

I dont know if he has consistantly been doing it longer than Swan, i mean Abletts breakout year was 2007, the same year Swan polled 20 brownlow votes , since then they both have had 3 very good years

Swan more of a power runner over a space of minutes, as are most of the Collingwood midfielders. Ablett stays on for longer.

I love Swanny, but Ablett has the amazing ability to slot goals from almost anywhere. Set shots, on the run, it doesn't matter - he just kicks them. As good as Swan is, he just can't do that on a consistent basis.

Ablett that game he played alone last night sets him apart from every other midfielder in the comp.

He had 11 disposals playing midfield up to half time Thompson realized he was down for whatever reason and put him up forward for the second half where he got 10 possessions and booted 4 goals. He is easily the best midfielder dare I say it player in the game and has been for a few years now.

Before I start, I would like to say I would vote for Ablett, so I agree Ablett is a better player than Swan.

But this is not the greatest argument.
First of all, Ablett was being shut-down by Carrazzo, hence the move forward, it wasn't for "whatever reason".
He then booted 4 goals on Carrazzo, and I agree with everyone saying he is a fantastic kick for goal, but Carrazzo is hardly a great defender 1-on-1 in an aerial situation.
Ablett has the ability to kick bags of goals, but I don't think on last night's efforts you could tout him as the best midfielder. So I ask you, is he the best small forward in the game? Or the best midfielder in the game?

I think it's his ability to be great at both that sets him apart from Swan.
In summation - Ablett: #1 small forward, #2 Midfielder.
Swan: #1 Midfielder

Cool beans.

Ablett's been the best midfielder in the comp the last 4 years. The reason he hasn't been as dominant in the middle this year is because he's spent a fair chunk of the season up forward. You can't tell me Swan this year has taken over from Ablett as the no.1 midfielder because he's had 1 season of elite footy.

Swans had 2 years of elite footy in a row. He absolutely smashed carazzo fwiw. Ablett didnt and his junk time goals mean zilch.

Will be interesting to see how Gaz goes at the Gold Coast...Doubt he'll be anything like he is now.

You couldn't seriously pick Swan over Ablett, however Swan has had the better season.

Ablett was towelled up by Carrazzo last week. Just goes to show that you can't judge him until he starts getting a tag.

Only got into the game when he went into the forward line. Carlton didn't put a defender on him, and he kicked a few goals on a midfield player in Carrazzo.

Im guessing your stating this is the first time Ablett has had a tagger on him?
It was a great move to move Ablett to the FWD line it left Carrazzo as a bad match up. See no issues with it.

One of the few times he's had a real tag.

There's no issue with it at all. Poor coaching from Carlton perhaps, but nothing else.
